Last year he managed Getafe, tipped for relegation but finished a respectable 14th with them, got to the QFs of the UEFA cup and the final of the Spanish Cup.

Hang about, if you're going to start chucking stats about, Laudrup took a side that had finished 9th in La Liga in the previous two seasons into 14th.

Plus, they also reached the Spanish Cup Final the season before he took over as well.

Not that impressive viewed in that context is it?

Haven't looked up Brondby's history but I wouldn't be surprised if they are a big fish in a small pond over there.

EDIT: Just had a quick look on Wikipedia - Brondby have won ten Championships and five Cups since being formed in 1981 and never finished outside the top 2 domestically between 1995 and 2006. Either them or Copenhagen have won eleven out of the last 16 Championships. Sounds a bit like a Celtic/Rangers situation.

Laudrup took over at Getafe from Bernd Schuster who currently manages Real - Schuster got the job due to how well he did at Getafe in fact. It could be said that Laudrup just over what Schuster had started and did it worse.

No huge loss in not getting Laudrup I feel - especially if his clauses and concerns are true.

I now think that Ince is probably the best appointment.

The king is dead. Long live the king!

Getafe's previous manager was Bernt Schuster - current Real Madrid manager. It's fair to say theyve been pretty lucky with their managers lately, including Laudrup.

And MK Dons had by far the most resources at that level too.

You can't compare achievements at the highest level with achievements at (literally if we're talking in professional terms) the lowest level. You're pitting your wits against better tacticians, dealing with better players, bigger egos, bigger setups etc.

I really hope Ince does well and he hasnt had any failures yet, but as I said you're simply wrong if you're saying their records are remotely comparable.

I'm not sure if this has been covered, but surely part of JW's calculation is the reaction of the current playing staff, and it has been mentioned (via a drunken chat with Dunn?) that an English manager is their preference. Brad's intervention may have been more than a personal view and he might have been acting as the player's Shop Steward, so to speak.

Laudrup is a very attractive option, but this appointment is not just a case of look at the CVs and choose. There are many other factors to consider, which is what JW is paid his condsiderable income for.

Might I make an appeal: let's not mention race cards, positive discrimination and so on. Ince's colour will have played no part in his appointment by the Rovers' Board.

You might know that the race card has nothing to do with it. I don't think it has either but the press are already milking it. Read the article in today's Mirror by his mate, Darren. I just hope they get over it soon and leave the guy, if he is to be Rovers' manager to get on with the very difficult job he's got himself into.

How do we define a top Spanish club ?

Barca, Real Madrid or Villareal would be the top 3. I dont see them three knocking doors down for his signature.

As for the others I dont see them bigger than Rovers.

Are we going to attract anybody who the top 3 spanish clubs will knock down doors for?!

I can tell you something - more clubs would knock down doors to sign Laudrup than they would Ince if we're using that criteria.

Still - what's done is done and let's hope that Ince vindicates JW's faith in him.

I know Billic isnt in it for the money but surely we should be making a big effort to try and persuade him now Croatia are out....... would be great to get a high profile manager in

Come the start of the season no-one will remember who Laudrup was...

Oh silly nicko, if we start poorly there will be a plethora of Rovers fans who "wanted" Laudrup, we won't be allowed to forget who he is.

It's just too much of a gamble for a manager that doesn't have the experience, coaching staff and let alone badges.

Wasn't a problem when you were wanting Shearer, why should it be now? Great appointment IMHO, but given MY track record there is good reason to be worried

I think the script was written on here about half-time on Wednesday night.

If thats the case then Williams MUST be having serious second thoughts about the popularity of his man and about himself if BRFC nose dive under Ince. Laudrup's name will be JW's own personal Sword of Damocles. Alternatively if Laudrup comes and bombs then he Williams will not be villified to anything like the same extent. Appointing a man that 90% of fans are against will carry one hell of a big personal risk for an employee of BRFC.

I remember reading on a number of occasions in the press that rovers mirrored hughes style of play.

If thats the case with Ince then god help us!!

Dunno if this has been linked anywhere but never mind Ince lets go for Big Dunc. :o

Absolutely effortless.

the first five or six games will be crucial for Ince. sadly for him he will be under pressure from the start.

onwards and upwards!

I'd love to know what this "plan" is though. Is it Inces or a combined effort with JW? are the first years consolidation and rebuilding, or are we pushing for europe?

imo if its the former that is unacceptable for a club that has achieved what we have in the past three years

Would you rather have Ince the player on your side or against you?

I rem going to OT (1-1 Schmeical coming up for that late corner and fouling everyone) and I can assure you alan that Paul Ince pulled out of every tackle with David Batty. :rover:

Looks like same old same old with Laudrup unfortunately:

"Michael Laudrup, the former Getafe coach, had given the position serious consideration but it is understood that his contract demands - he wanted release clauses built in that would allow him to move to a top Spanish club - made Blackburn uncomfortable, and that Laudrup got cold feet about Blackburn's ability to compete in the transfer market."

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/main.jhtm...1/sfnbla121.xml

:(

Did you see what they did with that article. Chalked off each of the runners to make it look like Ince is last man standing and we have no choice but to appoint him!!

Some might have doubts about Ince, but you can't argue that he hasn't been chosen after carefull consideration by the board.

GGRRRRRR! Typical journo slant to make us look bad.
