Correct.

But you might want to read the stories rather than stop at the headlines.

Mark Hughes wanted Anelka and told the club that. Check it out.

Bentley was quite happy to negotiate a new contract and there was no turbulence until late in the season when he reverted to type and went big-time.

Deschamps spoke to Newcastle. They thought better of it. Are you trying to tell me Kevin Keegan was first choice? I suppose Harry Redknapp never met them either...

Keep going.

There's always a but though isn't there? No doubt IF Freidel stays you will say "the deal fell through" or "the board changed their minds" etc.

The point is you could claim virtually anything to be true with no proof because there will always be a get out clause or a "situation change".

As I said, I'm not anti-nicko and visit this forum regulary but although I have no reason to doubt you, I also have no reason to take what you say as Gospel either. I don't even trust everything my girlfriend talles me so I'm not going to start with someone I don't know!

That's OK, there isn't an exam at the end of it LoL! Don't shoot the messenger, we all want Rovers to make good signings and have a good season ,some rumours will turn into scoops and others will be consigned to the waste basket

There is often a but. It seems to have gone over your head.

You might have missed it but your local paper confirmed that both Villa and Man City made bids for last week.

Your club said time and again that they were negotiating with Bentley. They had no reason to believe he was going to do a large one on them.

It may have avoided your all-seeing eye but Fowler has been training with Rovers since last Friday.

If you don't see where the buts come in may I suggest you butt out.

Not all of it - just the stuff I can find out and pass on.

You can decide whether you like it from there.

Plus it keeps some people amused too apparently...

I like Pennant, he can provide quality service into the box.

I would rather go for Aimar though if he is available for £7m.

Pennants crossing is more miss than hit. There is also a worry about his attitude, lack of goals and lack of assists.

To replace Bentley we have to get someone as good or who could be as good.

Aimar would be a good buy. :rover:

He knows some of it but situations change all the time. Other clubs change their minds, get hints that other players might be available; our club hears that a deal that they might have liked to look at is suddenly available; players look at clubs and decide they don't like the deal; their wives/ gfs or whoever don't fancy living wherever. It happens all the time. Journalist on tv yesterday admitted what we all know. that though they have contacts and therefore more idea than the man in the street about what's going on, they are also inclined to build stories from fairly flimsy evidence and present it as fact if the story won't quite break for them. I'm not suggesting that Nicko does this but that only the actual parties to a deal really know what is happening and even then they probably don't know every detail about every aspect, as who is really honest about everything they intend to do?

bentley:

it would seem then that its only villa who have had an offer made and accepted then?

is bentley just waiting to see who else comes in for him? has he met aston villa officials?

i would imagine ince wants him sold asap to fund his own targets?

Ince is not a liar, neither is he speaking the whole truth, as he is not under oath.

If you pick out key words, and the tence, that they where used, he was covering himself from all sides. don't want, dose not mean will not, Etc.

Turns out he is quite a politician, from the interview last night. (media will love him, turn a quote into anything, and everything to find an angle)

After listening to the interview several times, a phrase comes to mind that lends it self to the situation perfectly.

It was the truth at the time.

Which leaves him the maneuverability, to change tack when and if needed.

I think the wind is about to change direction, very soon.

Some folk on here lead very simplistic and sheltered lives. Real life is complicated with all kinds of twists and turns. What is the case at one time isn't minutes later as people change their minds or new facts come to light.

I doubt Liverpool would let pennant go for less than 6 million so Aimar at 7 million would clearly be the better buy! Also it would change the midfield dynamic a bit. At the end of last season we were effectively playing (with bentley and Cruz swapping round a bit):

-----------------Roberts

Pedersen--------Cruz-----------Bentely

-----------Vogel-------Emerton

But really there is no reason why we couldn't switch to:

-------------Roberts----Cruz

---------------------Aimar

--------Pedersen---Vogel--Emerton

All it would mean is shifting our main creative force from wide right to attacking central midfield which is where Bentley spent a lot of hi stime any way.

Daft as it might sound I could see aimar fancying Rovers to revive his career. We could match his wages and point to Cruz as an example of our ability to renew those who get a little lost.

Oh was the whole Joaquin thing complete nonsense? Not sure where we would have found 16 million from....

Why? Nicko is just doing market research to make sure he knows just how low the average reading age is for his mass market tabloid. And in some cases this is heading alarmingly south.

After some posters have swung on their slingbacks in a hissy fit and got their na na na na ners out of the way because a story hasnt broken exactly how Nicko predicted, ask yourself this. Do you work in football? If the answer is no, then stop warbling on about what you might know if you did. Only one poster on here works in football. Which is why we swim like pilot fish around his head desperately looking for blue n white scraps to feed our demented passion.

I'm going for a pint.

Strange, I thought he was a jounalist. If that's working in football, does that mean the paparazzi work for the Royal family or Z-list celebrities.

What *worries* me is if the Brad leaving story doesn't pan out and he stays, will the Church of Nicko become as welcome as the Moonies?

To be fair fella, I don't think Nicko has ever said we should take what he says as Gospel nor has he said that what he says is the entire truth. He's stressed numerous times his scoops are generally from sources and could change at any minute.

Nicko throws us a hint or potential deal, we speculate, things are interesting. Isn't that the point? I don't think you're going to get any concrete information short of John Williams signing up and throwing us down the latest news.

He also made the comment about how he is full aware that things change and that players will come and go. Think he covered his back with that remark.

yeh i read that quote on the bbc last night and found it very interesting, unless something was about to happen you wouldnt normally say that would you

Well, yes, you would because we want to bring players in as well. He knows he has players who want ot move and players he might want to move on when he's had a better look at them so why not say it? It's true.

Now you've delayed me from a pint of foaming glory with a boneheaded car crash of an observation. To stay with your analogy - if you wanted to know whether Princess Diana was knocking off Dodi or Dunny, would you ask a royal correspondent journo or Beta Bill, Gumboots or EwoodBwood? Thirsty work posting
