67splitscreen Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 If this deal has been on the boil for a couple of weeks, as nico states. Is Robinson, the flip side of the coin, with bentley going to spuds.
nicko Posted July 13, 2008 Author Posted July 13, 2008 paul robinson is a decent keeper-hes had a bad year i admit but maybe a move will help him.. how much roughly is his price?? Spurs want £5 million, but I think it will probably get done at around £4 million. As I say, that part has to be fixed - along with his wages which are quite high. But he does want to move, so he may even take a cut.
doctorryan Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 From what I can gather: We're paying Brad roughly £30-35k/week and Villa's offering £70/week. Alan? This is a mistake. For Christ's sake JW, just pay the man. We'll be better off in the long run. If we owe Brad £2.6m over the next 2 years then the difference is £5.4 with an additional season. Between the value of places in the table and the cost of a replacement I can't see it being of any more value to the club's bottom line to avoid paying the additional salary and risk lesser results with a more expensive (transfer) replacement than it would be to continue with him at the higher rate. It would also buy us more time to find a SUITABLE replacement.
thenodrog Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Robbie Fowler - We haven't signed the guy yet, and if we do, so what? I'll give you this question, there's 10 minutes left we're 1-0 down to Man Utd, we have one sub left and bring on a striker. You have a straight choice, Roberts or Fowler? ... try and tell me he can't still finish. Roberts all the way. Any Prem CH will likely tell you the same too.
nicko Posted July 13, 2008 Author Posted July 13, 2008 What is the current record fee paid for a 37 year old ? Will this be history ? Probably.
Beta Ray Bill Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 I am telling you where the thing is at. You can like it or lump it. I know my sources on this and have spelled things out more than I need to. You seem to miss the point that in the big picture there is always movement, this is not a still life painting. You have had the facts - which some would still love to dispute. 1 - Villa want to buy Brad, 2 - the personal deal they are offering is so great that he will go and 3 - Rovers are now closing in on the replacement after going through the options for the past couple of weeks. If that's not enough for you I will attempt to find out what Incey had for breakfast. Ha! Ha! You seem to miss the point that regardless of what you say on here, if the deal doesn't come off then you have plenty of backup avenues of why it's not, it was true all along etc. I am not doubting you believe what you write. I am not doubting you have sources. But why are your stories so much more infalliable than any other journo?
nicko Posted July 13, 2008 Author Posted July 13, 2008 From what I can gather: We're paying Brad roughly £30-35k/week and Villa's offering £70/week. Alan? I think those figures may be a bit high.
incy wincy little spider Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 IF its purely financial i would have thought a testimonial would have made up the difference. If we bought robinson 2 years ago we would be happier. Just that hes not infashion right now, so we get him cheaper. Think this is a good transfer policy. Weve bought a few out of fashion players recently and they turned out well. Chin up
Solberto Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Bear in mind that Villa are offering Brad a THREE-YEAR deal at big money...he is only at Rovers for two more and on lesser money. Yes, but cant we offer Brad a three-year deal as well, with higher wages.
gowdym_940 Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 paul robinsons confidence taken away by the media, your having a laugh . his confidence was low because he was playing #

thenodrog Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 This summer is potentially turning into a joke. I'm not finding it all that funny.
nicko Posted July 13, 2008 Author Posted July 13, 2008 Yes, but cant we offer Brad a three-year deal as well, with higher wages. You could, but you haven't and you probably won't.
Iceman Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Mr Nixon,i think mrs nixon should keep u busy this whole week.maybe paint the house,do some gardening just so that it can calm down a bit on here.im surprised Theno is in a better mood today.sum good news that at least hahaha
Amo Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 I don't think Robinson is a bad goalkeeper, but a lack of confidence is decisive in a goalkeeper. Like someone else said, perhaps out of the media spotlight he would return to the form that made him England No.1. Of course it would sad to see Friedel go, but I don't think he is indispensable.
Hughesy Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Has Ben Foster been considered? Would be good but expensive im sure.
Iceman Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Nicko any developments this week, with regards to any takeover news?
67splitscreen Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Nicko. Is Robinson going to be part of the Bentley deal.
imy9 Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 The thinking is probably: Brad- £2.5 million Robinson- £4 million- (same wages as Brad now- hopefully!) -£1.5 mill However we would have to pay Big Brad for THREE years, which would amount to an additional £20K a week for three years thats around £3 million too, so essentially we could be £1.5 million BETTER off, with a younger International Keeper. Could be a blessing in disguise as I have said earlier. Nicko- any chance Rovers are planning to include Bentley in any deal now?
thenodrog Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 http://www.phuketgazette.net/news/index.asp?id=6630 The way this close seasons going '4000 Holes' should change it's name to 'The Phuket Gazette'!
Ricky Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 I'm happy with Robinson if he does come in. It would be a very similar situation to the one we found ourselves in when we signed Friedel. I'd love to read back and see what people said at that stage as I'm sure 90% of posters were against it. We had a decent keeper in Filan and people felt Friedel wasn't needed and he certainly wasn't wanted. His confidence was low and he looked very questionable in all areas at Liverpool. He'd become something of a laughing stock between their fans at that stage and they certainly didn't want him anywhere near their team. It's all very similar now, I don't think it would be a bad thing at all, Brad wasn't quite so solid last year (He was still very very good but not the Superman of previous seasons) I started to worry more on Free Kicks as he had a knack of taking a step across his goal (towards the side the wall was covering) and then found himself stranded and not able to get back across to make the save. Villa away rtings a bell but it certainly wasn't the only time. Players come and go and I cant believe the over reaction of some on here. Reterning Season Tickets before a ball has been kicked... get a grip for goodness sake. Back the manager and back the players. Lets not get on their backs before the season has even started. Don't forget, Football ls a game of two halves....... blue and white!!!!!
Hasta Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Fowler- has NOT signed, he is the best striker of his generation on a potential pay as you play- costing us what? COuldn't even get a regular start in the England side. Fowlers generation included Shearer and Owen in my eyes.
imy9 Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Good post- I seem to remember Blues away. last game of the season, Big Brad was dire. The man is a legend but you cannot let sentiment get in the way of change.
