That is about the size of it.

If only clubs could see things in such a straightforward way...we wouldn't all be hanging on for results.

Rovers won't drop the figure, so I think there wil be a 'difference' of £13 million in values.

Of course, it might be smart to sell Bentley for £15 million, give Arsenal a bit less of the sell-on and buy Robinson for £3 million. I think someone hinted at that idea earlier...quite shrewd.

But cannot Rovers also put in a sell on clause to who ever buys Bentley? After all if Bentley signs for Spurs I cannot see him wanting to stay there after a year or two - his head will be turned again for a 'bigger club'.

I'm a bit worried by the fact that it'll be Winterburns first job and that he (apparently) doesn't have the badges. But on the other hand what he said in the interview seemed promising:

The thing I'd really like to be is a defensive coach. If that meant working part-time with one club or several clubs I wouldn't mind, even in the lower leagues or a non-league club. I have a passion for the art of defending. A lot of people say 'oh that's not the exciting part of the game' and that may be so, but it's still an important part. If I could go off and do something along those lines, along with the media stuff I'm doing, that would be the perfect world for me at the moment.

I'm sure some will find something negative to say about that attitude as well, such as "Non-league?? He's not ambitious enough for Blackburn!", but I like that attitude. He loves the art of defending, and he has all the knowledge in the world about it. The million dollar question of course is: Can he adequately teach what he knows? We'll just have to wait and see about that, but like I said when the search for the defensive coach was announced, I don't see what's negative about it. He has the knowledge, he has the passion, so I'm not worried.

And for whoever it was that pointed out that the whole team defends and not just the defenders; Indeed they do. But have you seen any indication that the defensive coach works only with the defenders? It's an ambigous name; it could mean coaching ALL players in defense, could mean coaching defenders, or it could mean coaching defenders and defensive midfielders. Or something else.

I hope he can have a positive impact on Stevie Warnock as well. Warnock is already a good player, but sometimes seem to lack concentration and positioning. Winterburn may not have been the best left back around, but in terms of positioning, offside traps and discipline at the back, there are few better.

Scott Carson priced lowered to £4m, could this mean the end of the Brad to Villa deal????

The reason Villa have gone for Brad is because they have been scared off by Carson's £10m tag put on his head by Liverpool. Today it transpires 'pool are willing to take £4m for him from Stoke so could this put Villa back onto to Carson?

Nicko, please tell us this was all ploy by MON to get Carson cheaper? The Villa fans in my office are shocked that a price of £4m has been agreed with Stoke and they all seem to want him over Friedel...

There is one reason Villa didn't & will not sign Scott Carson. He's #. One of the worst keepers i've had the misfortune of seeing at VP.

That's your opinion though. I don't follow Villa but as far as I was aware Carson was their first choice and were only put off by the £10m asking price; that doesn't exist anymore so I guess there's a chance MON may try to ressurect the deal... clutching at straws maybe but this drammatic price drop has come at a very interesting time though..

Blackburn is hardly the greatest place in the world, and I'm pretty sure Birmingham is a major step up from your town. No offense. He wants to go to London - nothing to do with Birmingham as a city imo. Twisted my words a little there. But never mind.

Yep I supose I did twist your words a tad - but all in fun not meant for insult etc. Anyway I do not live in Blackburn (I used to) - but on the south coast. No your right Bentley wants to go to London - now that is madness having lived there for 3 years before. I do go to Blackburn quite a lot during the season - to be honest it is not a bad town. I suppose we all moan and groan about the places we live - but it only when you leave and come back for a visit that you apprieciate how good things were.

Blackburn is a nice town surounded by rolling countryside. The Ribble Valley (Where Brockhall is) is one of the most desireable places in the country to live and has the HRH stamp of approval. The Queen has stated she would like to retire there. It is 10 miles from Manchester Centre (and this hurts) which is the most coming city in the country and the 2nd wealthiest area outside London. Blackburn is currently kept on it's feet by the new engineering industries - largely aircraft manufacture.

Birmingham must have nice areas but my recollection of it passing through on the motorway was of a dirty run down industrial conglomeration still trying to come to terms with it's demising industrial heretige. Sorry!

Well Benitez and O'Neill are hardly best buddies right now are they? It'll be funny to watch the fireworks resume over this price drop for Carson now.

This Brad situation isn't just about the fact he's worth 15-20 points a season, or even about the fact he's Mr Blackburn Rovers, but its going to Villa?

Who the hell are Aston Villa? Some team that had a decent period in 70's and early 80's, another so called bigger team that we've been out gunning for the past 15yrs.........

Hardly a step up.

Let's be honest, the fact we're defining Blackburn by the areas near to it rather than the town itself does say a lot. I grew up there but I would never want to move back there.

Charley says "Don't use logic and accurate information, it is not welcome"

 Classic.

We all know there are lies, damn lies and statistics but the anti Robinson brigade would have been trumpeting those figures 'til the cows came home to support their case had they come out the other way.

Its ok looking at the clean sheet stats but what was the over all goals against comparison for Rovers and spurs during the past few seasons. Have Rovers conseeded more goals than spurs say in the past 5 seasons?

Your wish is my command, league only.

Year    Rovers   Spurs
07/08     48       61
06/07     54       54
05/06     42       38
04/05     43       41

Robinson was at leeds the season before that.

Damn I wasn't aware that Arsenal had 50% sell on clause on Bentley - that's a bit of a blow. What would happen if he went to Tottenham on a free and Robinson, Lennon and Huddlestone came to us for free ?

Clearly Arsenal will be given one and a half of those players... shame for the poor dude who has to be decapitated to suit Arsenal's will...

Never been Spurs biggest fan, mainly due to their obnoxious, arrogant and delusional fans, but a Spurs move for Bentley would, IMHO, be the best move for all concerned.

They can keep their filthy mitts off of Roque though!

Carson at £4m or Friedel at £2.5m? No brainer really - Friedel every time. Carson is poor to the max, and I've said it before, and I'll say it again - he's a Championship goalkeeper. He's got one more season to prove himself in the Premiership with a Championship team - they're going to get relegated. He will probably shine their though, because people expect them to leak goals, and he will make the odd spectacular save - as he did at Charlton.

Carson is one of the worst goalkeepers I've ever seen at Villa. Thank god he isn't coming back to play for us.

Not just less but 3 times less!!!! They originally wanted £30m for Berba but think £10m is suffiencient for RSC, wtf???

Yeah its a common occurance with the raving looney's and delusional fans in North London... their players are worth a small country yet everyone else's players are worth peanuts... apparently...

BTW does this forum have a introductions thread or section? I'm new to these pastures and would like to introduce myself! :rover:

I also have a question for Mr Nixon, and this one isn't regarding transfer snips or tidbits.

In your honest opinion Sir, knowing football as you have for many years, how do you believe our Rovers will do this coming season. Maybe its too early to say judging by the lack of transfer activity to date, but through what you have heard, and are seeing... do you believe Ince and his coaches have what it takes to stabilise or improve us?

Thanks.
