OJRovers Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 It seems like Ince can't win at the minute with some people on here; Last week people slated him for not making a statement to say he wanted Brad to stay, now he has said that he wants him to stay he's being called a liar! Of course Rovers have looked at other options (Robinson) in the event he does leave, but Ince couldn't say: "Yes we have looked at Robinson, but I want Friedal to stay" - If he had the same people would be arguing that he had caused a rift by saying that we were looking around! I think we just need to get behind Ince and support his decisions. I have come round to the idea of having Robinson now - why wait til Brad starts making mistakes before replacing him? If we can get Robbo on the cheap and £2.5m for Brad then this sorts us out for the next 5+ years with a decent keeper.
The Prof. Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Well, this is why I was shocked about us paying Brad big money because I just don't see O'Neill bringing in a new keeper and make him on more money than Laursen, Gabby, Young, Carew etc Oneill has always maintaned that he would pay big wages, but you have to earn it. At the moment Barry is our top earner and is on around £45k. It's very hard for non-Villa fans to understand that we are a completely new brand. It's very exciting times at Villa - highest gates in 50 years, a billionaire owner who isn't afraid to spend money - some of the things he has done are unbelievable, truly - and a great manager. Bentley fits into what we are building - young and English - Gabby, Young, Reo-Coker, Sidwell, Davies. I do apologise to Mr Nixon, I was simply questioning his sources. I still think Bentley will end up at Spurs. Is that it? We paid Andy Cole £70k a week when he came five years ago - You'll have to pay Bentley a tad more than Barry and I suspect if the nev Guv wants to we'd easily match it. You must get excited very easy down there.
3rdpillar Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 im sure if personal money wasn't at stake here (betting), there wouldn't be so much interest in closed season. People can't be that bored OR that interested in their club, that they are willing to spend hours on here desperate for the latest snippit. Money stinks, especially when someones wiped their ass on it as its passed through their hands.
incecticide Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Is that it? We paid Andy Cole £70k a week when he came five years ago That seems unlikely, unless I've wildly misjudged the salaries on offer at Rovers. United weren't paying people that then... or were they?
Blue n White Rover Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Rovers Spokesman Confirms interest in Castillo Blackburn deny reports that they have completed the signing of Ecuador midfielder Segundo Castillo. "He's a player we are interested in," said a Blackburn spokesman. (BBC Sport) Link
joey_big_nose Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 I'm bored and a little confused. Lets do a little roundup: Outgoing: Bentley - Definatley going - Villa turned down, Spurs trying to set up a deal including Robinson. Asking price 17m. No other confirmed bidders yet although Liverpool and Everton have been linked. Freidal - Not sure if he is going but Villa are definatley very interested and Rovers up for it if we can get Robinson in. I don't quite understand what the deal is with this one. Cruz - No offers but tracked seriously by both Spurs and Arsenal. Incoming: Castillo - Seems to be a done deal apart from the problems with percentages. Sounds like a real talent in central midfield. Robinson - Definately available and Spurs are keen to offload. Price seems uncertain. Joaquin - Linked in the papers but seems like pie in the sky. Any body care to rebuff/add to this?
tony gale's mic Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 im sure if personal money wasn't at stake here (betting), there would be so much interest in closed season. Rubbish. If this was the manager's job I could understand your point (I made close to £600 from nicko's last two tips), but I very much doubt whether you'll find a bet on where Brad Friedel will be playing next season.
joey_big_nose Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 That seems unlikely, unless I've wildly misjudged the salaries on offer at Rovers. United weren't paying people that then... or were they? Yeah, I thought the salary for Cole and Yorke was more like 40k....
The Prof. Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 http://www.spurs.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=508143 looks like someone got up on the wrong side of their bed TOUGH NEGOTIATOR - What is the guy on. Spurs have been the softest touch in Football for years!
gumboots Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Rubbish. If this was the manager's job I could understand your point (I made close to £600 from nicko's last two tips), but I very much doubt whether you'll find a bet on where Brad Friedel will be playing next season. Not only that but I've never placed a bet in my life - wouldn't know how to - but I'm a bit of a captive audience as at this time of year much of my time is taken up with clearing cupboards and so on ready for next term and I keep giving myself little breaks when I've breathed in too much dust.
