thenodrog Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 I look forward to seeing who we are looking at, based on Nicko's words... Better change this thread title to 'The Pied Piper of Partick'. Didn't the sound of the pipes in that story mesmerise the kids but leave the adults completely unaffected?
krislu Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 So Winterburn in as defensive coach, does he have any coaching expirience? I guess it can't be worse than what we did had because our defense was all over the place last season.
RevidgeBlue Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 I think it's the unseemly haste with which Ince is shoving long serving, fans favourite Freidel out the door that grates with most people. He isn't! Normally you're rightly of the view that money talks and players are a mercenary set of hired hands who follow the scent of the wonga.* However because it's Ince you seem to be now pretending that this suddenly isn't the case and are using this as another stick to try and beat him with. * I don't class Brad in that bracket whatever happens. Who could blame him for taking up an offer like that at this late stage of his career.
tony gale's mic Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 Bentley and Friedel out, the sell on clause wiped out, Robinson and Pennant in, 2.5m profit. If it has to happen it's arguably very good business. Two of our most important players out, two inferior players in, and a small profit, which Hughes may have used extremely wisely, but most managers can't buy very much with. Excellent business, I agree.
Bobby G Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 Putting things in persepective in terms of importance of players to our lineup and for sure Bentley, Friedel and Roque will be the top three. If we lose one of them its a blow, lose two and then we must bring in some damn good replacements, but if we lose all of them, then seriously its alarms ringing and I agree with tony gale's mic about getting the inferior players. Also whats to stop others following suit now that they see how easily we "open the way" for anyone who wants to leave to leave.
Amo Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 Yeah, we should be going all out to keep ahold of our best slaves!

Excellent business, I agree. Well, if DB wants out, (which he did before Ince arrived) and BF can't ignore the terms on offer, maybe we're better taking a pragmatic approach. I don't agree Robinson is inferior to Brad looking at the big picture beyond the next few months. Pennant/Lennon are probably better/more highly rated than Bentley was at the point he arrived. We probably can't afford to spend 13m on a direct replacement for DB if we were daft enough to agree to a 50% sell on clause when he arrived. If that happened, the damage is already done but we have to make the best of things now.

It never entered my head that Friedel would leave a few weeks ago but my over-riding thought was simply that RSC must stay. Edit: In fact my view was that Friedel, Samba, Warnock, RSC and Derbyshire had to stay, the rest I wasn't too bothered about if they left for good money. Now it might be happening, I think Friedel out Robinson in makes good long term sense.
Lurid Coat Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 On a non-Brad/Bentley/Robinson note: Everton are interested in Switzerland right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner, who would available from French club Lille for about £700,000. (Daily Mirror) !!!! Being a big fan of Swiss football (don't ask, please!), I've seen this guy play quite a lot, and I've been thoroughly impressed by this young fella. Solid in the European Championships as well. I don't know why on earth he's available for a microscopic fee like this, but we should by all means try to swoop for him!

Looks like Ince is showing all the hallmarks of being at least as good as Hughes in the wheeler dealer stakes
Dave S Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 So how many coaches is that we have now? Surely our backroom team is in the double figures?! Looking at backroom staff. OUT Hughes Bowen Niedzwicki Hitchcock Hodges Roden Rigg Don't know of any others IN Ince Mathias Robinson Russell Tuttle Seeley Knox Howard Steele Whitbread Winterburn Don't ask me what they all do.

Looks like Ince is showing all the hallmarks of being at least as good as Hughes in the wheeler dealer stakes Or put another way, has one of the best goal keepers in the prem ever been sold for £2.5m? If they only get 2 seasons out of him at current form they have already won in my book. OK so you could argue that Brad wants to get his last pay day and we can't match it but If I was Williams I'd be promising Brad more than a boost to his pay packet. basically I'd give him a lifetime job at the club as GK coach and possible manager.
brfc4ever Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 I think at least four of them make the teas. Ha ha ha Its a tough job but somebody has to do it. Regarding Bentley and sell on clause. Where did that 50 % business come from ? I dont think I've ever heard of a 50 % sell on clause. Sounds way too high.

Has it been confirmed anywhere that Tuttle and Seeley have joined the club? I thought Whitbread had been made chief scout and not Tuttle.

Lichtsteiner has one year left on his contract at Lille and the fee is low...Everton have spoken to him but have yet to fully commit to the transfer.

How have they won? In two years time we will have a 29 year old Robinson and no need to spend a fortune on another keeper. It's not rocket science. Sentimentality is not a reason for keeping Friedel. If he wants to stay he can do, yet it appears he wants to leave. (Contrary to the thenodrogs twisted version of events, I don't imagine that Ince is packing his bags for him)

Dave S Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 Has it been confirmed anywhere that Tuttle and Seeley have joined the club? I thought Whitbread had been made chief scout and not Tuttle. It was in the Mirror on the 27th June. Could be wrong but MK Dons website reported that they had left with Ince. Why would they just quit?

(Contrary to the thenodrogs twisted version of events, I don't imagine that Ince is packing his bags for him) If Villa get 2 seasons out of Friedel on current form he will have easily earned more than £2.5m for them (or us if he were to stay) and I honestly believe that's the amount of points/games won Freidel is worth over and above Robinson/Carson. And why would we have to spend "a fortune" on a nother keep4er in 2 years time. If Villa can get the quality of Brad for £2.5 I'd certainly pay it if I were them.....
Shevchenko Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 havent we lost a number of coaches to Citeh, therefore shouldnt we be replacing them? Also can we have a free kick and a corner coach, to help the players NOT HIT THE SODDING FIRST MAN EVERY RUDDY TIME. Thankyou Simple, let someone else than MGP take corners from now on. There, can I have the job now?
Dave S Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 Looking at backroom staff. OUT Hughes Bowen Niedzwicki Hitchcock Hodges Roden Rigg Don't know of any others IN Ince Manager Mathias Assistant Manager Robinson Coach Russell Fitness Coach Tuttle Scout Seeley Masseur Knox First team coach Howard Fitness coach Steele Goalkeeping coach Whitbread Chief scout Winterburn Defensive coach I think. Somone correct me if poss.
leftfooter Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 Nigel Piggin' Winterburn - where's he been lately? Why the small town negativity? Why the need to greet each development so churlishly? After years at Wimbledon and Arsenal, Worthington could drill a defence in his sleep. I sometimes wonder at the motives of some on here.
leftfooter Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 Some good points but I think it's the unseemly haste with which Ince is shoving long serving, fans favourite Freidel out the door that grates with most people. Sure Villa may now be coming in with a huge offer but imo Freidel was off to City anyway and as a result of past history rather than his issues with his ability or value to the team. That's football.
