RibbleValleyRover Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 I think the general consensus is no one knows what will happen. Those that are feeling a bit disappointed and have fears for the season may be correct and raise some valid points. Those that feel Ince may be a big success and take us forward may be the ones that are correct. We just don't know. I think we should be universal in our support of the new manager, but at the same time we should respect those that have different opinions on what the future may hold or what their gut feeling may tell them.

thenodrog Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 he needs to be level headed and intelligent enough to get the best out of our squad. I bet no one's ever used those words in connection with Paul Ince...EVER.
AJW Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 can anyone tell me what will happen about his backroom staff , would they have already been identified by ince and put to the board before they appointed ince or would it be a case of making the phone calls to people between now and tuesday?
RevidgeBlue Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Interesting times ahead. Never liked him as a player, but I think he will do well. Blimey John! You were calling him to high heaven a few hours ago!
John Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Blimey John! You were calling him to high heaven a few hours ago! If you read my comments on Ince, I am referring to him as a person. Not a manager. I cannot help it if other people find it amusing that he has become our next manager - I am just relaying that onto here. Trying to keep things positive.....
AggyBlue Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 I bet no one's ever used those words in connection with Paul Ince...EVER. Shouldn't you be praticing your golf?
disgruntled Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Can't understand some of the negativity towards our new appointment on this board, we have justy appointed a young, ambitious manager who is a born winner. All the other candidates were either never going to happen, or disasters waiting to happen, so I think we have landed a good one here. From what I know of John williams we must have got the best man for the job out of 40 + applicants, including some experienced names, so I think it is naive to start panicking until we have at least got a good way into Ince's tenure. Well said Paul, couldn't have put it better myself. The reaction on here has been nothing short of hysterical.
PrideOfLancs Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Delighted with the appointment and can't wait for the season to kick off now Sick of hearing about bloody Laudrup, get over him
RibbleValleyRover Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 can anyone tell me what will happen about his backroom staff , would they have already been identified by ince and put to the board before they appointed ince or would it be a case of making the phone calls to people between now and tuesday? I would have thought the discussion of who would be part of Ince's backroom team was carried out during the interview. With an inexperienced manager coming from a lower division i am expecting some backroom staff that are pretty experienced.
thenodrog Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 There was no way they could block Ince...but maybe they are going to make a stand in the future when it would be less controversial. Surely that would be racist?
RevidgeBlue Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Still waiting for philip "Ince is dead meat" L to resurface! Inspired appointment by John Williams and the Board imo.
dj54nna Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Interesting to think he might have a bit of pull when it comes to ex Utd or Liverpool players, Paul Scholes anyone? As much as I would like to see it and as much as Ince would probably appreciate a shin-up from old Fergie, I really can't see this happening. It was mentioned that both Giggsy and Scholes would probably be taking on Tugay-like coaching roles and ending their careers at United. I can see them both going into management eventually. I've been pondering over it for the last hour or so and I suppose the club were originally willing to give the job to someone with absolutely zero management experience (Shearer, albeit he was assistant at Newcastle) without hesitation. Therefore, it's got to be a step up from that. However, it's definitely a step down from Laudrup or Ten Cate, both qualified and experienced. They'd probably cost a lot more and jump ship a lot quicker though. After all this hanging on, I can't help but be disappointed. I just hope JW isn't wrong on this one.
RevidgeBlue Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Simon you are increasingly resembling the boy that stood on the burning deck...... . Looks like the fire brigade arrived in the nick of time Gordon!
John Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Looking at Ince's life history, he makes a habit of proving people wrong...
thenodrog Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Looks like the fire brigade arrived in the nick of time Gordon! You've clicked on the wrong smiley there Simon. Either of these would be more appropriate... Keep em handy I'm sure that you will be needing them soon.
FourLaneBlue Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Surely that would be racist? Of course...but probably down to them being worried about the backlash they would have received if they had blocked the first black British manager in the top-flight. Nicko did say that one chairman in particular was against Ince being allowed to manage. The press would not have been good for him if he had stuck to his guns.
RevidgeBlue Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 You've clicked on the wrong smiley there Simon. Either of these would be more appropriate... Keep em handy I'm sure that you will be needing them soon. We'll see. But if it had been BFS you'd be urging everyone to give him a chance.
FourLaneBlue Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 I bet no one's ever used those words in connection with Paul Ince...EVER. People have been doing that for the last eighteen months in regards to his managerial career. Whether there is any substance to it or not we will be the ones to find out. It is a big gamble...no doubt that.
thenodrog Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 I don't believe that you can't see that Ince's appointment is an important milestone. More importantly have you found your golf clubs yet? Eh? important milestone? In what respect? Other than a milestone to signal the beginning of the end for the Walker years.
thenodrog Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Nicko did say that one chairman in particular was against Ince being allowed to manage. The press would not have been good for him if he had stuck to his guns. Just how sick is that?
dj54nna Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Looking at Ince's life history, he makes a habit of proving people wrong... Very true. Something about 'never coming to a two-bob nothing club'?
Paul Mellelieu Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Eh? important milestone? In what respect? Other than a milestone to signal the beginning of the end for the Walker years. Here's a clue bigboy: FIRST BLACK ENGLISH TOP FLIGHT MANAGER Got it yet? Anyway, what's it to you, you're off to spend Saturdays on the golf course, unless you've changed your mind.
Paul Mellelieu Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Just how sick is that? have you checked to see if you can get a refund on your season ticket yet?
FourLaneBlue Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Just how sick is that? It´s the way it is. You saw the article we got from The Mirror when it merely appeared JW was thinking about it. It is all conjecture but I cannot imagine they would have dared block Ince in becoming a manager. They let Southgate away with it so there was a precedent and they would not have looked good. They would not have had a leg to stand on because of Southgate and we already have had articles banging on about how much of a landmark it is that a black British manager is in the top-flight. Imagine the reaction if he had then been blocked!
