Indeed it should make mboard gold as the best post ever for sorting out the optomists from the pessimists on here whilst simultaineously aggravating everybody! I salute you.

Haven't the time! I just meant your posts last night were a touch sensationalist and did whip up a bit of a frenzy that we would be getting some sort of superstar at Ewood today. You could have said "I've heard there will be a potential free signing coming to Rovers but it's nowt to get excited about", rather than leave it hanging. That's all!

Yeah right.

Not a story at all.

Down that golf club again when you should have been snouting.

Maybe you'll not get my job after all.

There was nothing mentioned about a superstar buddy, nor about it being exciting. It was described as "astonishing".

If you do bother to go back and read the posts you are passing comment on, you'll see that several of us immediately asked the question as to whether it was going to be good or bad. Nicko's posts hadn't stated either way.

We allowed ourselves to get carried away. Thats what being a football fan is about. Having said that, it's Rovers. We should have known better.

There was nothing sensationalist WHATSOEVER about Nicko's posts last night. Some chose to interpret them as the arrival of Seedorf, Ronaldo or Zannetti (optimists); others chose to brace themselves for embarassment (realists).

I doubt whether any of the optimists will have survived the shock this morning...

I think I've just stumbled on a fairly decent point here - Under Hughes we could be optimists. We regularly made signings which surprised the majority of our fan base (Santa Cruz and McCarthy being the best examples). I know precious little of the Ecuadorian goal-scoring defensive midfielder, but I fear the days of "big" signings, may be at an end.

so its just like a trial??

doesnt he have to prove himself then??

if his fitness aint there surely ince wont sign him-unless its giving a mate a favour and all..

you`d have thought so

personally i think he is just someone ince has brought along so the players can have a good laugh at a fallen hero

Well Warnock have was quoted since Hughes has left saying he's disappointed Hughes left and Santa Cruz said he liked the interest from Man U. Often players don't fully come out with I want to leave till they're definately certain they've got an offer, but are prone to come and get me comments and the like.

Also given footballers are a fairly fickle lot, I doubt they'd need much of an excuse/prompting, to look for a move and Ince's first signs may well be giving them thoughts about looking for the exit.

Strange how you missed the susequent Warnock statement saying how happy he was at Ewood and how he had never wanted to leave and he was please with the appointment of Ince. Plus it was Cruz's Dad who intimated he would love to play for Man Utd, and if Cruz said otherwise I'd have reservations about his sanity.

But why let the facts spoil a good arguement..............they all want to leave!!!!!

and THATS how hard its possible to hit the floor i guess. head is still ringing

IF this is ANYTING more than fowler teaming up for a few weeks (which is no biggie. Gamst usually stay fit with Bodø/Glimt in norway in the summer....

but if this is a real signing, then what the eff is ince thinking??? i would rather have Sheringham than fowler. He can never make the starting eleven. and he should NOT take up any space on the bench, even with the new rules of having 7 available. let derbs and roberts sit there. fowler can coach ok. that would be ok. nothing more

Ince have to understand he is not at DONS anymore!!!! get a new shopping list already :angry2:

i feel pretty good for backing big sam right now...

The issue of Fowlers (potential) signing is only a negative one when we compare it with the possibility of Friedel leaving.

Two totally unrelated events.

With Fowler we would have Five strikers, this must be Ince's strategy for the coming season.

Rigters has been rumoured with a move away, while Gallagher has often been played wide.

Roque and Benni must be the first choice pair, I don't think there was any likelihood that they would be replaced.

Really couldn't give a monkey's about Fowler anymore. Strange transfer if it came about, I'm hoping it's mainly to help bring the younger strikers along with their development.

It's the selling of Brad that's got me worried, especially if he's happy to stay at Rovers. It does not make an ounce of sense to me at all.

I'll stand to be corrected if we sign an equally capable keeper or a younger keeper with great potential for the future without waasting what little transfer funds we have. Not that I'm pessimistic :(

This is a hideous start to Ince’s reign.

Signing Fowler is idiotic. Clearly a case of getting his old pals around him. I get the feeling Ince is taking advantage of the backing he will receive.

What does this say to Matt Derbyshire??

Nothing concrete has happened with Brad, but nobody has denied it.

Ince is ruining our club pretty fast.

If this is how Ince wants to carry on who can blame Bentley (and Rocky?) for wanting to move elsewhere.

We have a fourth tier backroom team and an old man upfront.

Not happy, not one bit.

I m I completely missing the point but why is there such an outcry concerning Fowler? The official site says 'Fowler is expected to spend a few weeks with rovers', so unless I've missed something it does not say we are going to sign him. Im sure that Fowler was going to be on a pay as you play at cardiff, so would that not be the case here IF they did sign him?

A Top Quality premiership striker that has proven his worth, ove 300 premiership games and has bags of experience, I think Derbyshire might be pleased to get a lesson or two of the scouser. I know I would be.

FOWLER - I really don't understand the massive over reaction to this. It's not like he's going to be offered any sort of deal in the next few days or even weeks. Let him go to Germany with the team - what harm can that do??

FRIEDEL - if any other journalist other than Alan Nixon had penned that article in the Mirror they would be kicked from pillar to post on here for "trying to sell our players in the newspapers". There is hardly a substantive fact in the piece.

Don't get deceived by the spin - Friedel is certainly not being pushed through the exit door by anyone at Rovers. If Friedel leaves Ewood it's because he decides that's what he wants to do. It would be no coincidence if he ends up at Man City.

I haven't seen Warnock's other comments - good news if that is what he's said.

I also didn't say they all wanted to leave just that there was some unrest in the squad, and as spency says being forced out is different and isn't going to be good for the moral. Now given that there was some unrest when we doing alright under Hughes (Benni and Roberts for example) do you not think that there's likely to be more unrest given the Friedel situation?

Also what about the other 6/7 points?

I think it's more about what the link with Fowler, together with the speculation about friedel, says about our ambitions as a club. we finished 7th last season in case anyone has forgotten and the talk when Ince came in was of moving us forward. Now, if we can find a great repalcement for brad at a price that doesn't take abig chunk of our transfer budget, we could still move forward. If Fowler is being looked at as a striker coach in the way that saunders was when Souness was here, then it could still be moving forward. However, if we're expecting fowler to play with any kind of regularity and we sell Friedel but the replacement is expensive and/or nowhere near the quality that Friedel has given us then we're heading backwards. We were sold the idea of building on Hughes's achievements when Ince came in, and so far the signs look negative. It wouldn't take a lot to get them back on the positive side, but it keeps raining and the poor news keeps coming at the moment, and we're Rovers fans so we get depressed.
