Think of it this way.

If we were to get Friedel to sign a new deal on £50k for 3 years it would work out as shown.

£2,600,000 extra £25k for 2 years

£2,600,000 extra 1 year at 50k

So £5,200,000 in wages extra than currently planned.

£2,500,000 transfer fee = £7.7m

So we could lose out on an extra £7.7m on a 37 year old, that could quite easily get an injury or two over the next season or two and could also slow him down considerably.

If we can get Robinson at 9 years younger for say £1-1.5m more and on the same £25k wages then we don’t lose £7.7m over the next 2 years. We could also potentially have an England keeper on our hands with 10 years or so still to go in his career.

I've heard all that and I don't deny it but to get anything out of the deal we have to get the guy fit, to lose about a stone and then get him playing well. We were good at that sort of thing but how do we know the new regime will be. seems a very high risk deal to me, and coupled with the other potential players leaving, seems like bad news upon bad news.

But surely we can find better than robinson for the price we appear to be about to pay, if the fee being discussed so far is true.

I don't know what the exact fee for Robinson is, or what he would be valued at as part of a swap involving Bentley.

4m for a 28 yearold keeper who has forty odd caps fopr England seems an absolute snip to me though. Would have expected to have to pay a lot more for him.

Brad is what? 37? age is going to catch up with him pretty soon, whatever we might hope. Robbinson is a good keeper, although his long range shot stopping is suspect, but then again Brad's defending of freekicks is suspect.

They all have flaws

Why? Spurs want to get rid of him apparently so why should we pay more to take a player off their hands who is surplus to requirements. You pay top prices when clubs don't want to lose players. As you say and has been said often, we don't know what the fee is, but I just hope it isn't much at all.

I'm sure JW will be pushing the price down as low as he can for Robinson. He's not needed at Spurs so I'm sure we're in a good position to get a good deal. It's a good time to grab him as his stock is low, can you imagine what price they would have wanted for him 18 months ago when he was established as England's number 1. We wouldn't have stood a chance.

These are the markets we thrive in, players who are out of form and struggling to get games elsewhere. I'm sure Robinson would see it as an attractive move as well.

I 100% agree. Big Sam got old players, our niche can be out of form younger players with potential to be great again

Official text says we've just signed Nigel Winterburn as Defensive coach.

And we was afraid of the huge backroom staff that Big Fat Sam was planning to bring in? Soon Ince have more members in his backroom staff than in his playing staff

I'd never seen old Winterburn as a coach, has he actually done any coaching after he retired? I know he's been a pundit sometimes.

Looking forward to the defense standing there with their hands in the air.

Maybe that will help Benni understand the offside rule in training? ;)

I honestly thought that was a joke.

But I thought the same about Fowler and Brad so I guess it fits...

Ah well at least it's interesting.

I wish there was something new to tell you...but you had it late last night.

Today will be about sorting out fees, so there won't be any extra news on the Bentley-Robinson-Friedel thing until that is sorted.

As for other potential targets, there might be more later. I think it's about to get busy all round.

By the way, Robbie Fowler has been at training and seems to be mixing very well...now let's see if he is fit.
