Nicko, i know you probably can't say yet who we might be looking at for the attacking mid position, but i just wanted a yes or no answer really. Are we looking at some big, top quality names for the position?

All sorts of types, shapes, sizes and prices right now. VERY early days.

May have news on one possible target if I can establish how far it's gone...give us a few hours.

I'm surprised that that more fans aren't kicking up a fuss about potentially selling our most creative player and main assist provider to sides which are considered our rivals for the Uefa Cup Spots. Its all well and good if we can replace Bentley with someone who is as good, but if we don't we will be just weakening ourselves whilst our rivals get stronger. I'm not sure there is anyone out there who fits the bill as a replacement, certainly not someone well known.

Not happy about the goalkeeper rumours - why? And not happy about selling Bents to a rival club either - i.e. the likes of Spurs, Villa. Anyone for a protest march, then?

Oh so that means that they haven't ruled me out yet then? It would be a cheap option for the club since I am available on a free and looking for a job. My wage demands are reasonable as well, would be more than happy with just £20k a year, and not a week as most players demands these days.

....is this gonna be in tomorrows Mirror?

If it has moved on it might be.

I'm surprised not many clubs are going in for Shaun Wright-Phillips considering what a great player he can be on his day. Surely a move to a team which guarantee's him first team football would bring out the best in him.

Has he been linked to anyone or maybe as a possible replacement for Bents?

But hang on, the value of a player is purely subjective. The way around it would be to agree with Tottenham that say Lennon and Chimbonda are worth 1p each and if they agree to sell them to use for that price they can have Bentley for £5-7m (depending on how we really value the pair). That way Arsenal only get less than half than a full cash deal! Afterall surely Spurs would want to screw over Arsenal too.?

A tribunal would decide in the event of a dispute...

What dispute could there be? There are no rules forcing valuations on players if Spurs were to sell two of their players to us for 1p what rules have been broken?

not sure about SWP. he is very quick and would suit Ince's supposed type of play, he can pop up with goals as well - but he can't cross for toffee. I would have thought he would be quite expensive as well simply for being English and having a few caps to his name. he's better than Lennon, but I'd still prefer somebody who could cross the ball.

Can't get over all these keepers we are getting linked to. We already have more keepers than coaches at the club!

Between us and Arsenal, who would quite rightly feel cheated out of their share of the cash.

Tbh this idea would be borderline fraud and I'd be disgusted if our club tried it on.

well its not exactly flooded by burnley, everton or villa posters. even combined it is not a lot of posts. i think the "are other teams fans allowed to post here"-debate have taken up way more space. funny.

Just my opinion and you are probably right about the debate taking up more space.

Personally i would prefer to stick to rovers news but nicko gets asked all sorts of questions which makes it a little bit interesting at times.

With Chelsea players the sticking point is usually their wages. Suspect it's the same with SWP.

Villa supporters on 606 and a blog reckon Villa will sign Bentley and are ecstatic that it will happen.

That is not the case at the moment.

I think Sidwell will sign for Villa today - then Barry has to go - before they get round to Bentley business.

Spurs trying to sell too...so the chase to raise the cash is defintiely on - not over.

Looks like I will have to face the fact that we will likely shoot ourselves in the foot by selling Bentley to a rival for the Uefa Cup spots and as a result strengthening them and weakening ourselves.

If the rumours are true then we will have to rely on Emerton as our right wing option…

I'm sorry but if that’s true its a ******* disgrace.

What's interesting about this Bentley saga is that everybody needs to sell. We know that Villa and Spurs are interested, but are both trying to sell players to Liverpool to raise the funds. we all know that Liverpool don't have much money left to spend themselves. Spurs are trying to sell them Keane and Villa Barry. me thinks that Liverpool can only afford one of them so whoever sells to Liverpool will probably end up getting Bentley. But Liverpool seem to only be able to afford the transfer of one of those two once the deal for Crouch to Portsmouth goes through.

Good god it's complicated :D

So all we have to do is find a way to scupper Portsmouth's attempt to buy Crouch and bentley stays put :)

What would amuse me is if Spurs sold off all these players (Lennon, Bent etc) to raise the cash and then he went to somebody else. I'd laugh my tits off!!

At the risk of upsetting some of our visitors this is not the impression I got of what Mr Bigtime had in mind. His bladdered speach outside the beertent seemed to hint that he felt he belonged at one of the big four.

I wouldn't be happy if he went to the likes of Villa or Spurs. For me it would have to be top four, aboroad or he stays and honours the contract he signed.

I agree.

Bentley will come out with the same rhetoric "i need to move on and improve myself at the highest level" if he goes to another club and they do not make the champions league either next season or the season after. I just can't see the top four being broken into anytime soon.

If Villa cant hold on to their best player (Gareth Barry) then they aren't that much bigger or better than us. Sideways move.

(plus they have an oddball manager)
