Majiball Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Edit: We don't even know if RSC has some sort of clause allowing him also to leave on the cheap in specified circumstances. Hopefully not, but you never know. I be surprised if there was a release clause, surely after Bellamy then learnt, I still think Santa will stay. Huntelaar to the gooners seems to be gathering more pace, should adey leave them. He fits in better with Wengers previous buys as he's younger than RSC.

Roque is a vastly superior player to Huntelaar. I think Wenger knows that too.
RibbleValleyRover Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Roque needs to play week in week out in my opinion in order to maintain fitness and keep injuries at bay. Almost certain he would not get that at Arsenal.
Majiball Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Roque is a vastly superior player to Huntelaar. I think Wenger knows that too. Don't disagree, but would wenger pay for him? RSC is a 20 goal a season striker with us, in a team like arsenal you could be looking at 30+, what would that be worth in todays market? Surely not the paltry 12M i keep reading.
RibbleValleyRover Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Tim Vickery the highly respected South American expert who is very good on the world football phone on five live wrote an interesting article about Roque a while back http://cgi.cnnsi.com/2007/writers/tim_vick...land/index.html What i found in particular interesting was this comment: "Soccer brings out the warrior side of the Paraguayans. Off the field, though, they can often be shy, tranquil individuals. It could just be that Santa Cruz reacts better to playing for a smaller, provincial club where he is made to feel important." There could be some truth in that, he clearly has blossomed at Rovers and states how he loves the club and he likes the atmosphere and the feel of it. He doesn't have the pressures of playing for a huge club with high demands for success.
Wild Irish Rover Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 So, reading the 10 pages or so that have been created since last night's teaser from Nicko... nothing has actually happened. No bids tabled for t'lad, no requests for permission to speak to him, no actual movement at all other than the Rovers reiterating that the player is under contract and available for £17m plus. Blimey... I wish we had something real to talk about...

As much as I like RSC, lets be honest he has only done it for one season - Bennie did well his first season, but not last season. What if RSC does what Bennie did in his second season in the premiership. It would not surprise me if Ince tries to off load Bennie. How much do you think Bennie Macathy would cost in today's market?
T4E Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Roque is a vastly superior player to Huntelaar. I think Wenger knows that too. You think?! I think that's somewhat of a stretch!
nicko Posted July 8, 2008 Author Posted July 8, 2008 You think?! I think that's somewhat of a stretch! Roque is a class act, just a bit of pace short of being a worldie. I think his skill would appeal to Wenger more than that out-and-out goalscorer that is Huntelaar. Arsenal play with skill and intelligence and I could see Roque fit in there better than Huntelaar. If Roque could sprint I think everyone would be in for him at £20 million-plus. I'm not sure Arsenal will come in for him, but it's one that you can't discount.

But as we are dealing with Spurs among others there will be some dancing round handbags for a while yet.

I agree Roque is class, his workrate is another attribute people forget to mention as well. I got slated by a few friends of mine for saying that Roque is as good as Berbatov, if not better. I wouldn't swap the great sulk for Roque.
Martin Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Re: Bentley's sell-on fee = disaster. Re: Bert on the right wing = disaster. He can't cross.
T4E Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Re: Bentley's sell-on fee = disaster. Re: Bert on the right wing = disaster. He can't cross. I think that sums Tuesday up quite nicely.
den Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Re: Bentley's sell-on fee = disaster. Re: Bert on the right wing = disaster. He can't cross. Yes, but Bert can be taught how to cross.
PAFELL Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 The Bentley situation is now very real. But as we are dealing with Spurs among others there will be some dancing round handbags for a while yet. Hleb has just made a statement saying he never said any of the comments in today's papers. Out of curiosity how much is Hleb valued at?
nicko Posted July 8, 2008 Author Posted July 8, 2008 Hleb has just made a statement saying he never said any of the comments in today's papers. Out of curiosity how much is Hleb valued at? Arsenal can ask what they want but I think about £12-14 million sounds right.
Bobby G Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Thats the nature of buying British. They always cost more. There is no chance in hell that Hleb is worth less than Bentley or a lesser player than him as he could walk into almost any XI of any club in the world. Messed up transfer market...
Ricky Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Just out of interest has anybody actually confirmed that Arsenal have a sell on clause. Just wondering af anyone at the club has confirmed it or wether it's just speculation at present.
Manchester Blue Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Edit: We don't even know if RSC has some sort of clause allowing him also to leave on the cheap in specified circumstances. Hopefully not, but you never know. If he does, will it be called the Santa clause?
PAFELL Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 If he does, will it be called the Santa clause? Too much wine at lunchtime???????????
Bobby G Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 If Arsenal DIDNT have a sell-on clause for one of the most highest-rated youngsters in the country then they would be fools. I think we can ALL AGREE. However, the matter of it being 50% is whats shocking! I am inclined more towards believing it than not.
hawkiiz Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 just wondering. now that our transfer kitty is some place between 10 and 20 million, why do we really want to sell? you can get any kind of player for that money. if you have 50 million to spend all you get is a hotter name. the quality is probably the same. its all about good scouting. clubs coming in for RSC now are lazy. agree? they might spend 10 million or more on a player they could have gotten for 4 million 12 months back if they just cared doing the scouting. if ince have the nose. then the club have all the money he needs at the moment.

I take it you are including the Bentley sale in that? or are you saying original £10m plus £5m from Hughes sale and trusts £3m = £18m? As far as Cruz is concerned the guy has never made any suggestion that he wants to leave, so I wouldn't care if an offer of £30m came in, I'd still say no.
