spencey7 Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 He still proved last season on numerous ocassions he is still a top keeper. The United game for instance was a goalkeeping masterclass. Not to mention the effect Brad's possible departure may have on the back four. I cannot believe this is being discussed. Of all the possible changes at Ewood this summer, I never contemplated a Brad Friedel transfer would come up. If he does go (and as Nicko says, it is 'if') then Paul Ince better have two things: 1) An OUTSTANDING replacement already lined up and 2) A damned good explanation.
rovers_rob Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 I can't believe all this talk about Brad leaving, it doesn't make sense at all BUT.... I was told a few weeks ago by someone who knows someone who knows someone etc.. who knows one of the players that Brad has already had talks with Villa and there is a good chance that he will go. At the time I dismissed it as complete rubbish and I will still be amazed if it happens.
Mr Creosote Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Friedel to West Ham nicko?!!!? Not a snowball's chance in hell.
spencey7 Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Yeah im not denying that he is still a top keeper and on his day can stop a bus, but for how much longer - that is the vital question!?! What about Lillian Thuram to shore up the defence - free agent? Is this a wind-up?? You suggest Brad Friedel may soon be past it, but think we should sign 36-year-old Lilian Thuram?? (Who was WOEFUL in Euro 2008.) P.S. As you stated - Cudicini doesn't play in the same league as Brad - He's been a bench-warmer for almost five seasons, only playing occasional games (and quite often making errors when he did).
den Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Talking to a couple of Liverpool fans about Brad they say he is a very good keeper but he was under pressure at a "BIG" club and had to perform, he was unable to do that, that is why he was released by Liverpool. I don't know about a couple of Liverpool fans - a couple of numpties really. They are so up themselves some of these scouse supporters, they simply couldn't see their club making a mistake. Friedel is Friedel, always was, always will be. Does he not have to perform at Ewood? He's a far, far better keeper than they've had since, or are likely to have any time soon. They simply didn't realise the talent they had at their fingertips.
Majiball Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Who's to say its not more of a case of Brad saying to Ince "bugger me gaffer I is getting old now, I can't be playing every bloody game me forms dropping, I think you should get someone in who can play in the 1st 11, so I can have a rest now and then!"
thelegend7 Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Nicko are there any clubs looking into Van Der Vart or Khalid Boularouz situation. Khalid Boularouz was brilliant in euro 2008 and not forgetting he came back from injury just a few weeks earlier he also can play at RB. Would be an excellant signing for blackburn
gazsimm Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Cudicini is a class keeper. Take off the blue tinted specs and you will realise that Friedel is slowing down, he is still a top keeper, but he isnt as unbeatable as he was 2 years ago. [/quote) I don't see the point of selling Brad we are not going to get a big fee for him because of his age and he will be very hard to replace. Cudicini is a good keeper, but he is getting on a bit as well i think and i would rather have Brad then him anyway. We should only sell Brad if we get a silly offer for him, if we don't then we should say he is not for sale.
socngill Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 What about jason Brown? He is our number two and I believe has represented Wales at full international level. He is clearly a good keeper, but we just have not had the oppertunity to see how good. Don't want Brad to go though. The red rose would wither!
alexanders Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Rovers have been looking at keepers for the past few days - it puzzled me when the rumours started but it IS the case. Isn't Brown considered good enough to being the first XI?
gazsimm Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Yeah im not denying that he is still a top keeper and on his day can stop a bus, but for how much longer - that is the vital question!?! Yeah Cudicini plays in the same league! Anyway we cant really compare him, he hasnt been given a chance for the last 3 or 4 years at Chelsea since Cech turned up. What about Lillian Thuram to shore up the defence - free agent? Thuram will be on silly wages, plus he is over the hill now anyway
Blue n White Rover Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Maybe someone can get hold of Mr. Chouwdry to see if these Brad rumours are true

Khalid Boularouz was brilliant in euro 2008 and not forgetting he came back from injury just a few weeks earlier he also can play at RB. Would be an excellant signing for blackburn Van der Vaart has a big opinion of himself. Linked with Real Madrid today...that would suit him. Not as good as he thinks he is. Boulharouz had a bad start at Chelsea and isn't the worst defender in the world - could go out on loan I understand. There is a Premier club thinking about it, possibly more.
nicko Posted July 10, 2008 Author Posted July 10, 2008 Thuram will be on silly wages, plus he is over the hill now anyway Thuram has just found out he has got a heart problem. Leave that whole idea alone. It's not happening.

He is clearly a good keeper, but we just have not had the oppertunity to see how good. Don't want Brad to go though. The red rose would wither! We've seen 45 mins of Brown and I, for one, was very impressed. I wasn't his only fan that day either! All cobblers though - Big Brad's not moving this season!
MarkBRFC Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 We've seen 45 mins of Brown and I, for one, was very impressed. I wasn't his only fan that day either! Him saving a pen probably had something to do with it!

Van Der Vaart cream pied Spurs so he's ok by me.
pksrover Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Him saving a pen probably had something to do with it! And after that double (or maybe even a triple save?) the chant "Are you Friedel in disguise" was heard pretty much everytime he touched the ball
j166429 Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Thuram has just found out he has got a heart problem. Leave that whole idea alone. It's not happening. Correct. Was due to sign for PSG (was a done deal..almost) and then they found out he had a heart problem. His brother unfortuanately died from a similair problem.
pksrover Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Van Der Vaart cream pied Spurs so he's ok by me. He became my favourite player after that comment! Linked, as Nicko said, with Real Madrid. Price rumoured to be around £12 mill, imagine him and Sneijder in the Real midfield!
nicko Posted July 10, 2008 Author Posted July 10, 2008 There are TWO bidders for Brad. This is becoming a bit serious. Interesting when the full story comes out...very interesting.
Eddie Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Yeah, he has a type of cardiompyopathie. Serious stuff.
bringdunnback Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Why are they bidding, have they had encouragement from us or are they testing Ince's relationship with Brad.
