Comments from what little I've seen and heard of the guesses for the right wing-target.

Tranquillo Barnetta (Leverkusen) - Thinkable, but didn't look good in the Euro 2008.

Juan Valera (Atletico Madrid) - Has only played a few games for Atletico.

Romeo Castelen (Hamburg) - Hasn't been fantastic in Germany.

Angel Lafita (Deportivo) - One good season, will stay at Depor.

Cani (Villarreal) - Even more of a one season wonder. Too weak.

Mario Santana (Fiorentina) - Always injured.

Ibrahim Afellay (PSV) - Very interesting. A slight chance, but still a chance.

Marco Marchionni (Juventus) - Benchplayer for Juve. Our range, but how often does Italian players do well in England?

Libor Sionko (FC Copenhagen) - Flopped at Rangers.

Rumor also has it that ManUre are sniffing about on Kun Aguero--looking to pony up

the 55 million escape clause in Maradona's son in law Athletico contract. whew... i said.

Does that mean Ronaldo is offski shortly?

Well worth every penny of the €55m IMO.

15.44 SSN -

Blackburn striker Roque Santa Cruz has played down reports that he is set for a summer move away from Ewood Park, insisting he is focused on the forthcoming season under new Rovers boss Paul Ince

Oh, dear... he's off then...

The acursed "I'm focused on my current club"- line....

Nicko - so it seems Brad is on his way to Villa? When you say City have no money, how can that be?

I'm not sure about Friedel, is he really that good? Or do you guys just have such affection for him? A three year contract for a 37 year old doesn't sound right to me. Play until he's 40?

Maybe you and all the other Villa fans that think that way should be saying so loud and clear to the club and to MoN. Leave them in no doubt as to how you feel it would be a waste of money.

On the subject of Man City's wealth.

1 - I have confirmed with a good City source that the money to pay for Sparky and his staff was borrowed.

2 - Record signing Jo, supposed to be costing £19 million, has cost them merely £3 million up front.

3 - The Ronaldinho 'bid' is on the never-never and his wages are part-sponsored by Nike among others.

It is a house of cards.

As I like to put my money where my mouth is I have just had a chunk on City to be relegated at 32 to 1. You are basically betting on them going pop. [You won't get that price now if you look on Betfair... ;) ]

Some people on here are ridiculous, the season has not started, we have not sold ONE player, we have not bought ONE player yet the hysetria...

Paul Ince- Young up and coming manager, judge 2 trophies in 2 years and saving Macc from relegation.

Mathias- Good bloke by all accounts Nicko says he has a high standing in the game.

Knox- any body name a better number 2, how many trophies has he won as number 2? Bowen- give him a chance.

The rest of the staff come highly recommended, HOW can you judge BEFORE they start!

Fowler- has NOT signed, he is the best striker of his generation on a potential pay as you play- costing us what?

I mean that Ince is daft, what can Derbyshire, Cruz, Roberts, our youth team players learn from this guy-grow a brain.

Big Brad- he is NOT being forced out, he is willing to leave for MONEY, how is this different from Lucash? How can you blame Ince? Why should we pay him DOUBLE, he has a two year deal!!

Robinson was England number 1, is 28 years old and potentially a great keeper, can anyone remember Big Brad at Liverpool? He was the same age and blundering for them, could be a good signing...

Bentley was going even if Hughes was here.

Ince has said we WILL play ATTACKING football, did we see much of that last year under Hughes?

Tell me if I have missed anything... but I think we should have this conversation once the first ball is kicked.

OK I can agree with all that you say as far it goes but I would make just one slight modification (highlighted). I would change that to ...Pay as you score. ;) Oh yes, and at the rate of £1 a goal as well.

We are in serious trouble next season. We will only have one player of genuine quality whereas last season we had three. Thank god the newly promoted teams are so awful or I would be seriously worried.

Rubbish TG

add Bolton, Boro, Fulham, Newcastle, Sunderland, Wigan to that list and get a reality check

Who tells these players what to say to the press ? Santa riding his horse in two directions at once in his latest quote. I used to play left-back and I loved defending , do you think I can job share with Winterburn ? I'll do the three days that he misses. Seriously, I've seen him on T.V. and he talks sense but is he smart enough to be a coach? One thing I won't miss if Brad goes- Opposition players having clean headers on and in the six yard box while our keeper is frozen on his line.

I find it difficult that Athletico would let him go after all their bluster to keep him and the Champ's League beckoning--

then again the €55m plugs a lot of holes in the Colchonero side, eh?

but one more thing..... why would Sir RN look to bring on Tevez' twin on the side? IMO They are the same player!!

€55m is his release clause, all Spanish players have to have one. So they would have no choice but to accept the offer. It would then be down to Aguero to decide.

Can you give more details...

Blackburn is hardly the greatest place in the world, and I'm pretty sure Birmingham is a major step up from your town. No offense. He wants to go to London - nothing to do with Birmingham as a city imo. Twisted my words a little there. But never mind.

If the world had piles they would be situated in Birmingham. :P

There could be white smoke from the direction of Tottenham...

I understand they are signing a SECOND keeper and my mole informs me that is because 'Paul Robinson is going to Blackburn Rovers.'

Don't know the Spurs signing's name...working on it.

We'll have an out of form keeper, a good left back, a promising centre back in Samba (but who looked erratic at times last season), Nelsen doesnt seem to be the player he was, god knows who we'll get in at right back, no quality whatsoever in midfield (I liked Vogel but he's not a matchwinner), hopefully one quality striker (but who's just had one very good season and has lost his main supply) and not much else. Maybe Benni will come to the party but I wouldn't count on it. We have no knowledge of Ince's transfer record and how well he'll do. We forget just how many multi million pound duds get bought as Hughes spoilt us.

Boro have a great forward line (Alves and Tuncay), Downing and Aliadiére in midfield and a pretty solid defence with the likes of Wheater, Huth and Pogatetz.

Newcastle have the quality to finish above us and looked pretty good after their losing run - question mark over their manager but question marks over ours too.

Sunderland did pretty well in their first season back up last season and will have a lot of cash to spend again.

Bolton, Fulham and Wigan - we'd hope we finish above them but as I said, there's really not that much quality in our team either. And with a new manager who knows how we'll do. Bolton have just signed Elmander, Wigan have still got Valencia...you'd hope we finish higher than them but if we have a bad start....
