No, that's natural ability. Bryan Douglas could always do that. You either got it or you aint.

If absolutely any skill or technique could be coached, the players would all be brilliant, wouldn't they?

Not if the coaches arnt very good.

 This is one of the most hilarious arguements i've ever seen.

Come on, Lennon has been professionally coached for years, by two clubs famed for their ability to improve youth. He quite clearly has one major weakness - His blatent inability to cross a ball. They will have tried and tried to teach him this, but there are some things that people just can't get.

If anyone can be coached anything, then the ability of each and every club would depend on the quality of their coaches - This is obviously not the case. Technique can be taught, but only if a basic ability is there in the first place - And in the long run can only be taught so far.

Lennon is quick, relatively skilful on the ball, but has no end product whatsoever, because his game revolves around what he is doing. Bentley's ability relies on him being able to spot a runner, or read a game well, and deliver a quality ball some of the time. They will never morph into similar players, and Lennon will never make a decent cross in his life (deliberately)

Don't be daft. Anyone can see that this lot know better than the Manager and scouts who we should be going for <_<

I blame all these Champ Manager etc games myself.....................................................

To flip this on it's head for a moment - Mark Hughes, Mark Bowen et al must have been absolutely crap at getting players to take decent corners - in fact they've totally coached it out of Pedersen and Emerton!!

That is one area where Rovers simply can't get any worse, and it's been the case for years - it's so annoying! It's so flippin basic!

I'm more worried about who we are bringing in a backroom staff than who we are signing. We need someone who is forward thinking and experienced in the Premier League. Steve Round is a very highly rated coach and I'd be pleased if we brought him in. He had his CV blotted by having been at Newcastle over the last year and his contract is ending... Nicko, can you shed any light on who Ince is looking at?

An army SAS guy as fitness coach might work in the 4th league but is he experienced in getting Premier League footballers ready for 42 weeks of games...

These are my main areas of concern and I hope the backroom staff is sorted out quickly. I really can't see Mathias holding much sway with Premier League footballers no matter how nice a guy Nicko says he is...

How has being at Newcastle blotted his CV exactly? I would of thought being a part of the disastrous England set up put in place by McClaren would blot most of the page out tbh.

Who rates him highly anyway? Certainly not Kevin Keegan if he isn't prepared to give him a contract extension, Gareth Southgate kicked him out of the Smogs too so what can you tell us about his qualities that make him so highly rated?

It was the same under souness though. Emerton came in and he was really good at corners, then about 3 months later it was gone. It took MGP a little longer but they just can't seem to take them.

I wonder if they have a slope, similar to ewood pitch, on the training ground? or if the coaches just don't bother with them.

An army SAS guy doesn't have to mean Sergeant Hartman from Full Metal Jacket. There are perfectly normal people in the military as well.

You've took it the wrong way. I mean getting involved with Allardyce and the farce that went with it won't have done him any good. Steve McLaren is actually a decent coach and knows a decent coach when he sees one. He was just hopelessly out of his depth as England manager.

BTW seen as how your bringing Keegan into it I'll remind you that one thing he definitely doesn't know about is coaching. He's a known joke in that department. MASSIVE FACT.

Aaron Lennon will never be a great crosser of the ball but his game offers much more than that.

He's someone who will get to the touchline using his pace and look to play it back for one of the late runners rather than whipping crosses in from deep, the rest of his game is pretty good and he stood out when Martin Jol was boss as he suited Spurs fast counter attack and the great one touch football they played at the time, he hasn't looked the same player under Ramos as his style of play isn't suited.

£6 million or whatever he's been rumoured to be worth is a bargain.

What's Full Metal Jacket got to do with it? I have doubts as to if getting fit to be in the army is a similar type of fitness to playing 40 odd weeks of Premiership football. Maybe I'm wrong...

How about you pull up some of these MASSIVE FACTS so you can show how you arrived at that conclusion?

a player will not perform if he does not want to be at the club , bentley, maybe a better all round player than lennon , but if does not want to be here , than i would rather have a player who does even if that means lennon or pennant

Agreed. He'd be starting for England if his crosses were up to par.

I doubt he'll ever become a good crosser, but Duff wasn't the best crosser either when he first came through. He improved vastly though. There's a difference between crossing when you're full throttle forward and when you're not. Lennon usually has to cross while he's sprinting and that's no easy task - if he learns how to slow down first his accuracy might improve, but he can also pick out our strikers with a cross along the grass, something basically anyone can do.

Seriously mate, are yopu having a joke? This is a professional person you're talking about, he'd have to be thick to think he could take a bog standard army training course and apply it to Premiership footballers. As far as I remember he's qualified in sports science, the army thing is just mentioned in teh media for the cachet of it, presumably.

Didn't Ronaldo want to leave Man Utd after the last World cup over the whole thing with Rooney?

They refused to let him go and he went on to be the best player in the World.

It's well worth the gamble I'd suggest .

Certainly worth persevering with than someone who very many of the fans now heartily detest .

Get the best terms for Bentley .......and then give Lennon a chance . Our club has got good service out of players condemned by over opinionated posters on here before - I'm confident it could happen with someone who has the technical ability of a Lennon .

So Steve McClaren is a decent coach but Kevin Keegan is a joke as a coach?

How about you pull up some of these MASSIVE FACTS so you can show how you arrived at that conclusion?

McLaren: As a coach he has won the Champions League and IS respected as a good forward thinking COACH not MANAGER (but he has won a League Cup and Uefa Cup) as manager. Alex Ferguson knows how to employ a good coach and he took McLaren on and won the treble. I do think he's a nob though and he should never have been England manager, if he hadn't been he might have some credibility now. I respect him for going to Holland to rebuild his career in Holland. He is someone who embraces new methods...

Keegan: Was a cheque book manager in the 90's but did create an entertaining team before he threw his rattle out of the pram. No one has ever called him a good coach though and his training sessions at Man City were said to be dreadful. It's common knowledge that he doesn't coach. But he is (or was) a good motivator when everythings going his way. It might not be long before he has another nervous break down and runs off again so don't defend him too much, there's already been whispers. PS: He's won NOTHING as manager...

So he's a good coach because Alex Ferguson gave him a job?

When did he win the Uefa cup btw?

As for Keegan, you say it's common knowledge that he doesn't coach yet point to training sessions at Man City to knock him.

As for winning stuff as a manager, what has Mark Hughes won compared to Souness? Does that mean Souness is a better manager because he's won stuff?
