Spoke to his agent who said he was coming back this weekend and I think it was mentioned in the South American press that he arrived in England on Sunday.

Clare Tomlinson just said on SSN that the bloke who's at the Rovers game has spoken to Paul Ince, and Ince has apparently said Villa have made a bid for Bentley earlier today.

well i never. would bentley want to go to villa, really?? if he wants champions league i'm not sure why he's bothering with spurs or villa...

Villa and Spurs also see themselves as rivals for 5/6th place... although both are obviously racked with dillusion, hopefully both side will want to keep bents away from the other. 20 million anyone?

Nicko- what is the thinking in Ince announcing that Villa have bid for Bentley, is he trying to scare Spurs into upping their offer?

I hope this situation gets resolved quickly.

Knowing Villa? What do you mean by that? This is a very different Villa these days, believe me. We are a very ambitious club, and when MON thinks you are worth the money, he will pay it, i.e. Young £9.65m, Davies £10m and Reo-Coker £8.5m. I think we would have offered you very near the amount if not the £17m itself. Well Nicko, I have been asking you about Bentley for about a week, but all we get is Spurs this, Spurs that.

I think Ince has done this to start a bidding war - at this moment in time, we are the only bidders - good management by Ince. He knows there are other interested parties.

It still smack of tomfoolery for Spurs and Villa to bid. They are certainly not able to offer him any measurable amount of a chance at champions league football. A Barry and Mellberg-Less Villa will be dreadful and Spurs... well... maybe Ramos pulls off an unlikely turnorund, and the cup I guess means its possible, but I just don't see them gaining enough on the top 4 to make it happen.
