Parsonblue
Well I'm gutted, but we have to treat this as the Jeffers news of two years back. We've not paid anything for him, he won't be on big wages, so if it fails, it fails. No biggie. I'm just really disappointed after allowing myself to get caught up in last night's hullabaloo. The difference with Jeffers was that we sold him for a profit. Do you think there is another manager out there who would take Fowler off our hands? Bringing in Fowler and offering Brad around just shows that Ince is out of his depth. I wonder what odds I could get on Ince not lasting as long as Jim Iley? robborover
It's a smack in the face for Derbyshire if Fowler signs. What is Ince thinking? Sparky please come back!
Rainmaker
He may walk through the doors at Ewood Park - but he has yet to past the fitness tests - medical etc. It is funny how people did not complaign about Mark Hughes when he signed at 36 years old - Fowler is only 33 years old. As you say it is either a mad move or genius - but not knowing Ince's thinking on this we do not know. Personally I consider it is a strange move to say the least ( I'm being polite) - only time will tell if it is good or bad. I'd say there's a wee bit differenc between being in what now is the Championship, pushing for promotion, and being a top half PL team pushing for Europe. Signing ageing (former) PL players on the decline will make sense for one stage, not the other.
EwoodGlory
Might aswell sign Andrews now, while the headlines are all about Fowler
gumboots
Gumboots, for someone supposedly intelligent, (a teacher) the stuff you come out with at times is quite ridiculous. As was the stuff you came out with about Allardyce. Whilst the quality of nicko's info is usually very good, there is no hard evidence whatsoever that either Friedel wants to leave or the club want to sell. Even if it happens and we sell Friedel and get someone younger (say Cudicini) in for less money, it wouldn't be the worst move in the world. Going back a long way I know but I needed an early night last night. How would someone like Cudicini be cheaper? And all the other keepers like Carson? His price is reputed to have put off Villa who supposedly would prefer to pay for our keeper. Nicko has actually stated that friedel doesn't want to leave but the persistent rumours since Ince came in of our looking at keepers would suggest that there is something in his willingness to sell Friedel. I said at the time that the allardyce stuff was not logical and that I didn't expect others to understand. That has nothing to do with intelligence but with gut feeling. I feel like many others here that to sell Friedel, unless for someone totally brilliant, would undermine Ince's credibility and at the very least would create very bad feeling the first mistake the new keeper, if we get one, makes. There are large numbers of fans who weren't sure about Ince. To immediately make dramatic changes, getting rid of very popular players, is not the best way to go about your new job unless your new signings are a success. Some changes will have to be made - we all know that - and Ince gets well paid for making what will be difficult decisions. Hughes got rid of tony Parkes from the backroom staff early in his reign but most people, when they calmed down after the way it all came out in the press, could see the logic of it. Very few can see the immediate logic of getting rid of Friedel when a replacement will cost more. I don't believe it until I see it announced officially by Rovers but strong rumours have a way of becoming self fulfilling predictions. Obviously you have to factor in journalistic licence, genuine misunderstandings and wrong information, and the fact that so far there are only bids in from other clubs and no definite info that we will sell. And i'm saying nothing about Robbie Fowler. Old ladies like me shouldn't get banned from message boards for using bad language.
rovers_rob
It's a smack in the face for Derbyshire if Fowler signs. What is Ince thinking? Sparky please come back! or will it motivate Derbs to work even harder ? I'm sure Fowler could pass on a few tips to the lad as well.

robborover
I thought Benni was our lazy goal-hanger. Surely, we don't need two strikers offside twenty times a game?
ebenrocks
dont want to give the situation possibly undue hope, but on the Rovers site it only says 'Fowler, most recently with cardiff, will be expected to spend a few weeks with Rovers'... surely that implies he aint staying. Parsonblue
I'll tell you what the bigger picture is.... SQUAD MORALE and other players / agents perception of the direction of BRFC. What message is Brads situation and this signing sending out 'within the trade'? Totally agree. The message that a Bentley and Friedel departure and a Fowler arrival sends out is that the club have given up all hope of building on what Hughes achieved. So much for Ince wanting to keep his better players. Who could blame the likes of Warnock, Samba, Nelsen, Benni and the rest wanting to jump ship? Would Matt Derbyshire be happy to sit on the bench while watching Fowler shuffle around the pitch?
Blue blood
Well with Fowler joining top 6 should be no problem. Should get at least one cup as well I shouldn't wonder. At the moment he's 5th choice in my book behind even roberts. Roberts for all his woeful finishing has power and pace, and causes defences problems (especially those in the bottom half of the table) and provides a different tactical option to the other strikers. The guy also has bagged a few goals and assists each year since joining us. Fowler on the other hand - well he's no pace any more, or fitness come to that, and has been plying his trade at Cardiff. There's a reason that he was at cardiff last year - a Championship side - because he isn't good enough anymore. The past couple of seasons before that weren't great either. And at 33 he's not going to improve. Unless he's 5th choice striker cover this is a bad move for rovers, which shows no ambition and certainly does not improve the team. thenodrog
I wonder what Nabeel Chowdery makes of this...his mate Brad on the way out etc. And the only poss extenuating circumstance there is that maybe Williams feels that Choudery and Brad would replace him? Conspiracy theories or intuition? Dunno you decide folks.
Antgrad
It's all beginning to make sense. Ferguson really holds a grudge against that 1994-5 title win. First he puts Kidd in place and he succesfully takes us down. After somehow coming back from that he manages to get Hughes the job. Hughes of course makes a total mess of it despite his efforts. I mean a New Zealand centre half playing in the US? A Bundesliga reserve defender? A guy that has had a top scoring season of 5 goals in 8 years? Aaron Mokoena? (Yeah, ok he got that one right) No matter what he did it went badly right. Now Feguson's third attempt at ruining Rovers seems to be taking shape. Which player has got them the most points over the last few seasons? Friedel? Get rid. Get rid of the top scorer and top assister too. And while you're at it sign some has been from the championship. RibbleValleyRover
The official Rovers site seems to suggest that he is on trial and will play the preseason tour in Germany, so he's not signed yet. Though he must be confident of getting a deal if he has severed ties with Cardiff.
