BENTLEY - Villa like him, but not at £15 million and will probably take Milner. Liverpool like him at £12 million and will probably try swaps.

Well they can forget it then. £15m cash at least!

If not we keep him for another year and he'll be worth similar, if not more next summer. :rover:

That said thread from Ian Wright...

"I HAVEN’T heard a good joke for ages but the one about Paul Ince not having the qualifications to land the Blackburn job was an absolute belter.

Downright hilarious. Actually, it’s a downright disgrace.

Apparently a guy who has played for some of the biggest clubs in the world, has captained his country and then worked wonders in the lower leagues isn’t suitable to manage in the top flight.

The League Managers’ Association and the Premier League wanted him to earn his badges first.

They have since said he can take over as long as he gets the UEFA Pro Licence within two years. But what will a course teach Paul Ince about football?

Nothing is the answer. This is a man who experienced playing at the highest level with England.

He played in European Cups with Manchester United, pulled the strings in midfield at Inter Milan and performed in front of the Kop.

What he did at Macclesfield and then the MK Dons is a million times more useful than sitting in a classroom being taught by supposed football boffins.

Here we have a young, bright, determined English-born bloke trying to make his way in the game and people are trying to stop him.

And they wonder why we are struggling to breed top coaches. I remember Gareth Southgate having similar problems when he took over at Middlesbrough.

LMA chief at the time, John Barnwell, wasn’t having any of it and opposed the idea.

Gareth, like Paul Ince, enjoyed a great career at the top. He learned his trade thanks to hours upon hours on the training pitch working with top managers day in, day out.

So then to say he can’t do the job because he hasn’t got a certificate is a stab in the back.

For the supposed powers-that-be to kick up a stink is bureaucratic nonsense of the highest order and it needs to be looked at.

Surely there must be an exemption for someone who has won more than 50 England caps. I’ve been watching Incey’s situation at Blackburn closely and if he hadn’t got the job it would have been plain wrong.

A lot has been made of the fact that he is the first black English manager to work in the top-flight but I don’t see that as being at all important or relevant.

I prefer to look at how Paul has done the hard yards. He saved Macclesfield from going under, working on a shoestring. He inspired his players to perform above themselves. He is a winner and that spreads.

Blackburn have taken on this winner and hopefully the LMA can see that.

I won’t be holding my breath though.

IAN WRIGHT was talking to STEVE BRENNER.

But it's UEFA who says that you have to have the pro licence. Andy Roxburgh who's on the technical committee, says it's lkike being given a Maserati without a driving licence, you just wouldn't get away with it.

It's OK to say that Ince has seen top coaches and managers in action, but that is TOTALLY different from learning to do it yourself. You wouldn't learn to drive a car just by watching somebody do it.

Roxburgh says Ince will probably be the last one to get a top-flight job wigthout a pro-licence. Fair enough.

Ian Wright says the fact that Paul is black isn't relevant, so presumably he'd be making teh same comments if Beckham had just been appointed Blackburn manager?

Nicko: Do you think that Scholes and Giggs would be on Ince's radar? POSSIBLE...BUT CAN YOU SEE SIR FURIOUS SAYING 'YES' TO HIS OLD MATE?

And who do you think the experienced manager Ince want to join Rovers? PHIL THOMPSON RUMOUR IS INTERESTING, ROY EVANS MORE LIKELY.

Always happy to hear from you Nicko. Is Nicko italian? THE ONLY ITALIAN I HAVE IN ME IS AFTER A VISIT TO THE EXCELLENT BACI RESTAURANT IN LYMM.

Except its not. Getting your badges does not mean you know how to manage a club. Ince has proved he can manage to some degree by actually doing it. You could have all the badges and qualifications in the world but without a minute of experience in the real world. At least getting a driving licence does actually require you drive. These coaching qualifications seems more like the theory part of the test only.

The Maserati analogy is a bit weak considering the fact that not having a football "license" isn't likely to result in any deaths.

Not being trained to drive a car and getting in the driving seat might well do.

I can't disagree with Ian Wright (and The Sun) being loathsome, but I have to say I also find it very hard to disagree with this point he makes:

What he did at Macclesfield and then the MK Dons is a million times more useful than sitting in a classroom being taught by supposed football boffins.

Surely by going and learning his trade actually as a manager he's learnt at least some of what he would have learnt on those courses?

Or are we saying that the qualifications are the only yardstick - in that case, as I've got my 'B' licence I'm better qualified to manage a football club than RFW.

Nicko: Do you think that Scholes and Giggs would be on Ince's radar?

RFW on Hughes ' Mark Hughes is a warrior that you could trust your life with'.

RFW on Ince. 'He's a Big Time Charlie'.

Can't see many crumbs falling off that particular table personally.

A sinister fact in all this is that the old RFW did NOT object to BTC's lack of coaching badges ....... but then BRFC are NOT his favourite club are they?

Does getting your badges not require some practical experience then? I was under the impression that it did. If it's all just theory then it's relevance is limited, I agree.

It's just that with the amount of money now in the sport, it is a massive industry. You'd have to be very very good in any other industry to rise to teh top without any relevant qualifications.

I feel like I'm going out on a limb though, because I don't really know all the in's and out's of the badges.

And Bucky, if you mis-managed a football club, it might result in a few heart-attacks.

Mind you, the Wally has got his badges (I think) ... so if Ince makes a good job of it then it's not a good advert for the pro-licence, is it?

Do you think it's like the cubs, you sew your badges onto your sleeves or something?

Now be honest who would expect anything else from Ian Wright? How he gets paid for spouting shyte (and especially by the Bbc is beyong my comprehension. And anyway according to his greeting of guests on his show BTC is a 'bro' isn't he?

At this point and after reading the linked Mail article yesterday.....

here

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/...Ewood-Park.html

....am I alone in suspecting that Ince is actually illiterate? He displays all the classic signs of continual avoidance of the written word. If he is illiterate thats bad but I may afford him some sympathy but if he's simply missed all these appointments through being pig ignorant then thats another matter and far worse. <_<

This was my though when I first heard about his non-attendance. I didnt post as I dont want to be negative, and I thought it was a negative point. However, it makes more and more sence.

Myself, i cant spell, failed CSE English , BUT! I have a a decent job. So people take the michael a bit at my sentances / spelling. BUt I am respected for what I achieve.

Ince may well suceeed here at BRFC, If he does but fails to gain his badges....What then I wonder ?

liverpool would be interested for 12 million but will also try to swap players aswell??- any idea what players??

i personally think ince should get training with his squad before he brings players such as keith andrews in-keith andrews might of stood out in league 2 and in the mk dons squad-but were in a far superior league and we have much better quality players..

MK Dons fans seem to be ecstatic that we might take this Andrews guy as he is crap. They are even more excited we might be buying him for £2 million.

It has to be paper talk, like with half our team following Hughes. There is no way he can expect Andrews to step up to premiership level when he was average in League 2. He has to look at proven players at this level for his first few signings, then maybe branch out a little.

BURNLEY - Second signing - as promised - made. The big lad Kevin McDonald from Dundee, a good un and a tall one which is rare for the past few generations of Scots who seem to have suffered in their growth spurts since Maggie snatched the milk.

...and yet nothing announced down at McDingle Farm.

I told you there'd be dodgy signings from foreign shores too. A Peruvian with no hope of a work permit.

4 or 5 in this week? In my brother's dreams.

Come on Incey, show them how it's done.
