Still can't believe we are paying £2.5m and 50k a week for Brad Friedel, a 37 year old. This tv deal (and a billionaire owner) has done funny things to football.

Get a grip MancVillan!!

Super Brad is worth it.

Great Keeper

Great Leader

Iron Horse (I think over his whole Blackburn career he's probably only missed 3 games through injury)

Looking forward to it. Really hope we get Bentley aswel. Our midfield would be fantastic then imo. Flippin' Spurs, they've got about 3 midfields already!

Good and Bad... Mostly bad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCPENC8LwCA

...no it wasn't mostly bad. It looked to me as though it showed him pulling of 4 brilliant saves and scoring 2 goals, and showed him making a total of 4 mistakes. The first of which I believe many keepers have made, and many more will follow suit. I remember a similar situation with another goalkeeper. Former goalkeepers were quizzed on the situation and they all said something along the lines of "i'd have done the same, in a position like that you prepare yourself for a cross." He did quite well to get a hand to it if you ask me.

The second - he was slow to react, i'm sure there's countless times that's happened and it will happen again, not just to him.

The third - I saw Friedel do at the beginning of last season.

The fourth - Is just unfortunate, it was a mistake although very much out of his hands. But all I need to say is Tim Flowers, Liverpool, Stan Collymore.

I'm not trying to say Robinson is better than Friedel, or anything like such. I just feel the guys coming under some unfair criticism.

No offence RFUK, but that link isn't mostly bad at all, you're just leading with your biased opinion of him. Which is fair enough as we all do it.

No offence, but im not being biased at all...

If he was playing like he did at Leeds before he joined Spuds, i would be all for it! However i saw him playing allot for Spurs in the 1st half of last season, and he was dreadfull, very uncertain, panicy and sloppy in his area.

When challenged for his goalkeeping jersey, he just didnt do anything to get it back! This i find very worrying...

I think we can do better then him for the money being mooted... Thats all...

Well what's to say we can't get him playing like he did at Leeds, he played well for Spurs until that bad patch of form.

Our whole back line was dreadful, uncertain, panicy and sloppy for much of the first half of the season.

Is it quite possible Ramos doesn't like him?

And you are being biased, 6 good points to 4 bad points isn't "mostly bad" at all.

A bad patch of form thats lasted a year! This is what worries me...

It is quite possible that Ramos doesnt like him, but people were calling for him to be dropped whilst Jol was still in charge!

As for the good points and bad points. I wouldnt call scoring 2 goals over 5 years good points, one of them was flukey and the other was followed by the worst season of his career, playing for Leeds in the prem conceeding 80 odd goals in 35 odd games if i remember correctly...

I still maintain that for the money we could do allot better!

Hi guys, I been away for a week and just not inclined to read through all the 40+ pages in this thread.

Can anyone tell me if there's anything into the rumours linking us to Pennant and Joaquin i saw at football365?

Thanks.

Interesting.i seem to remember the likes of cassilas, buffon, khan, and alot of top top keepers making school boy errors, having a bad season,or bad spell at some point in a season.the key word is "confidence" and "motivation"those are important for a keeper.this Robinson lad,ive seen and ive seen his confidence shattered by coaches who were unable to motivate him enough to get back to his best.u must have done something right to have become Englands number 1

Casillas even spent a whole season in the middle of his career on the bench because cesar (if im not mistaken) was prefered. He wouldnt have played had it not been for an injury to Cesar in the final of the CL. He still turned out ''ok'' i guess

Wouldnt mind Robinson here though.

Im a keeper, and all it takes to get Robinson back to his best,is a change of club.with a new club,he will be able to motivate himself to prove his doubters wrong.imo he has done more things right, than wrong.i wouldnt be disappointed to see him at rovers to be quite honest.it is a bit early to talk of a replacement for Brad,as he hasnt left the club.its all speculation at this point in time.

He played better during his early time with Spurs than he did for Leeds.

Last season he was bad, by his own admission and was rightly dropped, but to suggest that he has become an awful player over 6 months is ludicrous.

£4m for an international goalkeeper, and that is what he is he just has to discover his form again, is a snip. Not many keepers are sold in their prime and so it's difficult to get a grasp of figures but I think you would struggle to find many good keepers being sold that cheap. It's more down to Ramos not rating the guy that he is so cheap and as we all know from Brad and Samba, players other managers don't rate can be very useful for us.

Nicko - any news on the 'other name' you mentioned for the right wing spot, or is that still on the hush?

What I want to know is when will someone say"Enough is enough". One of Friedel, santa cruz or Bentley we could cope with. we'd sort of accepted a while ago that Bentley would go anyway, so that was hardly a surprise. But all three if today's reports are to be believed. I've read all the friedel discussion, and I still can't see why, if robinson is potentially as good as some of his apologists believe him to be, MON doesn't just cut out the middle man and take robinson himself. Perhaps because he knows he isn't that good. Why are we looking at selling Bentley to spurs, who are a club on our level. Why would we than even consider selling Santa cruz to them as well? And before you jump on my back anyone, I know this is just newspaper speculation, but we seem to be finding recently that if they speculate enough it's because there's something in it or it takes on a life of its own because it's repeated often enough. All we hear from the club is "We want to hold onto our best players" whilst behind the scenes they seem to be doing their best to sell most of them. It's all well and good Nicko telling us that there is some good stuff in the pipeline. I think we need convincing about that and soon. At the moment, and I stress at the moment, it is a rotten time to be a Rovers fan.

Robinson at his best isn't as good as Friedel its as simple as that.

It looks like we are going to have to accept that we are going to seriously weaken ourselves and at the same time strengthen what were at one point considered rivals for the Uefa cup spots. It sends out the wrong signals in my view, its a backward step.

I don't get it, why are people so against Robinson on the basis that he isn't liked at Spurs and that no one else appears to be that interested in him. That pretty much describes every player we have signed over the past few years.

Edit - That doesn't mean that every player who is out of favour and form is a good signing, but it just doesn't mean that you should think he's a bad player simply because he isn't the flavour of the month.

Robinson at 27 is better than Friedel was at 27.

I can't remember his last good performance and he costs a lot for a player who hasn't been in a first team place for ages. I know he's a lot younger than Friedel which is why I'm not screaming from the rooftops or anything but I still don't see how it's the best deal we can get. I do know there appears to be a shortage of good keepers around not only in our league but I've not been impressed by the ones I've seen in the French league either. But surely we can find better than robinson for the price we appear to be about to pay, if the fee being discussed so far is true.
