ebenrocks Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Seriously though lads - what offer would it take to get you to change your mind? Friedel is ageing now - surely a big fee would tempt the club? I wouldnt accept silly money for friedel. In Brad we have: a hugely respected leader and vice captain. a potential goalkeeping coach an absolutly fantasic keeper why would we sell him? hes one of those rare players who's service is worth more to the club than money. I heard talk about a 1.5 million City offer. Hughes may be a total @#/? but he isnt an idiot, he knows that Friedel only has maybe 1 or 2 more seasons in him, but he also knows hes getting more than just a keeper for his money. If we let Brad go to City or any other club i guarentee they'll have him signed to coach as soon as he finishes playing. Thats what they'll be spending the money for.

Martin Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Friedel must not leave. He would be impossible to replace. He has something that few have - a genuine love for the club. There are not enough good keepers around these days. Brad is one of the best. His age doesn't matter, he's worth 12 points a season.
Ewood and I Would Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 I don't want to sell Brad Either but can I play devil's advocate. As good as that guy is I did see a few (very rare) moments last season where he made a mistake he maybe wouldn't have 2 years ago. It could be good if he quit now whilst he's still rememebred as a great keeper because he the last thing we want is for him to "keep going" until he starts making lots of blunders etc ...runs and hides
T4E Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 I have to say - and it goes against what I heard on Sunday - that there WILL be a bid or two for Brad Friedel very shortly. This is all a bit strange. I know he doesn't want to go... Short of pissing on Jack's statue, could Ince make a worse PR choice than to let Brad go? I can't think of one.....
percy Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Im not saying sell him - im saying if a daft offer came in, at his age, then the club would have to consider it surely! Especially when money is power at the moment! and how much do you think we should spend in trying to replace Brad? It's gonna be difficult enough when the time comes, let alone whilst we're already trying to keep / rebuild the team. I don't see any point whatsoever in selling him (to a rival club as well!) and having to waste valuable transfer funds on someone who, in all honesty, isn't likely to be anywhere near as good. Especially when it looks like we'll need to use what funds we have to buy a quality midfielder & right back to compensate DB being sold and Bert moving back into midfield. I honestly think the best solution would be to stick with Brad for as long as Rovers/he can manage, whilst giving us much needed time to do some serious scouting into potential replacements.
SAS Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Short of pissing on Jack's statue, could Ince make a worse PR choice than to let Brad go? I can't think of one..... It wont take an enormous offer to let brad go And an offer of that will not come in for a 37 year old
Commondore Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Ince doesn't really need that much PR in his current position. Every major sell (like BRad) can be explained by "It's all part of my big plan" and he would still get the chance to prove it in his first few games.
Roaming Rover Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Again, don't want and don;t think we should let Brad go. But Ince's job is not based on sentiment or hero status. So getting £2mil (not saying we will...but if clubs want him that bad) for Brad and Ince has a more than able replacement lined up age 28 or 29 for around £3.5mil then that would seem like good business. We are never going to be able to replace Brad like for like, it would cost us a fortune. Who knows, If Ince decides to 'cash in' on Brad thats his choice. I'll still back him, he is paid the big bucks to make these decisions and It may just work out well for BRFC in the long run.
modes98 Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Brad is Mr Blackburn. You cut him open and his blood is blue & white. He should be allowed to stay and form part of the coaching team under Steele. Even if Ince feels he needs to bring in another younger keeper to put pressure on him, afterall the quote in my signature is from the big man himself and he would love the challenge.
Roaming Rover Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Modes, they also have that quote stuck to the changing rooms at the Shay (Halifax town). It didn;t do them to much good I agree, if the plan is to move Brad to the coaching side, which I think we should, then he should not be for sale.
broadsword Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 To come in and sell one of your top performers, who doesn't want to leave, before you've even taken charge of one single game ... it's total bonkerness.
hawkiiz Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 the always trusted tribalfootball says Sporting Lisbon winger Simon Vukcevic is wanted by rovers, city and bolton.
nicko Posted July 9, 2008 Author Posted July 9, 2008 the always trusted tribalfootball says Sporting Lisbon winger Simon Vukcevic is wanted by rovers, city and bolton. Rule one - always distrust comments by an agent when they mention three clubs after his player.
Solberto Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Nicko, how do you get all your information ? I mean, your rovercontact must be quite tired if you ganna call them for every news.. ?
Majiball Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Seriously though lads - what offer would it take to get you to change your mind? Friedel is ageing now - surely a big fee would tempt the club? 10M Sounds fair, no amount of money would tempt me, Friedel is one of the top keepers in this league. I don't want to sell Brad Either but can I play devil's advocate. As good as that guy is I did see a few (very rare) moments last season where he made a mistake he maybe wouldn't have 2 years ago. It could be good if he quit now whilst he's still rememebred as a great keeper because he the last thing we want is for him to "keep going" until he starts making lots of blunders etc ...runs and hides Yes he did but no more than all the rest of the keepers in the league, but he also played some blinders Man utd was a goalkeeping Clinic. When was the last time green or Robinson did that, I agree we need stronger back-up, but his Presence is hugely important to our team.
nicko Posted July 9, 2008 Author Posted July 9, 2008 Nicko, how do you get all your information ? I mean, your rovercontact must be quite tired if you ganna call them for every news.. ? A large phone bill and the ability to type with one finger...
thenodrog Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Let a rival of ours buy Bentley. 17 million? He's good, but not THAT good. If Bentley played for Boro or West Ham and Villa went and splashed 17 million on him we wouldn't be too worried. 17m it appears now is pye in the sky. Quite simply Bentley is worth 7 million and thats that! As such he is now an affordable signing for us! He might sulk for a bit but he cannot afford to do that for long. Should he bo sold then imo any deal that decides his future will be done between 3 clubs ... BRFC, the Arse and an other.
thenodrog Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Why do we have to replace Bentley like for like? Lets go another route, someone with a bit of pace, someone with some skill, more direct, exciting. Someone like Aaron Lennon. Has somebody nicked your computer?
thenodrog Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 This idea that Bentley is replaceable with what is left out of player and agent's bites out of a £10m residual from his sale is risible. I wish I were wrong but selling Bentley will drop our final league position by five places and lose us the £3m the Walker Trust have just agreed to put back in. I thought that about losing Hughes. So thats now a 10 place drop. Where would that leave us Philip? err and thats without factoring in any crap involving Brad and RSC leaving.
thenodrog Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Agreed, but I think that we can replace the service Bentley provides. Sums up your knowledge about football perfectly eddie when it appears that the combined intellects of MoN, Ramos and Benitex can't do that. Still what do they know eh? I bet they are crap at CM.
Martin Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 According to SSN Burnley are in the running to sign Chris Eagles from Man Utd. I always thought he may go on to be a real player. I wouldn't mind Ince snapping him up for a million or so. A pacey player with real quality and good schooling.
Eddie Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 I play FM, not CM. Didn't know that there being an interest in a premiership player is all that is required to support his quality. I feel better about my knowledge of football knowing that I disagree with you.
Ewood and I Would Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Short of pissing on Jack's statue, could Ince make a worse PR choice than to let Brad go? I can't think of one..... Appoint Grabbi as first team coach?
