Hi Mack Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Just a question to all....... Why all this conjecture about Lennon? Has Lennon actually said that he wants to leave spuds nad sign for BRFC cos I've never seen any such report? No, pure speculation! Media puting 2 and 2 together but you can see it being offered to Rovers because Tottenham have spent big already and will want to get rid of a few! I was just offering my opinion on the fact if Lennon beacme an option!

speeeeeeedie Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Hmmm 4th Div manager is not good but 4th Div staff is taking the p1ss. They must be effin cheap. That scout will only have seen Prem players on the bloody telly! I thought you were letting it pass? I'd hardly think a masseur and ex-army fitness man have to be the world's greatest. What makes a Prem level masseur? Soft hands? Anyone can scout, it's the follow up work that's hard.

The likes of steve clarke, mark bowen and quieroz are IMO just as important as the manager! I wouldnt like to say who he'll appoint but think he will be a new face!
laughatthedingles Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Now back to more important matters, Nicko whats the crack with the bloody russians letting us down?
Jan Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Regarding Lennon, when Ince was appointed,i read an article about when he was at Mk on how he stayed behind at a training session, and helped his 2 central midfielders improve their crossfield passing by teaching them better body positions? If he could help somebody LIKE Lennon improve in that area, then Lennon may well be worth a gamble. Hold on- have you actually SEEN any 4th division fottball? If you had you'd realise that it is not only possible but necessary to teach players decent body position as a great number of them have NO discernable football skills and have had bog all one to one training. Their training is the 5 a side game/ running up and down method favoured by our last but one manager. Contrast that with the pampered primadonnas of the Premier League whose every move has been tracked, analysed and coached to death. Lennon has been to enough premier clubs for it to be fairly certain that his current performance level is as good as it will get.
American Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Hmmmmm, I'm not a lover of ststistics normally, but take a look at these stats. Look for Bentley and look for Lennon. Prem stats. "I'm not a lover of stats unless they back up my argument." Is what you are trying to say.....
Hi Mack Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Now back to more important matters, Nicko whats the crack with the bloody russians letting us down? Even more important matter Hitchen..............you getting the 1st round in tomorrow?
nicko Posted June 26, 2008 Author Posted June 26, 2008 Now back to more important matters, Nicko whats the crack with the bloody russians letting us down? Hopeless. Arshavin believing in his own publicity and could not handle going behind - somebody warned me about that when I backed them in the first place. Thanks to the miracle that is Betfair I managed to get off them soon after 1-0 and Spain will bring in a nice win on Sunday. But nowhere near the jackpot that was in view up until half-time. Still working...
vizcaya Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Spoke to one of my mates who is a Spuds-supporter. He made two points re Lennon: 1. He can run. Fast. That's about all he can. 2. Apparently he's got an attitude problem, a bit too much nightlife and not enough training/commitment. That's their opinion anyway...
yankrover Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 I don't love Lennon, but he is still only 21. He'll almost certainly get better.
Rover down South Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Have you ever kicked a football? If Lennon cannot cross a ball now then he never will be able to. Very competent midfielder thanks, so yes I have kicked a football thanks. How do you think Ronaldo got his free kicks perfectioned....because he worked at it until it was perfect. Lennon would have to focus on his weaknesse's to improve.
4ever&ever Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Its amazing how reading other peoples posts can change your opinions on players. Initially I thought it was an excellent proposal, (if true) Lennon + £10 million in exchange for Bentley. I have always rated Lennon but that was purely from seeing his pace and attacking ability, however as somebody suggested our team is reliant upon crosses from the wing, so we would have to change our whole strategy when attacking. The number of times that Cruz nodded in crosses from Bentley would be missed.
Hi Mack Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Nicko, you hear anything about that meeting, after the press conference between JW and Ince? Any decisions Targets made, or is it still all hush hush! After a couple of weeks of pandamonium its all gone quiet! July the 1st is the start of silly season again!

Any decisions Targets made, or is it still all hush hush! After a couple of weeks of pandamonium its all gone quiet! July the 1st is the start of silly season again! Just that the two priority positions are right back and attacking midfield. And that there are no plans to sell Bentley and Roque unless the money is silly. So if there is £10-15 million for two players that should guarantee a good one... That's how it stands just now but the whole market has yet to kick into action.

Nice one, I know what you mean when silly season starts anything can happen! stupid money gets talked about and clubs ask for millions more than their worth!
thenodrog Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 And that there are no plans to sell Bentley and Roque unless the money is silly. The first bit will upset a few on here who want to 'snatch people's hands off' for peanuts for David Bentley.
Plastic Head Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 I still think Lennon would be an OK purchase at £5mill but I doubt whether he has the potential to blossom like Bentley did. Think Lennon....think Tony Finnigan. He is totally unsuited to a club like ours in so many ways. He would definately be a complete failure here. Come to that name some players originating from the London area who have been long term a success here...Keeley, Sherwood (he ended up causing trouble)...that's all I can think of. If Spurs want Bentley they should stump up the Shekels or go buy some more foreign ponces.
den Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 QUOTE(thenodrog @ Jun 26 2008, 20:26 ) * Have you ever kicked a football? If Lennon cannot cross a ball now then he never will be able to. Celeano83 Err... Damien Duff, thenodrog??? Duffer could always cross a ball, even when he was at Brockhall as a youngster on the left wing, with jonty on the right. He was brilliant at it. Don't fall for this "Duff couldn't cross a ball until the coaches got hold of him" garbage.
den Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Too late... Lennon has other qualities about him, like pace, pace and err pace. Seriously, I think he'd bring another dimension to our style of play - when did we last have a pacey winger? Duff? We seriously miss someone on the wings to skin past people. Oh we lack pace - no doubt. Being able to create chances or score goals would be a bonus though.
thenodrog Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 QUOTE(thenodrog @ Jun 26 2008, 20:26 ) * Have you ever kicked a football? If Lennon cannot cross a ball now then he never will be able to. Err... Don't fall for this "Duff couldn't cross a ball until the coaches got hold of him" garbage. Correct Den and thanks. Damien Duff could cross a fantastic ball most times and even on the turn whilst running at 45 degrees toward the corner flag...... problem is he couldn't hit a proper shot on goal cleanly to save his bloody life!
Plastic Head Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Derbyshire could convert himself into a "Wilcox style" winger if he works hard at finding a yard and crossing the ball. Oh....and his first touch.
PAFELL Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Nicko, an out-of-the-blue request if you don't mind... As a sports journo, for one working day, can you give us a "day in the life of nicko"? I'd find it an interesting read and others might too, unless of course you're saving it all for your autobiography. That is not a bad suggestion, it would be interesting.
tonyoz Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 For those who haven't seen this article from April's Guardian, it gives an interesting insight into Paul Ince's management style. It addresses the point about whether certain skills can be improved or not: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2008/ap.../sport.comment1
Jan Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Oh we lack pace - no doubt. Being able to create chances or score goals would be a bonus though. Anyone else remember Donis bombing down the wing- mostly leaving the ball behind and almost always with no end result? For Lennon, think Donis but shorter and with less end product.
BRFCGrez Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Three or four others? More foreign no-marks? They'll no doubt fail in their attempts to get that keeper and the other 3 or 4 players will be over-inflated fees again. The gap is closing? Too far from the truth.
