Mr Creosote Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Maybe someone put all the details in a national newspaper and he read them there? Give it a rest.
tonyoz Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 .I am of the same opinion, some of the performances last season were poor. However, success is my priority, not opening yourself up and conceding a shed load of goals! John, I say have faith in Paul Ince. He took a team that was 7 points adrift ( I think) and went 9 games without defeat.........sounds like he got the defence sorted out? My optimism is based on the theory that if you can motivate a team when they are rock bottom, then you can employ the same skills with better players. Why the hell not?
John Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Lets see. As Ince says, this season is going to be a learning curve.........
cruz Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 On Brad's future I tend to believe this reliable source regarding the club wanting to keep hold of him. If Brad leaves then it is purely his own decision and most likely one born from greed

No point in arguing with some of the Rovers fans on here. They'll be saying how rubbish Paul Ince is and how his backroom staff are crap and soon as we finish 6/7th, them same fans will come out and say "oh I always trusted Incey" !!
tony gale's mic Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 On Brad's future I tend to believe this reliable source over Nicko ........... no offence None of that negates what nicko has been saying.
den Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 The point is Brad WANTS to leave, do you want to deny him a final big pay day after the service he has given us? I would much prefer that my club put the extra millions it will take to replace Brad, towards a new quality midfielder, right back, left winger or striker, - rather than spend it on someone who doesn't need replacing. I'll keep saying this, Ince should tell them all, - this season no-ones leaving
RibbleValleyRover Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 On Brad's future I tend to believe this reliable source over Nicko ........... no offence From that link Williams came out with an interesting sentance: "There is some interest, but Paul Ince's wish is to start the season with Brad Friedel." We don't know what is going on behind the scenes, but could Ince have not guaranteed Brad's future past January?
nicko Posted July 13, 2008 Author Posted July 13, 2008 Nicko - so it seems Brad is on his way to Villa? When you say City have no money, how can that be? I'm not sure about Friedel, is he really that good? Or do you guys just have such affection for him? A three year contract for a 37 year old doesn't sound right to me. Play until he's 40? Man City are not awash with cash. Signing Brad Friedel right now would need a £2.5 million fee plus a three-year contract probably worth around £8 million. City will NOT reach those levels. You may not know but City had to BORROW money to pay for your old manager and his staff. Most of the deals they do and will do are on HP terms that you would scarcely believe. If the Thai gets jailed put money on them self-destructing.

I would come out and say i was happy i was proven wrong and hold my hands up.

If Brad leaves then it is purely his own decision and most likely one born from greed Your 'reliable' source quotres are from yesterday morning's paper. I think you will find my info is right.
tony gale's mic Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 If the Thai gets jailed put money on them self-destructing. What are the chances of that happening?
tonyoz Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 No point in arguing with some of the Rovers fans on here. 0 Not really arguing. Everybody on here is good people............just trying to express the positive viewpoint........it does exist you know!
nicko Posted July 13, 2008 Author Posted July 13, 2008 Forget Castillo if this is true http://www.people.co.uk/sport/football/tm_...-name_page.html We should stay well clear of this deal if there is an issue of ownership. That's my story with someone else's name on by mistake. It is a complicated one as I said last week. I don't think there will ever be a £6 million fee paid for him, but there is a live interest in him - if the price is lower.
nicko Posted July 13, 2008 Author Posted July 13, 2008 What are the chances of that happening? Shinwatra is on trial right now. If he is jailed and his assets stay frozen there is going to be an awful knock-on effect for Man City. Football is just a little crazy at the moment.
RibbleValleyRover Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 That's my story with someone else's name on by mistake. It is a complicated one as I said last week. I don't think there will ever be a £6 million fee paid for him, but there is a live interest in him - if the price is lower. Ok well thanks for the update Nicko on Castillo. I just wondering if its worth pursuing considering all the rules and regulations there are concerning third party ownership. It could be more trouble than its worth.
Iceman Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 And hear i thought goalkeepers, can play til at least 40.at 37,friedel is stil very much in the game.
nicko Posted July 13, 2008 Author Posted July 13, 2008 Ok well thanks for the update Nicko on Castillo. I just wondering if its worth pursuing considering all the rules and regulations there are concerning third party ownership. It could be more trouble than its worth. It depends on the cost. I know a lot of DVDs have been watched and football people contacted about him before the call was made by the manager to find out if it could be done. It is a minefield, but if it worked out cheap-ish then it might be worth doing. Wigan had the same trouble with Valencia, signed him eventually and he has done well and is valued at TWICE what they paid for him. There are not many good players readily available, so sometimes you have to look far and wide.
BuckyRover Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 It is the basics of football sadly that if you are not collectively strong as a team, then you cannot always play 'attacking football'. Only a few teams can do that. Usually the ones with the greater resources. I am of the same opinion, some of the performances last season were poor. However, success is my priority, not opening yourself up and conceding a shed load of goals! Success and not conceeding a shed load of goals. Larissa Coventry Wigan (away) Very successful, what a great season we had. Come back Hughes!
tonyoz Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Nicko, you are back. Has Freidel asked to leave or not? Do you know?
RibbleValleyRover Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 I'm assuming we are also looking at some attacking midfielders as well as Castillo sounds a more defensive or box-to-box midfielder?
nicko Posted July 13, 2008 Author Posted July 13, 2008 Nicko, you are back. Has Freidel asked to leave or not? Do you know? Brad doesn't have to ask for a move. I think it is a mature relationship between him and his bosses. Once Rovers have sorted out a replacement, which will possibly be very soon, then he will go.
nicko Posted July 13, 2008 Author Posted July 13, 2008 I'm assuming we are also looking at some attacking midfielders as well as Castillo sounds a more defensive or box-to-box midfielder? Castillo is a get-about-the-park midfielder who can score too. He is on the 'hot' list at the moment but I know of at least two alternatives to him who are being looked into. It's the same with right backs. There will be four or five watched shortly. The keeper thing will be sorted...and obviously there is the Bentley issue. I think they are looking at possible right wingers but won't go in until Emerton gets a game or two to impress. If you get enough for Bentley you could buy a right winger anyway...and let him compete with Emerton.
tonyoz Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Please expand on what "a mature relationship" means. Are we at the stage where we say "You are a legend Brad, you deserve this last big payday. Go with our best wishes."