The Prof. Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Yeah, I thought the salary for Cole and Yorke was more like 40k.... 'Fulham have agreed to take over Cole's £60,000-a-week Blackburn contract, which still has one year to run.' http://forums.soccerfansnetwork.com/showthread.php?t=20863
paulo23 Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 They made an offer, it has not been accepted. It was the one about a week back which was rejected Quick question, if our bid had been rejected would ince not have said so? When talking about barry and liverpool MON has said a few times that the bid has been rejected. The general let slip that our bid was alot more than the £10 million that was reported. If it was rejected i really think ince would have said so. Should be interesting to hear what MON says after our friendly game tonight. I can understand why you guys would think moving to villa is a bit of a sideways move, i really hope we get him though, just to shut up those arrogant spurs fans who think they are much bigger than they actually are.

Antgrad Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 why wait til Brad starts making mistakes before replacing him? I'm sure you didn't mean it this way, it just made me laugh. Why wait for Brad making mistakes when we can get Robinson now.
gumboots Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 im sure if personal money wasn't at stake here (betting), there wouldn't be so much interest in closed season. People can't be that bored OR that interested in their club, that they are willing to spend hours on here desperate for the latest snippit. Money stinks, especially when someones wiped their ass on it as its passed through their hands. There's also the feeling that you don't want to miss it when it happens. It's like when you're desperate for the toilet but you think you can hang on till half time only to find you really need to go now and you miss the winning goal. Can't help feeling that if you take your eye off the situation for too long things will happen.
incecticide Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 'Fulham have agreed to take over Cole's £60,000-a-week Blackburn contract, which still has one year to run.' http://forums.soccerfansnetwork.com/showthread.php?t=20863 Getting there, but I'd still be shocked if that was true. The words "fans network" in that link don't make it the most reliable source in my view, but I don't know any more than the next man on the details of players' contracts.
Bobby G Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Btw, Ricardo Osorio is an excellent right back and is definitely worth it if we sign him.
joey_big_nose Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 don't not accepted and rejected mean the same thing? Nope. Not accepted just means neither accepted or rejected, ie. leaving your options open. Rejected is a definitive statement.
Frisky Jim Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Pennants crossing is more miss than hit. There is also a worry about his attitude, lack of goals and lack of assists. Pennant's crossing ability is pitiful. I'm concerned that we have been linked with a move for him - I think he is a vastly inferior player to Bentley and I don't want him anywhere near the club.
3rdpillar Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Rubbish. If this was the manager's job I could understand your point (I made close to £600 from nicko's last two tips), but I very much doubt whether you'll find a bet on where Brad Friedel will be playing next season. Without getting specific re players / managers, your rather hansom returns kinda prove the point. Congratualtions.
nicko Posted July 15, 2008 Author Posted July 15, 2008 There's an interesting situation developping at West Ham that may just explain some of the things that went wrong with a recent Rovers takeover bid. I understand that their Icelandic backers are looking to get some of their money back fast. Others better qualified on world finance will no doubt be able to explain that one. However I understand that an Icelandic bank were part of Chris Ronnie's consortium...makes you think if they have got cold feet about football too.
nicko Posted July 15, 2008 Author Posted July 15, 2008 Further proof that some deals take time... http://www.people.co.uk/sport/football/tm_...-name_page.html Just six months for that one to drag its way over the line. I hope Rovers and Spurs have better luck.
bringdunnback Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Good signing Kapo, maybe with Koumas being pushed out maybe Sparky may make a move for him.
nicko Posted July 15, 2008 Author Posted July 15, 2008 Good signing Kapo, maybe with Koumas being pushed out maybe Sparky may make a move for him. THAT part was six months ago - a lot has happened since.
