LeChuck Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Lots of folk reckon he can. Emerton is 29 Den. We all know who you're referring to when you made that post, and he's 21. I'm sure you can work out why one can still be possibly be taught to improve crossing whilst the other has passed that stage.

1878 Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Arteta has been angling for a move to Spain for some time. However he might not get his way as Everton want a lot for him. NICKO- I'm an Everton fan and have been lurking on here as a guest for a while, finally decided to post How sure are you that Arteta is for sale? It doesn't add up with him signing a 5 year contract not long ago. Did you know that the club have hired a specialist from Cadiz that Arteta was flying out to Spain to see throughout last season to come over and work for us? That was last week. Why would they do that if he might be sold? I know we're skint but I was under the impression only Johnson was going to raise funds, nobody else. Any truth in the Milito story in today's Liverpool Echo? Seems like club spin to me. Cheers!

I think Milito is guesswork. Bent is the one they want, but he is too expensive at £12 million.
DP Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 It doesn't matter now how much Bentley cost us and how much we've benefitted from him in the past. His market value is what we can get for him in the transfer market vs him being at Rovers for the remainder of his contract. If it's the proposed 7.5 million vs 2 more years of him being a Rovers player then I would say it's a no brainer and he stays a Rovers player. Forgetting player unrest, team spirit etc, that's the pure commercial way of looking at it. People (the public and the media) are often surprised when they find out how cheap we picked Bentley up for. Well the old saying, if a deal's too good to be true, it usually is.. has certainly popped up here. With hindsight, we shouldn't have signed it, even more, Bentley certainly shouldn't have agreed to it, but of course he didn't have the luxury of stating his demands back then. How these things come back to bite you on the arse hey Dave.
FeedTheHare Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Nicko, Villa fan here. Have you heard anything about us signing any players? There's been alot of rumours but no signings yet. Have you heard anything perhaps more concrete? Thanks!

[mischievous grin]but why has no-one ever been able to bestow a "finish", "final ball", "end product" or whatever you want to call it, to Emerton's game? They have had 29 years to do it. Don't tell me no-one has tried?[/mischievous grin].

It's all shades of gray?
herbergeehh Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Norwegian starlet Tarik Elyonoussi, linked to us earlier, is on his way to Le Mans in France according to Norwegian newspapers tonight. 20 years old, he recently made his debut for our national side (and scored) playing alongside John Carew upfront. Anyway, just thought I'd mention, Fredrikstad (his club) has allegedly accepted a bid from the French side, thought to be "over 30 million NOK" (2,5 million pounds sterling).... Laters all.
Ricky Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Just a quick post to say that although we welcome fans from other clubs on the messageboard we don't appreciate posters just coming on and asking questions about their club. This is a Blackburn Rovers messageboard and obviously the majority of threads should be in keeping with that. We wouldn't go on a Villa or Everton messageboard to ask who Rovers were signing.
den Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Maybe some people realise their potential and others don't? Life's not black and white is it? It's all shades of gray? More likely some have the talent, while others don't.
DanLad Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 More likely some have the talent, while others don't. So, is Emerton talentless?
Exiled_Rover Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Just a quick post to say that although we welcome fans from other clubs on the messageboard we don't appreciate posters just coming on and asking questions about their club. I don't see the harm in it. There's still a heavy Rovers bias, but as long as Nicko is willing to answer questions about other clubs I don't see why this isn't as good a place as any to do it.
bob fleming Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 I'm a bit sick and tired of fans from other clubs posting on here without knowing the etiquette... I was about to say how refreshing it's been to have fans from all these other clubs on here recently, West Ham, Newcastle, Villa, Everton and Fulham - and that fella whose brother supports that shower down the road. It's good. But you beat me to it Dan. Ricky - in all fairness I doubt those messageboards have nicko posting on them. It's healthy I reckon. Maybe a new thread titled "Nickos Thread - for fans of the Inferior who bow down to the Mighty Blackburn Rovers and BRFCS"? Latters.
brfcshabba Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Really? I don't see the harm in it. There's still a heavy Rovers bias, but as long as Nicko is willing to answer questions about other clubs I don't see why this isn't as good a place as any to do it. This is a Blackburn Rovers messageboard. If I wanted to read about the next Everton left back or Villa winger I would go on to their messageboard.
Eddie Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 I actually don't really like other fans coming on here. It's ok if you want to become a memeber and really participate (like fulham), but if you're just going to come on to ask about your club then I think you should go somewhere else.
Lathund Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 I think you are rewriting history a bit there. At the time Bentley was damaged goods with an attitude problem that had seen him forced out of Arsenal and a poor loan at Norwich had been followed by him doing little at Rovers. For us to pay 3million on a big gamble was surely a reasonable fee. As for "£5m would be a low estimate"...no way. The discussion among Rovers fans was if he would ever really make it or be yet another faded talents who didn´t make it. I wasn't arguing the deal's value on it's own, I even think £3m alone would've been quite a lot, but instead comparing the deal we got with a straight cash deal. The equivalent sum of straight cash to make up for the 50% sell-on would add a couple of million to the fee. Rev said that we should've gotten rid of the 50% by adding a little more, I was arguing that it'd be more than just a little.
den Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 So, is Emerton talentless? He's a fabulous athlete. His lack of a final ball does give credence that some things are god given and can't be coached though, don't you think?
bob fleming Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 He's a fabulous athlete. His lack of a final ball does give credence that some things are god given and can't be coached though, don't you think? Emerton is just fine. Just don't give him time on the ball to think. That leads to all sorts of problems. Could be the next Super Atko I reckon.
DanLad Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 He's a fabulous athlete. His lack of a final ball does give credence that some things are god given and can't be coached though, don't you think? No. The whole nature versus nurture thing is WAY bigger than this.
Backroom trueblue Posted July 8, 2008 Backroom Posted July 8, 2008 Emerton is just fine. Just don't give him time on the ball to think. That leads to all sorts of problems. Could be the next Super Atko I reckon. Maybe he should wear blinkers.. might keep him going in a straight line
hawkiiz Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 I actually don't really like other fans coming on here. It's ok if you want to become a memeber and really participate (like fulham), but if you're just going to come on to ask about your club then I think you should go somewhere else. You know what? This is NICKOS thread. it can contain whatever fits, and transfers absolutely do, even though its villa or everton or burnley. villa and everton transfers do concern us anyway so im happy to know whats going on there. now that we are talking bentley, sure its of interest to know who the others are looking at? if arteta goes, then that opens up for bentley leaving doesnt it? welcome all and i hope Tarik stays. he is porn on a pitch to watch, so i hope either stay or get to blackburn
bob fleming Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Maybe he should wear blinkers.. might keep him going in a straight line That really isn't that bad an idea. Maybe also a neck brace to keep his head up? So he can watch where he's going? So: no time on the ball, neck brace and blinkers. Cracked it. I bet there's a bloody sell on clause though.
LWX Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 He's a fabulous athlete. His lack of a final ball does give credence that some things are god given and can't be coached though, don't you think? Yup, I agree, if Emerton could deliver a killer ball, he wouldn't be playing for Rovers.
Wild Irish Rover Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 There's already a thread for other clubs. Specifically Premier League clubs too. Link to whats happening at other prem clubs thread
