There's the manager, then the goal-keeping coach, a defensive coach, a massuer, a fitness coach, an assistant fitness coach, an assistant manager, a first-team manager ...

Is that all or is there more, I've really lost track?

It begs the question what the hell does the manager do. He can't do any coaching, surely?

It brings to mind the phrase "Too many cooks spoil the broth."

I'm willing to give Ince a chance, but I'm a bit perplexed so far.

If i was a betting man i would bet that a Striker/Forward coach will be coming in next.

And we was afraid of the huge backroom staff that Big Fat Sam was planning to bring in? Soon Ince have more members in his backroom staff than in his playing staff

I'd never seen old Winterburn as a coach, has he actually done any coaching after he retired? I know he's been a pundit sometimes.

Maybe that will help Benni understand the offside rule in training? ;)

From what I can tell this will be Winterburn's first coaching appointment. Certainly, well qualified in terms of playing experience but it will be interesting what impact he has on the players as a coach. I have to agree with regard to the comment on Allardyce. We have a larger coaching staff than ever and there is still a gap at reserve team level.

I like it. Why shouldn't you have specialised coaches? Very few managers do any coaching. Hughes certainly didn't. I hope Ince is involved in some of the things with the midfielders and maybe one or two other things, but it's good to have someone with either a large amount of coaching or playing experience working with the players on important things.

Sick and tired of some people on this board.

Those that are criticising the whole Friedel & Robinson debate, just answer a few questions for me.

What do we do in 2/3 years time when Brad hangs up his gloves? (dont reply with "find a better keeper than robinson" because what if we can't, will you have a go at Ince saying you should've gone for Robinson 2/3 years back?)

Would you rather have a 27yr old keeper who has been proven in the premiership, and played for England (so cant be sh!t) and play with us for a good 10 more years or a Brad Friedel thats going to perform at his best for another 2years max?

Its time to let the Big American leave, he's given us some wonderful times and im sure we've done the same for Brad. Brad wants Big final pay day and after all them times he's made us happy do you fans actually want to deny him that?

No matter how much he goes for and no matter when he leaves the fact is Brad gave 110% at each game. Whenever that final whistle blew no matter how crap our performance was he was always there to applaud us fans. At the start and end of every game at Ewood the first and last chant we would hear is " Friedel Friedel".

Brad may go but no one will ever replace the love us rovers fans had for him! Maybe a new keeper will come upon us but the fact is when he has that Rovers badge on his shirt and wears it with pride, I and hopefully most Rovers fans will back him just as we did with Brad. Hopefully in 10 years time Robinson will be up there with the likes of Friedel.

As long as they're are a Rovers player I shall back him, just like I'll back Ince.

Up the Rovers!!

Some good points but I think it's the unseemly haste with which Ince is shoving long serving, fans favourite Freidel out the door that grates with most people. Sure Villa may now be coming in with a huge offer but imo Freidel was off to City anyway and as a result of past history rather than his issues with his ability or value to the team.

Let me caveat what I'm about to type with I've been a fan of Winterburn in the past. Always struck as a proper defender, and an upright kind of guy.

But my question is again.. has he done his badges? Because I've had a quick look on the net and didnt seem to find any information that suggests that he has... I know that there is not always a relation between paper qualifications, experience and ability to deliver as a coach. But i'm very concerned that we've seemingly gone from an extremely qualified to an extremely unqualified, third rate, backroom. Even my liverpool supporting mate has texted me, and i quote verbatim "what the hell is going on with Blackburn? Why all the 3rd class staff??"

havent we lost a number of coaches to Citeh, therefore shouldnt we be replacing them?

Also can we have a free kick and a corner coach, to help the players NOT HIT THE SODDING FIRST MAN EVERY RUDDY TIME.

Thankyou :)

Let me get this straight am I right in thinking that this Friedel/Robinson/Bentley merry go round with leave us with a worse goalie and just £5.5m for our trouble????

If Arsenal get 50% of the fee and we are saying the Bentley deal is worth 17m then we only get £8m, £5m of which goes on Robinson. 2.5m back from Friedel and we're left with just £5.5m to replace Bentley and have an inferior keeper to boot!

I am not happy at all about this!!! Please someone tell me I've added something up wrong here!!!

Sounds about right. i'm not getting into doing the maths because we'll never know the ins and outs of it but nobody is happy. Not really. Some are putting a brave face on it. Some are seeing the very slightest positives in the situations developing. One or two may genuinely still be happy. But the majority of us just think What the heck is going on and why?

Because ... the whole team works as a unit. What does it say that we now have a specialised defensive coach, alongside an assistant manager and a first team coach? Are they incapable of coaching our defenders? Do UEFA badges not cover defensive coaching?

Why is it that most teams don't have a specialist defensive coach? The defence don't play separately to the rest of the team ... you defend as a unit. so why take a bits and pieces approach?

It's just my opinion. It may well turn out to be a visionary, inspirational move ... or just a waste of resources, we'll see. In the words of John Lennon: "All we are saying, is give Ince a chance"

The only precedents I can think of is Keegan bringing in lawrenson I think it was as "Defensive Coach" and the american guy who owned Chester thinking he could take an american football approach, appointed himself manager and he appointed coaches for goalies, defence, midfield and attack. They promptly fell to bits. So ... not too promising then.

No.

Bentley = Robinson + 12/13ish (we pay 7 to Arsenal)

Friedel = 2.5ish

We've been smart though. We've gone public and set the fee at 17 million but don't have to sell, meaning that we are in a position to turn the screw a bit on the valuation of Robinson or any other player.

Lets just say this, being Ince's appointment and the ensuing decisions by the new management, is possibly one of the riskiest choices Blackburn Rovers have taken and judgment should be reserved until we see the outcome. Im not too optimistic but I am ready to be proven wrong with time. If I am not, God help us and our Premier League existence...

If Bentley is valued at 17m in the deal then Arsenal will want 50% of our profit (half of 14m, i.e. 7m) IF there is a sell on clause of that magnitude.

If Robinson is valued at 4m in part ex, then we'll clear 6m in theory. Possibly enough for Pennant. Then we would get 2.5m for Brad on top.

Bentley and Friedel out, the sell on clause wiped out, Robinson and Pennant in, 2.5m profit.

If it has to happen it's arguably very good business.

Although if DB has to go I'd rather have Lennon that Pennant personally.
