it's not about players turning down better offers. it's more about the vision of the manager, his backroom training staff and how players stand to develop and benefit from that. SWP left man city for chelsea for money and for the chance to work with a brilliant manager. he is a better player for it.

a name like laudrup makes people stop and think. his brilliance was there for all to see and now he wishes to impart that to a team. who wouldn't want to be a part of that?

thumping tackles, snarls and threats are no longer a part of football at the premier level. souness and ince are a thing of the past. laudrup is part of the new school.

No I havent witnessed him in training but he isnt revered much about in the football world is he as being a coaching genius. He is never mentioned among the likes of Harford, Kidd, mcClaren,Bowen,Pearce,Fazackerley and other good coaches that are around.

Thats what I mean. A lower league man NOT a Top 7 Premiership coach

Fair enough, I would agree with you though. I fear for Rovers next season unfortunately.

May I add that it was just not the Hughes factor. Eddie and Mark Bowen were very popular with the players, even though both are tough task masters - does anyone know if Damian Roden is still at the club (presume he stayed).

Excellent point. We've yet to receive the bill for this year's Fair Play league.

What was it last year? 100k?

nicko, do you know if compensation has been agreed with mk dons ? Any idea how much it will cost us ?

I would imagine that conversation has happened - or Rovers have been told by Ince. It won't be much.

MK Dons suspected this was coming and were looking for a new manager two days ago.

All of this 'there has been no approach' tosh just made me smile...

I think the script was written on here about half-time on Wednesday night.

I remember reading on a number of occasions in the press that rovers mirrored hughes style of play.

If thats the case with Ince then god help us!!

So as it looks like its Ince, I can't help but feel extremely, extremely underwhelmed.

Analogy: You go on a nice holiday every three or four years, where you budget to spend a good amount of money. You've been used to nice, low-end 5 star accomodation. This year, your usual accomodation is completely sold out. Coincidentally, you had a flutter on some football match, and you've won a fair amount of extra cash. You go around looking for alternatives. You do your research extensively, and you find 1 - a similar low-end 5 star accomodation right next to where you used to stay, but which your kids absolutely hate, 2 - a worn out old hotel, with a good list of amenities and facilities but terrible reviews and reputation and 3 - a costly, boutique hotel which has gotten mixed reviews, with opinions bordering on the love it or hate it variety. And so you think, what now? You don't want to stay in any of them given the choice, but now that you have to choose, you are not exactly comfortable with any of them. So while you keep looking at wotif or some other hotel site to decide who gives better value, you continue the hunt. And then you find 4 - a new, boutique hotel started as the offshoot of an established brand you don't particularly like. but it is not exactly well-located, near the red light district perhaps, or located in a somewhat dodgy neighbourhood. even some of the amenities provided are of the cheaper variants. but the price is right, the reviews have been generally good. So you tell yourself, perhaps this. Number 4 looks like the best choice. And then, you stumble upon option 5 - A newly-built ritz carlton, with rooms to spare, a butler service and even a great room rate with breakfast because its the low season! Your only worry is if the hotel is snooty, if you are of the right "social class" to stay there. You eliminate options 1 to 3, and focus on 4 and 5. What now? You make contact with both hotels, telling them you would get back as soon as possible. Both are polite, but hotel 5 was perhaps a little haughtier over the phone, speaking in perfect, acrolectal English. You feel more comfortable talking to hotel 4, speaking a more colloquial version of the language, and probably coming across as more ernest.

You discuss with your wife, but in your heart, your made up. You want to stay in hotel 5. Its a great brand, the package looks great. You also consider the fact that because its a holiday, because you've consistently enjoyed that level of comfort for the last eight years and you dont want your family to be disappointed by the enforced change to the unknown. Then, your wife decides, time to save a few pennies, or that she is simply not comfortable with such a reknown hotel. She says no. Go for 4.

PS: I forgot to add, somewhere in your accomodation hunt, you thought you encountered a hotel from a chain you used to frequent, and was dead set on that, only to find that it was not even built yet. :P

How would you feel? That is exactly what I'm feeling now. After the journey from Shearer, BFS, WwB, HTC to forcing myself to accept Ince. And then to get my hopes raised with Laudrup. And now back to Ince. I am extremely disappointed. I just don't know why.

Ok, first of all no one knows why we didn't pick Laudrup. There could have been too many clauses (when we have all been screaming for there to never be clauses at Ewood again) or a number of other things. I will not start calling JW and saying Rovers have no ambition because I don't know the details.

If Ince is appointed then I will give him my full support. I can't say it will be Rovers making a massive mistake as others have said because I don't know, time will tell. It's ok saying don't say 'JW knows best' but in this case we can do nothing but trust his judgement in the absence of all the facts.

Nicko - looking back to last time, were you as sure about Dowie becoming BRFC boss?

Obviously I am clutching at straws!

I heard it was going to be Dowie until a couple of days before when I was told it would be Hughes.

Dowie was the in thing and had met the club, he could also talk the drawers off a nun [no offence] and ticked the right boxes.

But Hughes was an ex-Rover and got the nod despite having no club experience. I was shocked by the choice, but it's not down to me.

This managerial chase has been just as turning and twisting, but when I heard a move had been made on Wednesday - after the last interview - then I thought there would only be one outcome...subject to Premier League approval.

On my side!!

I can imagine that the press (present company excepted) will have a field day if any of our players make a bad tackle.

To the media we'll be back to the days of 'Bully Boys'

I think it will create interest and will certainly make life interesting. I hope his football is fiery and feisty, I think it will be.

The clashes with Man U, Liverpool and West Ham will be spicy. And there will be plenty of newspaper space given to his clashes with ex-Man U mates...so it's not a bad thing that way.

From a personal point of view I would love to have seen an old pro like Ten Cate play the beautiful game, but that is just me. Maybe it would have ended in tears.

Maybe it would, but unless we appoint somone like Sir Alex we will always have a fear with it ending in tears whoever we appoint. We had that fear with Hughes and it turned out great. We had that feeling with Brian Kidd....

There is a key line in the story that may explain Big Sam's exit...

The LMA - the managers union - was contacted about Ince. You can take it as read that Allardyce, a big LMA man, got told about that development before he pulled out.
