That's only a good thing if he's right, if he's wrong and won't listen to other people telling him so then it will be a disaster for us.

Fowler didn't impress at all for Liverpool in his 'final hurrah', where is his motivation to do well for us? There simply isn't one.

There must be a reason why every other Premiership club won't touch him with a barge pole, because any Prem team could have him if they wanted...including Hull and Stoke.

It's an unusual set of circumstances.

Fowler still lives up here, knows the manager, does not need the money or the hassle of moving.

It MAY work out, it may not.

Why not give it a chance?

If a top veteran striker from somewhere like Brazil or Italy came over on trial, hoping to rescue his career for one final season would there be such an outcry?

The manager obviously does and he has more of a feel for what he wants and needs...plus it's HIS neck on the line.

Agreed Nicko, but I don't consider his "neck to be on the line" with regards to the Fowler transfer - As you say, it's relatively low risk.

Friedel on the other hand.....

I think the whole Friedel thing is very strange...that goes without saying.

The timing of Fowler makes it look bad. But the truth is that it is pre-season and he had to come now rather than later. Get on with it.

There will be enough money spent and exciting younger players coming in.

Don't panic or despair.

I can't believe it, this isn't my club and I'm trying to calm the natives...

Pure class this. 20 pages of moaning, reading of the last rites, calling the new manager, betting on Rovers being relegation certs; typical East Lancs doom and gloom all because we're taking an ageing goalscorer to Germany for a week or two.

We've not played a game yet this season have we?. Let's wait and see, eh? If Fowler does turn out to be pants have we lost anything? No. As everyone points out we have 4 other class strikers. If Fowler does a bit then we've done well.

Theno will be laughing into his pint this evening, the messageboard has gone to his way of thinking.

is this any worse than Sparky signing Jeffers ?

Yes. Jeffers had a glimmer of potential left, and Hughes had a record of getting the best out of cast-offs. Didn't work out, but we got cash when we sold him on, didn't we?

Fowler has been past it for years.

Hasn't been any good since his mid 20s.

Isn't good enough for a middling Coca Cola club.

Will probably command no sell-on fee, because nobody else is dumb enough to take him.

Is a party boy who's not going to turn his nose up at free cash from his old pal Ince.

ya big tease !! ;)

I meant Fowler 'if it comes off.'

There are a lot of active moves on just now, people working overtime, and these could be busy days ahead.

There are bound to be teething pains, some naivety and controversial moves in and out.

So be it...it's football.

Like my mate at Burnley is showing, you have to shake it up a bit to make it 'your' team. I praise him for that, so I'm not going to slag Ince for turning things around either.

No there wouldn't because we wouldn't know their career and life story. We know Fowler is as good as washed up in Championship terms nevermind Premiership. If it works Ince will get the credit for it, but as you can see from the reaction of already annoyed fans, after the brad story, the majority think this is a bad move and I haven't had encouraging comments about him from other team fans, including a Cov fan!

It's easier when your not a fan of a club, you can more objectively look at the situation.

Yes! Jeffers was young and worth a punt, rather than a player who has had a couple of chances afte rmajor injuries and just not done anything. If he is on a pay as you score contract then I'll accept it.

Anymore on Castillo? At least if we get him in it may settle things down a little. Who is the third party that 'own' him?

When Hughes brought Bowen in did we question him?

His previous coaching history wasn't exactly glamorous, working for big head.

When Hughes brought Kevin Hitchcock in did we question him?

Don't recall him being a "top" coach before he came to us and his playing history wasn't exactlt top class.

Glynn Hodges???????????

Hughes had the same penchant of jobs for the boys, either playing buddies or those he had worked with for Wales.

Do you think Hughes personally scouted Nelsen, Samba, McCarthy, Bentley and Santa Cruz?

A signing or selling of a player at Rovers is never down to just the manager, he plays a part of course, but not always as much as you may think.

If people want to believe the worst than believe it, you have a 1 in 3 chance of being right, we either struggle next season, consolidate or exceed last years achievements.

For us to finish 7th last season was a truely great achievement in supposedly the best league in the world, to match that again this year would be an even greater achievement in my view.

I agree with some of the sentiments if certain things are true, but until the truth is known and the season is underway I will not write off Ince just yet.

Bowen and Hodges were both highly regarded before they came. Brums demise was put down to Bowen 's departure.

He dosn't need cash free or otherwise from anybody. He owns a significant percentage of Greater Manchester's housing stock.

I will shed a bit more light on that in the paper tomorrow. If it is too complicated for them I will put the details here.

Good tale.

I would not like to unravel it though.

Good Good.

I am kinda hoping for a swift resolution to this one to get him in for the trip to Germany and Portgual. The earlier we get our signings in the better, they will need time to gel together and learn the teams style. That's another reason we shouldn't sell Brad, he knows this team inside out!

No matter how much he's got, I can't imagine him not picking up a £20 note he sees blowing down the street.

(and then rolling it up and ... ahem)

Santa Cruz was a gamble nonetheless.

His CV before he came was probably quite like Fowler's.

EVERY transfer is a risk.

This one is a low-risk. No fee, small-ish wages.

I don't think it will work out in the fullness of time, but I could be proved wrong and would be happy to accept that.

The manager obviously does and he has more of a feel for what he wants and needs...plus it's HIS neck on the line.

One thing is sure, Paul Ince is obviously a strong-minded guy.

Don't like to disagree Nicko but it's his recent CV I'd be looking at!

I think RSC had just stuck an international hat trick in the Concom cup, was 25, fit, and still is 6'4 of mainly muscle. Fowler is 5'7 33, 14st of flab, very unfit and has recently played just 16 games scoring some easy goals in a good footballing side against 3rd rate oposition.

o comparison in my mind.

Just give an exciting target to cheer us up.

He's a goal poacher and doesn't work hard, I agree. But what he should have to make the step back up is motivation. Without it he's definitely finished. I'm not overly excited by this, but it's not like Ince is throwing money away by (possibly) giving Fowler one last chance in the top flight. What really concerns me is if Friedel leaves, but my guess is we won't find a replacement so he'll stay put...beggars can't be choosers after all.

Was a goal poacher mate.
