Speak for yourself BRFC1995! My thoughts are well documented on here from his appointment. The only person that has gone down in my estimation is NOT Paul Ince...... it is John Williams.

Its early days i agree, but if you look at it Ince is bringing in someone who is clearly past it and in a position where we have plenty of players already so you have to be worried.

Really struggling to get my head around this. I just cant see what value Fowler can bring us. He's been past it for about 8 years! Perhaps we're a housing tycoon or 2 short around the Ewood area. Why not go for Steve McManaman as well? Who's next....Gazza?

Still not got braodband in my new flat, came into work and read this :o

Wonder if he will be involved in the coaching stuff.

Sunderland fans seem to think Yorke has done a lot of positive stuff off the field, he doesn't get too much game time. Wonder if this could be something similar, a good character in the dressing room, and to help out with the current strikers.

Someone needs to give paul ince a slap, a big wakeup call. What dvd's has he been watching the 97/98 season or what??????? What is the point??? Roque, Benni, Roberts, Darbs??? where does fowler fit in? can't be as a coach as he never went to training from what i've heard.

Just had time to read the Brad to Villa article in the Mirror and if its correct its clear that its not Brad wanting out but its Ince who and wants a younger replacement.

"Friedel is shocked to find out his long-serving job in the Rovers goal is no longer secure, with new boss Paul Ince looking around for younger replacements."

So let me get this straight we sell one of the top two keepers in the league, who its pretty likely doesn't want to leave all because he wants someone younger. And yet Ince brings in a clearly past it Fowler who shouldn't be getting in the team ahead of any of our current strikeforce.

Ince is fast losing credibility in my eyes.

Cardiff chairman Peter Ridsdale was philosophical about Fowler's decision and told BBC Radio Wales: "We signed him last year with a year's option but at this stage in his career it's understandable that he accepts an offer to go to the Premier League.

"We have to thank Robbie and move on, he goes with our best wishes.

"His image rights were important to us last year but now we're looking at what he could do on the field.

Interesting.

I hope Ince know what he does. Maybe he want Fowler Ewood bound so that he can make him a coach later....

Did you Remember that we signed Mark Hughes when he was 36, and Fowler is 33 and if he gets fit he can perform but Im a bit confused, time will tell.

Always wanted to see Fowler in rovers shirt when Shearer left but 10 years later....will see what happen.

No disrespect, but his legs are long gone.

Some of you need to get a grip. Ince clearly knows, likes and trusts Fowler and hopes he can be a positive influence on the squad. Will he play much? Not unless he shows a massive improvement in fitness and form, no. But I imagine Ince and Fowler are more aware of this than anyone. Will the likes of Darbyshire, Gallagher and Rigters benefit from shooting practice everyday with a legendary goalscorer? Let's hope so. Is it a signing to get excited about? No, not at all, but it's also no reason to reach for the whisky bottle and the revolver!

Selling Friedel on the other hand.....

I am being optimistic for my own sake and sanity here, but despite what some may think, Ince is not stupid.

He will know that relying on Fowler for goals will not help us improve upon last years position, and why would he purposefully cock up his own career by deliberately making bad signings. Williams would have thoroughly interrogated Ince before giving him the job and I think we fans need to take a step back on this one.

I am not saying Roque will definitely stay but I don't think Fowler is an "instead of".

How would we feel if we kept our foward line this year but replaced Roberts with Fowler, and spent the net gain of, say at least £2m on an ever better midfielder than we are currently looking at for example. Things change quickly in football and maybe there is a bit of shuffling being planned.

Or to put it another way, how would we feel if we kept our squad but added Fowler at midnight on deadline day? People would see it as a low risk, low cost, shrewd squad addition IMO.

Can't say I am happy (especially about the possible departure of Friedel) but I think we need to see the bigger, or final picture before we start calling for Ince's head.

1. How many matches has Fowler played since Souness failed (tf) to the former smashing lad / spice boy?

2. How many clubs has he been at.

and

3. How many goals has he scored?

cmon you have to admit the timing of this isnt exactly brilliant... Friedel, a long serving rovers citizen saving us many points and being extremely loyal, being put up for sale

BUT DONT WORRY GUYS FOWLER IS HERE

A signing that bridges the generations!

When Hughes wanted him - nobody complaigned. But because Ince is a new, unproven prem manager - complaints galore. I wonder why Hughes was interested in Fowler a year ago.

Rovers new shop opens on saturday - I can see the advert now - buy grandad a new shirt - home kit with Fowler written on the back
