I was thinking about the link in the press between RSC and Arsenal, it doesn’t sound right to me.

One of the main strengths with RSC is his ability in the air (in fact that was the main reason Hughes gave for bringing him in.) But Wenger doesn’t have Arsenal playing balls in the air, they don’t cross into the box, that isn’t their style of play.

So you have to question if there really is anything in this at all ?

Yes they do its just not there main way of playing adebayour was bought because they had no ariel threat up front and wenger publicly stated this was something they needed to change and they did. RSC does not have Ade's pace, but in a team like arsenals he would get goals. Although I would be gutted to see him go!

And, by the way, today has been a VERY good day. But for that you must wait until Sunday...

Nicko are we talking good day;

a) Takeover progress

B) Player talks progress ala Bentley/Cruz

c) Signing a new player/players?

-----------------------------------------------

Also, what kind of timeline would you put on this takeover if you could guess? I mean going on what you know, when do you reckon we should see a resolution to the takeover issue? Or will it just drag on for years...?

Oh and have the club released those financial records you were talking about yet?

Just ploughed through the last two days worth of this thread.

Jan made a very good point.

Taken huge encouragement from nicko saying that Roque and Bentley can only go for silly money and that an attacking midfielder is top of the want list. Glad that all this Lennon stuff is a load of cobblers.

I am actually beginning to feel pretty optimistic about the Ince regime now.

Who says its a good day for Rovers?

Maybe its just a good day for Nicko?!

Nicko a very good day for us? INTERESTING WOULD BE THE WORD.

Is there anything you can tell us about the Lennon and cash for Bentley deal? NOTHING DOING YET.

Id be happy for Lennon for Bentley and a top quality right back and attacking midfielder and possibly replacing Roberts with another good striker.

Do you think Roberts will be staying and if not are we looking at any strikers? I THINK ROBERTS COULD GO - BUT HIS WAGES AND FEE MAKES IT A DIFFICULT DEAL FOR ANYONE TO DO.

I'm pressuming that you don't do all that in order because that means by 10.38 am today you have - Got up - checked e-mails - checked Betfair - checked brfcs.com - got papers - cursed, swore, vowed never to work for those 'Cockney b******s' ever again - drank coffee - calmed down - picked up a couple of stories you had not cracked - cursed when the mobile phone goes to answer - had a break and writen a tale before you just teased us. ;)

I was talking about today...and just about every other day.

Hold on- have you actually SEEN any 4th division fottball? If you had you'd realise that it is not only possible but necessary to teach players decent body position as a great number of them have NO discernable football skills and have had bog all one to one training. Their training is the 5 a side game/ running up and down method favoured by our last but one manager.

Contrast that with the pampered primadonnas of the Premier League whose every move has been tracked, analysed and coached to death. Lennon has been to enough premier clubs for it to be fairly certain that his current performance level is as good as it will get.

He`s been at 2 clubs.

One that had just been relegated (so the coaching setup couldn`t have been that good!),from there he went to a club that has been known for the last few years to have some very good players, but has yet to break into the top four(even though every single season they are tipped to do so).Which begs the question was the coaching setup that good at Spurs pre Ramos?

Graeme Le Saux was just an average club player when he came to Ewood,he left an England player.

There are other players that have changed clubs and improved as a player.

I am only saying the same thing COULD happen to Lennon.Whether it would with a coaching setup that has just come from the bottom tier is another thing entirely.

Think Lennon....think Tony Finnigan.

He is totally unsuited to a club like ours in so many ways. He would definately be a complete failure here.

Come to that name some players originating from the London area who have been long term a success here...Keeley, Sherwood (he ended up causing trouble)...that's all I can think of.

Lennon is from a dodgy part of Leeds, a move back North may suit him as he'd be closer to home. I'd take him at the right price as he could do some damage given a decent run out.

Also, I think he was only 16/17 when he got into the team at Leeds (and that was only because of a lack of availale players at the time), so I'd hardly take that as an indicator of his performances. Personally, I don't see why (with a bit of coaching and some decent tactics) Lennon can't be an effective player for us. I appreciate he may never reach DB's levels at crossing the ball, but his pace might help with a more direct / counter attacking approach....

If we want to replace Bentley like for like, then take £15m+ in cash and invest the lot into a player that can cross the ball. I can't see that happening though, because there are very few players available who we could afford, will want to come to Rovers, who can cross as accurately and consistently as DB.

Better to try a different approach than struggle to replicate the current one in my opinion. A Lennon/SWP type outlet, with a very good creative central midfielder might be a more feasible option? At least the pace will stop the opposition pushing up, which in turn would give us more room to work with.

As an aside, I don't fancy Bert's chances of many overlapping runs if he's got to keep up with Lennon!

Great news:

Emmanuel Adebayor has ended speculation about his immediate future by announcing he is staying at Arsenal.

The Togo striker, who scored 30 goals in 48 games for Arsenal last season, has been a target for both Italian side AC Milan and Catalan club Barcelona.

But the 24-year-old said in Vienna on Friday: "I am an Arsenal player and have three years left on my contract.

"The most important thing for me is to keep on enjoying my football. I'm staying at Arsenal."

Come on people use your common sense!

Do you honestly believe that with the players we have and the likely system we will be playing that having Aaron "i cannot cross" Lennon would actually work?

Can you honestly see Roque feeding off his pathetic attempt to put the ball into the box.

Your entitled to your opinions but i feel you are being completley blinded by the obsession with pace that has developed in the game. Whats the point of having pace if you cant do anything with it other than running around like a headless chicken.

Have we got a fee, anything over 7 million is a joke. Ok, he played right wing for Sweden but when he was on the ball he never showed any glimpses of techincal ability. Is this the signing that will break Bolton's transfer record.

Is the Burnley signing the keeper Penny?

No, probably not, but that isn't to say I don't think he could be effective if used correctly. The same goes for SWP I guess.

He wouldn't be able to get a yard on his marker and send a 20-30yard inch perfect cross into the box like DB could, but he would be able to beat them for pace and get into a position where he could drive into the box or cut back from the byline.

He'd also give us an outlet for counter attacks and the off chance that we bother to put a man upfield from opposition set pieces, which at worst, would at least stop opposition teams being able to throw almost every outfield player into our area (something Hughes didn't try for some reason).

I doubt he'd be as effective as a good 'crossing midfielder' like DB is, but then, I think we'd have the same doubts regardless of who we could realistically replace DB with.

Who would you replace DB with?
