That said if someone offered silly money at his age, (5m?) surely the club would surely have to at least consider it.

I have to agree. Cudicini was at Brad's level when he was first choice for Chelsea, and I think he'd still be the same at 34. If we could get good money for Brad and Cudicini on a free/nominal (no idea what his contract situation is), then it's certainly something we should look at.

I must add...all that is assuming Brad wants a move elsewhere. After the loyalty he's given us there's absolutely no way he should be sold if he wants to stay, regardless of the fee.

Exactly what i said Revidge. £5m at his age would be crazy and would cover the cost of a solid much young keeper like Robsinson or Green.

Yes Friedel is a legend but he is ageing and he is going slower. Yes he still has some top games (i.e. United at Home) but he is also not getting to some that he used to.

Perhaps a ounger keeper who can potentially overtake him might keep him on his toes. We've been linked to Green and Robinson, and they'd both fit that bracket. Mind you Brown/Faroe Island man/Fielding may be good enough but are just being kept in he dark by Brad's lack of injuries. I don't know, I don't watch the reserves or youth team.

Can't believe all the hysteria about Brad.

Nicko says there will be several offers for him. If you were another team, wouldn't you want him if at all possible, and wouldn't you think now with a new manager was the best time to test our resolve?

Doesn't necessarily mean that either:

a) He wants to go or

b ) That either Ince or the Club want to sell him.

That said if someone offered silly money at his age, (5m?) surely the club would surely have to at least consider it.

Lets be honest - like us all brad is not getting any younger and a day will come when Rovers have to replace him - we would all like brad to continue for ever. folks we all know this will never happen - Ince / Rovers know that - so maybe Ince is facing this fact NOW - Ince has a job to do, we are watching him doing that that job - we hope he does it right. As a manager Ince has spoken to Brad, so possible knows how Brad is feeling physically. How do we know if Brad has said words such as 'Ince I am struggling to keep to my best, get somebody else in quick'. As supporters we look through tainted glass at what goes on behind the scenes. Maybe there are things we don't know about brad, but the club do.

IMO Brad Friedal is the best keeper in the premiership. But he cannot go on for ever - mores the pity. reality hurts us all at times.

True - Also its more likely that he will go onto America with his own academies rather than stay with us as a coach.

To be honest I wouldn't want Brad as a coach, it's his amazing reflects and shot-stopping instincts that have made him a stand-out goalkeeper, and they can't be coached. There have long been questions about his starting position on set-pieces and command of his area, and they're really the sort of areas that a goalkeeping would cover.

it's his amazing reflects and shot-stopping instincts These cannot be taught. You either have it or you do not. Instinct cannot not be taught. Rovers for some reason or another have always had good keepers. Some on here may not remember Roger Jones, Paul Bradshaw - but everybody said at the time lose these and we are doomed. yet this was not the case. Friedal was crap at liverpool and needed to regain his confidence - if he joined rovers today fro liverpool everybody would say that the club have jsut signed crap - yet.

Out of curiosity does anybody know what happened to Paul Bradshaw after Rovers? He was imo a very good keeper for rovers.

I just don't buy the implication of your multiple posts that a bloke who spent 15 years playing at the very top and then 15 months managing at the bottom would think that the standards of the bottom are good enough to succeed at the top - it makes no sense. Hence my view that maybe the people he used are not 4th division donkeys.

Hence my rather laboured point that if that was the case they would have been employed at a higher level and would never have considered dropping down to the '4th' Div to find work. Also would such 'ambitious' people not have deemed the qualifications required to be an absolute necessity and have passed them years ago? Hughes and Bowen certainly did.

For anyone who thought the Bentley saga couldnt get any sillier: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/...es-resolve.html

I think that will just be an opening offer. Villa aren't gonna offer the reported £17m straight up. Lets see if Spurs come in with a cash offer, I doubt it. They have got two teams at the moment - a bit of a clear out is needed before they bid for Bentley imo. I hope we can get him, but I think Milner is more realistic.

considering O'Neill's views on Barry I hope he won't be too dissapointed when we hold the same line.

Besides the 11 million for Crouch and 6 million for Zamora has certainly upped the anty on Bentley's value in this market

Of course not. But business will be done in private and if he does come to us, you will get a significant amount of money. It's between us and Spurs I reckon. Benitez is yet to sign a Spaniard, so it'll be a Spaniard (Silva?) and Barry for them. Can't see them forking out another £17m bid for Bentley after those two.

You really do think Paul Ince, of Man Yoo, Inter and Liverpool, 50 England caps, has no idea what 'good' looks like when it comes to coaching? Whereas you with x years in the Blackburn Combination do?

OK, but before condemning the man, personally I'd like to see who he sells, buys, picks, drops, improves, how he uses subs and so on. You know, the stuff that actually really matters.

I think this sentiment has been posted before, but it seems to have goten lost in all the transfer speculation.

Before Bents came to prominence, MGP was doing pretty good for us. It was when Bents started to be able to play where ever he wanted and Gamst had to stay on the wing did he start to lose his sharp vision and confidence. If and when Bents goes, I think it will allow Gamst to start to drift back in and out, seeing passes, lining up crosses and taking blinders with his left foot.

I also agree with some of the posted who have said we might want to not replace Bentley like for like. Lennon wouldn't fill his boots IMO and maybe taking the team in a different way would help naturally work and settle things out.

the problem with gamst was much the same as benni wasnt it? he got unsettled a bit because of all the spaculation after a few brilliant seasons. i think this year we will see gamst and benni back on track, but bentley droppiing in form if he stays. i remember very well the free-kicks from gamst against man city and some excellent crosses. he also do a brilliant job defending - which let warnock run up. remember gamst has been the man who runs the most per game. thats important to. he works really hard. bentley could easily be a huuuuge primadonna this year, and so losing form. cash in i say. get a decent replacement and a good midfielder. the lack of tugays passes are more vital than bentleys crosses IMO.

Anyone know anything about him?

I see wiki is updated already

Senior clubs

2006–2008 Red Star Belgrade

2008 Blackburn Rovers F.C.

No news on how fast he is yet though ;)

Any ideas on who Newcastle are signing today Nicko?

Word is all the transfers are trying to be kept under wrap from now on, and the Newcastle Chronicle will be the first to announce all signings.

EDIT: Mirror says it's Gokham Inler.

so am I supposed to get excited yet?

PS On the Bentley front it's JWs resolve MON has to test and I don't see him selling cheap even if Ince is prepared to let Bentley go.
