Am I missing something here...

We allegedly had a kitty of circa £10million for this summer......we get £5million for Hughes et al........a possible £10 million for the sale of bentley, the trust have announced a further £3million. Even taking into account the new management structure, surely that would provide at least £20million for a transfer kitty.

We are unlikely to spend more than £2-3 million on a right back and the likes of Aimar (or a quality midfielder) are available for £7-8million.....so

A) How the hell does that take the pressure off selling Roque?

B) Why can't we afford a decent replacement for Bentley

Things just don't add up

I see nothing wrong with the sums here:

£10,000,000.00 - Original Transfer Kitty

£10,000,000.00 - Bentley Profit

£5,000,000.00 - Hughes Compensation

£3,000,000.00 - Trust Funds

£28,000,000.00 - Total

Is anyone able to correct the Wizzard?

Obviously we wouldn't blow it all but i'd hope to see a good £20 million spent on enfourcements and replacing bentley.

Nicko, can you confirm the £3 million from the trust?

It's always better to have money available to spend...and then spend it when you have to.

A new manager may see the obvious problems that need fixing, but he also needs a fund for running repairs.

I would be pretty content if you got a specialist right back and a goalscoring midfielder to start with.

AND have money in the bank.

Not if it means putting emerton on the right wing because he never stays there, always cuts inside, can't shoot to save his life, except he seems to score for australia. Money in the bank is only useful if there are players to buy who are better than what you've got or you need to provide cover for an injury etc.

Interesting it may be at Rovers from your point of view as a journalist but unless there are some pretty big rabbits coming out of hats it's going to be a depressing time to be a fan.

Exactly.

Funny how we have all become fans of seeing David Bentley in a Rovers shirt again.

Personally I never stopped wanting to see him in a rovers shirt. I accepted we probably wouldn't but I've never been one of the sell him brigade

Darren Bent? Aaron Lennon?

Why are people obsessed with these two, they're rubbish. spurs want shot of them, yes, that's S-P-U-R-S. We don't want their old toot.

As for Bert on the wing again, please someone tell me it's a bad dream. It'd only work if Ince ran down the touchline with a rope attached round Bert's waist to stop him drifting away.

People slating Bert - Before Bentley made the RM position his own didnt Emerton have the highest number of assists in the league? As pointed out - If we can bring in a solid Right Back and some creativity in the Centre Mid area we will have improved the side.

He's the only player who ever gets my normally mild mannered husband screaming abuse. he is so frustrating out there. And don't forget that before we moved him to right back there were loads of people saying they'd drive him to any club that wanted him just to be rid.

Nicko, any news on the following rumoured transfers:

- Ricardo Osario

- Steve Davis (not the former snooker champion, aka, the nugget!)

Osario was new when it appeared in the Sunday People at the weekend. Just been followed up since. I think he will be watched,

Davis looks to me like a wind-up to get Rangers to pay more money.

Sebastian Larsson

I could not agree more, a very talented up and coming player. I would guess Arsenal will have a sell on clause there as well.

The 'trialist' name I heard is a very compliacated one - I thought this player was a free agent but it turns out he might not be.

It's not that Ashley-Paul Robinson is it? What a moron he is!

isnt ooijer good enough? what will happen to him?

He is to slow at right back. As a centre back i think he is our best. He reads the game better than both Nelsen and Samba.

I would imagine that story is correct. The Trustees have come under some fire and responded which is good. They should listen.

But part of me also says 'so what?' as their £3 million may be 'made available' but not necessarily get used.

It would also tell me that they don't want some of the current interested bidders for the club...and this is a sign to say that.

The sum is small but the gesture is significant. And, frankly, you should never criticise anyone who puts money into your club - no matter how much.

Having Emerton on the right is only a problem if we have no creativity elsewhere. last season most play went through Bentley (either because he refused to give the ball to anybody else or because he was the main outlet) with him gone you don't have to replace the outlet in the same position. If we get a creative central midfielder and use Gamst more we can cope with having a more defensive guy on the right.

Ince might not go with a 4-4-2 formation and might use something which means that not having Bentley out on the right isn't going to be missed. Having 5 midfielders (2 defensive, 3 attacking) for example or a 4-3-3 formation? All options that would compensate for not having Bentley.

How about Arteta? If Everton are looking to sell we could do a lot worse as a creative player.

Doesn't he want to go to Spain though? why would he swap Everton in UEFA cup for us?

Don't be a plonker. Emerton is completely useless on the right wing.

Arteta has been angling for a move to Spain for some time. However he might not get his way as Everton want a lot for him.

Emerton's a great attacking fullback, so I don't see why we should be sacrificing his contribution there to try and fill a gap elsewhere.

I think he has most of the attributes to be a great winger (great pace and energy and has the skill to be able to carry the ball out of trouble), but doesn't seem to have the instinct to play the killer pass / first time cross when required in the final third, which is what we need most. Especially so if we're gonna lose Bentley.

Would rather see him overlapping the right winger and creating space or breaking forward from the middle of the park than being left to shoulder alot of our attacking responsibilities. I was hoping we'd seen the last of Bert MkI for good...
