thenodrog Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 It´s the way it is. You saw the article we got from The Mirror when it merely appeared JW was thinking about it. It is all conjecture but I cannot imagine they would have dared block Ince in becoming a manager. They let Southgate away with it so there was a precedent and they would not have looked good. They would not have had a leg to stand on because of Southgate and we already have had articles banging on about how much of a landmark it is that a black British manager is in the top-flight. Imagine the reaction if he had then been blocked! The FA had just nicked Maclaren and were arranging compensation.

thenodrog Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 We'll see. But if it had been BFS you'd be urging everyone to give him a chance. No need. Allardyce is a proven success at managing a small prem club similar to ours with very limited resources. And hat is irrefutable fact.
Wiggy Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 So the seventh best team in the country has appointed an unqualified coach who has had 18 months experience in the 4th division. Must have given a damn good interview. Of course, it could well work out ( about a 20% chance?). After having one of the most professional coaching set ups in the league I think it's imperative that he gives the players an excellent first impression when they return to training. Anything less and expect a flurry of transfer requests.
DannyKeg Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 I'm happy with Ince and although Laudrup and Bilic would have been more "exotic" and fancy, I think Ince will do the job for us. He is young, hungry and ambitious, so our success will be his success and visa versa. I think he will know what needs to be done at this level and how important it will be to assemble a professional backroom staff. That was where Hughes scored over Souness. He will also need to be lucky in the transfer market, we will just have to wait and see. It may well be a more difficult season to come, as Ince settles in and the players get to know him, but he has a good solid foundation to build on and a supportive and professional board and chairman behind him. I think he will earn the support of the players and fans alike. Come on the Rovers !
Lytham Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Very pleased. I think he's the right choice. Probably the outstanding up and coming English manager, very competitive, shown his willingness to learn his trade lower down the Leagues. Success is never guaranteed, but Ince knows all about winning football matches at the top level, and has shown he has managerial abilities. I'm delighted.
BiggusLaddus Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Here's a clue bigboy: FIRST BLACK ENGLISH TOP FLIGHT MANAGER Got it yet? Anyway, what's it to you, you're off to spend Saturdays on the golf course, unless you've changed your mind. When your milestone has to contain several adjectives to make it unique, it's usually a good indication that it's not that much of a milestone afterall...
rundereim Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Good luck to Ince just hope he have the quality to bring inn some good cheep players
Saf Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 all the best incy, how much do u think he will get to spend in the transfere market nicko,
Dunnfc Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 One word - DISGUSTING. I'm horrified, sickened that weve got INCE. Off for a cry now.
disgruntled Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Good, don't let the door hit your arse on the way out.
dj54nna Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 all the best incy, how much do u think he will get to spend in the transfere market nicko, Bentley will be off like a shot and if Adebayor from Arsenal is going, I don't see Roque hanging about either. That'll give him at least £30m.
QOTSA Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Help needed - does anyone recall exactly what Ince said when Blackburn tried to sign him from Inter? Knocking up a blog post for Setanta and could do with getting it right
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Why dig up the past mate? Rovers dont need anymore sh1t stirring/back stabbing and especially by their own fans too FFS DONT BOTHER Get behind him and then judge him by results on the pitch.
Dunnfc Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Help needed - does anyone recall exactly what Ince said when Blackburn tried to sign him from Inter? Knocking up a blog post for Setanta and could do with getting it right Said something along the lines of "Why would i sign for a second rate team".

No, I'm making the point that he'll have to win over the fans. I've no interest in making a big deal out of something that was said over 10 years ago.
Saf Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/A37586046 a decent article on him A final thing which wud put the icing on the cake is the takeover, lets hope there is some positive forward progrees in the not so distant futre, eacuse thts one cloud we would like to get out of the way, and giv ince some financial backing to go out there and invest in bringin the right sorts of players he thinks the club needs
disgruntled Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 If thats the angle Setanta want to take then they'll lose any Rovers supporters that they had I imagine. Sky have been very positive in their reporting of the news today.
bob fleming Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Help needed - does anyone recall exactly what Ince said when Blackburn tried to sign him from Inter? Knocking up a blog post for Setanta and could do with getting it right Wasn't it something along the lines of "One day, with the wind in the right direction, it's my dream to manage Blackburn Rovers. If it's good enough for Woy, well it's good enough for me. What a cracking team they are. A unique playing strip and fantastic history. A proper football club. I'll need to start in the lower leagues first mind you and try and impress them that way. Anyway, sod them right now I'm off to Liverpool."

I've no interest in making a big deal out of something that was said over 10 years ago. So by digging up his past comments on Setanta for everyone to use as amunition against us your not making a big deal out of it QOTSA? I'd totally forgotten he'd made such remarks up until recently.....................
Tim Southampton Rover Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Now he's our manager, we've gotta give him 100% support and forget about the Hughes era. This is the Ince era which will hopefully move on to better and greater achievements. We all know he's a winner as a player and he's proved it as a manager in the lower league. No matter who we thought should have been the Rovers manager, he's one of us now. Paul Ince's Blue and White Army.
BuckyRover Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Allegedly (I didn't see it myself) Bentley has been on skysports news sayings it's a great appointment but he won't be here at the start of the season. He really is backing himself into a corner.

Alex Rover Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Said something along the lines of "Why would i sign for a second rate team".He was correct and is still correct. So he signed for Liverpool who are a first rate team. Like it or not.
bob fleming Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Darkness on SSN shortly....... All the best Paul son, love ya! Thanks for the compo!
