Knowing Villa? What do you mean by that? This is a very different Villa these days, believe me. We are a very ambitious club, and when MON thinks you are worth the money, he will pay it, i.e. Young £9.65m, Davies £10m and Reo-Coker £8.5m. I think we would have offered you very near the amount if not the £17m itself. Well Nicko, I have been asking you about Bentley for about a week, but all we get is Spurs this, Spurs that.

I think Ince has done this to start a bidding war - at this moment in time, we are the only bidders - good management by Ince. He knows there are other interested parties.

I mean they would have started lower than they are willing to pay so they can test us out and see how much we want. They might find out that we want less than what they would actually pay. It makes sense.

Just saw SSN, main points

Villa bid for Bents

Wants to keep Bents

Brad one of best keepers in Premier league

No interest in Robinson

Want to keep best players, Brad, Bents, Santa Cruz.

Just heard Sky too...when did he say he didn't want Robinson? He 'didn't want to talk about that' as far as I could make out. Which wasn't easy.

Nobody has offered the £17 million for Bentley yet is the bottom line here.

Ince on SSN: Brad one of the best goalkeepers in the Premiership.

Not selling our best players!!!!!

This is all a case of Wag the Dog.

The fans will be unhappy when we sell Bents, so let us distract them. We will tell them that Brad is being sold and even let some faxes out to say he is available.

The fans will be very distraught about this, Meanwhile we finish up the Bentley deal.

Once the deal is complete we will wheel out the manager to say how great Brad is and that he is going nowhere.

We sell Bents. Fan negative reaction is minimal.

This can only be a good thing, yes?

Is this not just Paul confirming that there was a bid from Villa. As I understand there was one made and rejected a few weeks back. Doesn't mean it happen today and Paul said it pretty casually. Think Sky have jumped the gun here and got abit excited.

Interesting comments by Ince though managers have come out before saying players aren't for sale and yet a week later they are gone.

By making such a hard stance like he did on SSN it will raise questions if any of those players do go.

It still smack of tomfoolery for Spurs and Villa to bid. They are certainly not able to offer him any measurable amount of a chance at champions league football. A Barry and Mellberg-Less Villa will be dreadful and Spurs... well... maybe Ramos pulls off an unlikely turnorund, and the cup I guess means its possible, but I just don't see them gaining enough on the top 4 to make it happen.

So by the same token, you'll be dreadful without Bentley? Come on mate. We have money, we will replace Mellberg (who wasn't very good at RB at all) and Barry is replaceable, I think Sidwell will do a good job for us. If we get Bentley, that more than compensates for Barry's ability at corners. As long as we keep Young and Laursen, we will be just fine.

Nicko - Judging by that interview, your 'sources' are misinformed and Brad isn't going anywhere. Ince wouldn't say that about Brad unless he was confident he was staying. This done deal of Bentley to Spurs and Robbo to Blackburn is turning out to be a load of poo. I guess you're at a bit of a loss at the moment?

Who are you again? A Manc who supports Villa? Maybe not.

I think you will find the info is right.

What did the manager say - he's a good player and we don't want to lose him.

That's original.

if Bentley does go to Villa Nicko, i very much doubt blackburn will go in for Robinson because i think spurs will not play ball with us because they have missed out on Bentley. Brad looked happy tonight as well according to mates who atttended the game

Too many 'ifs' at the moment.

Bentley can go for £17 million. If Spurs won't pay it Villa might. Fine.

Rovers will still need a new keeper.

Bentley wont go villa , why would he ?

I think the only appealing thing may be that he likes the color?

I can not see anything (except Europe this year) that would be better.

I do not recall Birmingham being the cultural center of England or anything.

Wondering if the Carson thing has anything to do with it. O'Neil sounded keen on Carson but that seemed to stop when Liverpool wanted something like £10 million. Now Liverpool have dropped the price i'm wondering if O'Neil might be interested again.

In the transfer season you regularly see players being considered one day by managers and the following day they look at someone else. When you consider the vast amounts of money being spent managers want to make sure they are making the right decision.

We don't know whats happening behind the scenes fully as its such a rapidly changing environment. We will have to just wait and see what happens.
