Friedel has been superb, but you never know how long a keeper will last. I would have had no worries about him next season - or probably the one after.

Robinson has gone off spectacularly, but was a very good keeper as a younger man. It's a repair job and he needs to improve both physically and mentally t5o get back to where he was. But if the price is right it's a gamble worth taking.

If I could think of a better one I would suggest it.

You never know who's watching...

Wayne Hennessey and Stipe Pletikosa are keepers i would look at IF the big man were to leave.

I think Winterburn is a good appointment, Tony Adams has done some decent things with Pompy's defence so hopefully Winterburn can do the same.

Nicko's thread is very tangled up here. Could we have Nicko sub threads mods?

eg:

- Nicko's Friedel Thread

- Nicko's Bentley (and and his 'Replacement Thread')

- Nicko on Robbo's Thread

- Nicko's next 'attacking midfield' thread

- Nicko's Guess the 'next coach to arrive thread'

- Nicko's Tips of the Day thread

- Nicko on the Dingles thread

oh and

Nicko on the Takeover thread.

(Hope this is okay with Nicko)

That has been my point all along,i asked a general question on here the other day as to who else we could get to replace Brad,be it this year or in 2 years time.

Needless to say nobody could give an answer which i`m not surprised about.

As i said at the time there is a distinct lack of goalkeeping quality at the moment anywhere.

I think the only reason Ince would let Brad go is because he has a chance to get a current international goalkeeper.

Over the last few seasons Rovers have been getting a reputation for `reviving` careers that for one reason or another have stalled, players like Robinson will see this as a chance to get their careers back on track.

I can't find anything to suggest Winterburn has any coaching qualifications, can anyone comment on this? If all he's done since he retired is media work then I have no idea what he's doing at the club.

Goalkeepers rarely, if ever, get substituted if it's not for an injury.

Well that was just there for people nit picking. I know that Brad has only missed that 45mins when Brown came in. I can't say i know that for Robinson.

Push me and I would predict he stays - and possibly gets a bigger contract as a 'reward.'

New Contract, with no clause and everyones happy.

Think of it this way.

If we were to get Friedel to sign a new deal on £50k for 3 years it would work out as shown.

£2,600,000 extra £25k for 2 years

£2,600,000 extra 1 year at 50k

So £5,200,000 in wages extra than currently planned.

£2,500,000 transfer fee = £7.7m

So we could lose out on an extra £7.7m on a 37 year old, that could quite easily get an injury or two over the next season or two and could also slow him down considerably.

If we can get Robinson at 9 years younger for say £1-1.5m more and on the same £25k wages then we don’t lose £7.7m over the next 2 years. We could also potentially have an England keeper on our hands with 10 years or so still to go in his career.

This post together with Eddie's comment that Robinson at 27 is a better keeper than Friedel was at 27 are the two truest posts made here.

I have come round to thinking that it could be a very sound move despite calling Ince a dud for making it.

bugger that.

Lets have a Nicko drops titbit and we all sit in rapt attention and post more and more hysterical and silly speculation until the next titbit is given thread.

Oh like we already have

Not that I'm complaining about you nicko, this is most fun

Some good points but I think it's the unseemly haste with which Ince is shoving long serving, fans favourite Freidel out the door that grates with most people. Sure Villa may now be coming in with a huge offer but imo Freidel was off to City anyway and as a result of past history rather than his issues with his ability or value to the team.

It has already been said NOBODY is pushing Friedel out of the door - an offer has come in which is hard for either Friedel or rovers to turn down. Because it benefits Rovers as well as Friedel himself - Friedel is willing to be transfered.

Marco Marchionni (Juventus)

Libor Sionko (FC Copenhagen)

Perhaps, if many of us used the other threads on the board, for example, (don't sell friedel) for general debate, on a Nico thread, it would be much easier for everyone.

Instead of having 500 posts on here with regard, to the why, and there fores of (for ex Brad vs Robinson). Just return to the nico thread for updates and reference.

Yes I am a culprit, but also new, so I can be re-educated.

I'd love Barnetta to come, I've been following his progress for a few years now and I think he's a wonderful player. He shouldn't be out of our reach either.

Nice find, completely shocked TBH, would have expected brad to have at least one season above him! Perhaps there's a positive after all!

I suppose we have to take in to consideration some very strange games for Rovers last season - such as coventry (conceeded 4) - wigan away (conceeded 5) and Emerton passing back against Larrisa. Rovers defence was a bit shaky last season. Its ok looking at the clean sheet stats but what was the over all goals against comparison for Rovers and spurs during the past few seasons. Have Rovers conseeded more goals than spurs say in the past 5 seasons? A team keeping a clean sheet is not always to be credited to the keeper. for example goaline clearences. It really is hard to say, by looking at states who is the best keeper Robinson or Friedel as often it is down to how well the teams defence is.

Nicko, I thought you said Man City had no money? ;)The don't - their owner is going to jail - he will not pass go - but will aid city's imploding

Gutted if Bentley is going to Spurs, find it incredibly hard to believe that we haven't been in for him. Especially when the General made a blip and even said so. I think we may have bid, but Bentley doesn't want to live in Birmingham If bentley has said that then it is the only sensible words to come out of his mouth this year. :brfcsmilie:

As for Robbo, I think you guys are getting a good goalkeeper. Totally agree

Agreed! Been a big fan of his since the 2006 World Cup.

Barnetta and Sionko featured in the Euros for Switzerland and the Czech Rep respectively. The other "strangers" may not be the biggest names out there, but most are young and talented players who I feel would be within our reach.

I added some Wiki links to the original post for those of you who are not familiar with the players in question.

When I know I will tell you...within reason.

Like I say, Tottenham are hopeless to deal with - so in a swap it must qualify as a double nightmare with cheese.

But they HAVE to do business on Bentley fast as others could come in if they can raise funds.

The clock is ticking on this, which is actually very good news all round.

I suppose for a change Rovers hold all the cards - after all they have the players signed up on contracts that other clubs want. Give us what we want or the players stay with us.

Blackburn is hardly the greatest place in the world, and I'm pretty sure Birmingham is a major step up from your town. No offense. He wants to go to London - nothing to do with Birmingham as a city imo. Twisted my words a little there. But never mind.

You should get Football Manager, I'm starting to warm to the idea of Robbo replacing Freidel, the big man derserves legendary status but now maybe the time to move on an have one last pay day and maybe leak a goal or two for us.;)

i think robinson would be a very good buy, coming into his prime for a goalkeeper. He has england caps and played european football. I think people are missing the point that if friedal does go then who is better than him and wants to come to us. Robinson isnt a world class goalie but is he good and has good reflexes. He may be low in confidence but moving to a new club could give him new motivation.

Friedel is a god but he is 37, he is not going to keep going on forever!! and if we are going on about robinson making a mistake against croatia. Didnt have friedel have a howler at the end of the last season. Maybe we shouldnt go after Cech as he made a mistake for the Czech Republic!!

If we got him for 4 million then i think that is a good bit of business
