Saltysellars
At least Shefki Kuqi's shorts that must have been gathering dust in the corner of the changing room will have a new home on Fowler's backside-assuming he doesn't pull something when he puts them on

RibbleValleyRover
Well if the Fowler move is stupid, the Friedel idea is insane. 1) You cannot replace Brad with a better quality goal keeper for 2.5 million. Mainly because the guy is top class. He's been pretty much outstanding for us year on, year out. 2) Even if you could they'd only be a year or two younger, so what's the point. Invest the resources - time, energy, money - elsewhere, where it's actually needed. 3) Come to think of it, I can't see too many significantly younger keepers who have the potential to become as good as Friedel being available for that amount of money. Robinson (for example) is rumoured to be costing 3/4 million, so we'd be on a looser there. 4) Brad would be an excellent voice in support of Ince in the squad. Well respected by the entire team and knows Ince, would certainly help bridge the gap between the team and the manager. 5) Message to the players - our best players can go for the right price, we're a club looking to sell. Why bother staying - could really do our squad moral a world of hurt. Blimey we've enough players who want out as it is... 6) Message as a club - we've no ambition, we're happy and looking to sell our best players. Brad's also a pretty good spokesman and a great ambassador for the club. 7) Message to the fans. Top player, rovers legend, utterly loyal player, off as soon as Ince get's into the club. This isn't going to help Ince's popularity with the fans. I was disappointed when Knox came as assistant, I was shocked when Fowler was brought in, but selling Brad is beyond what I expected Ince to do and is getting me very worried for the new campaign. Excellent post
Blue blood
I had the feeling that it was Ince's move and not Brad's. Its sad to see a legend of the club and clearly one of the best keepers in the league being treated this way. Plus the move smacks of utter stupidity when the two clubs that want him are rivals for the Uefa spots. Forgot to add this one to my list of why it's utterly stupid to sell brad. Manc Rover
First game of the season at Everton, Robinson makes a string of top draw saves and saves 2 pens and Fowler scores a hatrick. Emerton has a blinder on the right wing and MGP bags 2 Get those humble pies on order now You're either got a brilliant imagination or you need help! The reception at Goodison will be interesting for Fowler, but will probably have a slight niggle (or buying a house)!
Drunx2002
I got a text from a mate just now saying we'd signed Fowler. I too went to bed last night after Nicko's comments thinking that we were set for a shock of the positive kind. I was a bit taken aback by the 'signing' of Fowler and agree that it doesn't make much sense but after reading the gross over-reaction on here I'm planting myself firmly in the "wait and see - positive mental attitude" camp! We have a new manager who is being backed by the board in making pretty big decisions. When Ince came in, Williams said he had been impressed by Ince's drive and genuinely wanting the job and to make it a success. This isn't championship manager - this is a real life football club and there are probably good reasons why the Brad and Fowler transfers are in the pipeline. You don't really imagine that Ince just brought Fowler in as they are 'mates' do you? You don't really think that John Williams said "yeah - that's fine - bring him in if it makes you feel more settled" do you? I'm sure there were similar fan reactions when Utd got rid of Schmeichel and Beckham but we simply need to see what else happens this summer and even more importantly when the games start. Fowler isn't going to be our only signing and there will be more to come. If ince manages to retain the squad from last season with a couple of decent signings, an adequate replacement for Brad (if he goes) and we have a good start to the season then everyone will forget today's over-reaction to Fowler. The reason most of you are narked is mainly because Nicko hyped it up so much we were expecting someone great. Had he not mentioned it at all, people probably wouldnt me so annoyed! One last thing - this INCE out stuff is rather childish. Make a judgement on HIS team, signings, style of play and league position at the end of the season. No knee-jerk reactions now or in January (unless we're doing a Derby)!
Mr Creosote
Thanks for clarifying Nicko. I had the feeling that it was Ince's move and not Brad's. M-K
So our unqualified novice manager decides to sell the best keeper in the club's history and get in a fat, has-been, waster of a striker. Brilliant!

SIMON GARNERS 194
I should have expanded on the Brad Friedel story. It's been, shall we say, overtaken. Villa are in, Man City may well match them when a fee is agreed. Rovers WILL sell...but have to find a replacement first. Absolutely horrified. tony gale's mic
The only thing about the Friedel thing is that we have been linked with Ben Foster who is a very promising keeper. If and only if we can sign him for around 3-4 million then it wouldnt have been that bad business. But I'd still much rather keep Brad, it's a massive gamble and we need stability at this stage. The Gull
On Friedel leaving, people are jumping to conclusions as to the reason(s) for him leaving. Please wait until the truth is out, if it comes out, before judging people. On Fowler, maybe Ince is doing him a favour, letting him get fit and maybe secure himself a contract elsewhere at the end of it, and in return Fowler passes on some shooting advice the likes of Jason Roberts and maybe helps boost morale on a grueling pre season tour seen as he is a bit of a joker. I could be wrong, but so could every other poster, and people wonder why we will never fight for the top spots again, maybe it is down to the make up of the support around the club and the negativity that eminates from every pore and the morgue that can be Ewood Park on a match day unless we are playing a team with decent away following. Now shoot me down for not jumping to conclusions that it is the end of the world as we know it!

Blue blood
Bentley and whom exactly??? Well Warnock have was quoted since Hughes has left saying he's disappointed Hughes left and Santa Cruz said he liked the interest from Man U. Often players don't fully come out with I want to leave till they're definately certain they've got an offer, but are prone to come and get me comments and the like. Also given footballers are a fairly fickle lot, I doubt they'd need much of an excuse/prompting, to look for a move and Ince's first signs may well be giving them thoughts about looking for the exit. One last thing - this INCE out stuff is rather childish. Make a judgement on HIS team, signings, style of play and league position at the end of the season. No knee-jerk reactions now or in January (unless we're doing a Derby)! The problem is that you know as a United fan that you'll replace players with quality. our problem is that the players we're talking about leaving are quality not just as players, but in Brad's case certainly,as people and as loyal club servants. What we appear to be looking at to replace them do not seem to be equal or better quality. They also, in the case of a keeper, will cost more. It is too early for the Ince out chants but it isn't too early to let him know that we aren't happy, if what we are hearing is true. Unless some of the decisions that appear to be being made can be explained then we are going to get increasingly unhappy. There aren't that many of us and you really can't afford to alienate too many fans. I was undecided on Ince and my daughter said that after the press conference she felt really excited so I was very prepared to give him a chance, but my optimism is taking a serious dip now. Drunx2002
Hyped? Go back and check please. Haven't the time! I just meant your posts last night were a touch sensationalist and did whip up a bit of a frenzy that we would be getting some sort of superstar at Ewood today. You could have said "I've heard there will be a potential free signing coming to Rovers but it's nowt to get excited about", rather than leave it hanging. That's all!
