Quick couple of questions for Nicko:

1- How many players can you see us buying before the new season starts?

Think he said 2 - an attacking midfielder and a right back. However im sure that if bents goes for big bucks then we will sign a replacement for him and maybe 1 extra.

Nicko said when Hughes was here that a right back and attacking midfielder were priorities. Then a left midfielder to provide competition for Pedersen and maybe another striker should one come available at a good price. Of course if Santa and/or Bentley go they will have to be replaced. I don't see why this will have changed because of Ince's arrival.

Man City signing Jo for £18 million. Good day for those who just sit in a boozer and dream up tales...

Didn't you also say at one point that they wouldn't be able to pay for Jo?

Good day for those who hedge their stories?!? :P

Peruvian international keeper, Scotland under-21 midfielder, Northern Ireland striker, Norwegian left back who was wanted by Brann Bergen and Rangers.

Better than some they had last season - by a mile. Duff keepers for a start.

There are no better signings arriving at any Championship side.

And more to come - plus a profit on sales.

Not to mention finding the time to get a coaching badge or two... ;)

Why on Earth would anybody turn down Rangers for Burnley? Dont be daft.

Burnley are dwarfed by nearly half of the Championship and whilst Coyle maybe a decent managerial prospect some of those bigger clubs have decent managers too. Plus bigger budgets.

Calm down.

Coyle may edge the coaching badges but lets do a medals comparison. (plus clubs played at, transfer fees paid for, amount of times captained their country......)

Nicko's VERY good news for Rovers will be one of the following:

1. New assistant manager in place.

2. Transfer news.

3. Takeover moving forward.

4. Bentley staying.

Nicko could you tell us which one is it- no revealing details til Sunday!!

From Sky sports

"The Brazilian has been a long-term target of City, but he looks set to become new manager Mark Hughes' first signing for a club record fee."

and

"There have been previous fears that a possible third-party ownership of Jo, who is advised by Kia Joorabchian, would prevent the deal following new rulings by the Premier League. But a spokesman for Joorabchian recently said that there is nothing complicated in the proposed transfer and there is no issue of third-party ownership"

Heads I win .. tails you lose sparky. Hmmm murky and NOT a Hughes choice of player but if he fails to live up to expectations's Hughes will carry the can.

Man City are paying for Jo on the never-never, staged payments over four or five years. Nobody else would pay the full total CSKA wanted, so City got their man.

Hedgeing stories? You might want to check who broke it last January...

Moves and managerial changes don't go in straight lines. They happen over time and develop.

And as for the work permit, you better ask the wise men who sat on the appeal yesterday.

Farcical, but that's what football has turned into these days.

It seems everybody breaks the rules.

Rangers came in for Kalvenes while he was at Burnley on Thursday. McCoist is a big fan in particular. They wanted him to wait as they have another left back they are trying to sign - but he was the standby.

Coyley told the player and his agent to so sign or else forget it...he wasn't waiting. He signed.

Mind you, if you know better...

It's all offshore and he can't get his mitts on it (at the moment). That's what I recall reading anyway.

Mind you, I also recall reading that he was dead meat if he ever set foot inside China, not sure how true that is.

Carlo Cudicini the new name today, anything in this Nicko? Strange bringing in a 34 year old (a good one, though) considering Brad's consistancy and him not being prone to injuries. I would think having Jason Brown as his number two would make more sense, or at least buy a good, young goalkeeper for the future if we have to spend.

Just that the two priority positions are right back and attacking midfield.

And that there are no plans to sell Bentley and Roque unless the money is silly.

So if there is £10-15 million for two players that should guarantee a good one...

That's how it stands just now but the whole market has yet to kick into action.

Apologies if this has already been suggested and discussed, but this story appearing in today's Times made me think when reading your post Al:

"...Ajax have offered about £4.5million for Yossi Benayoun, who joined Liverpool from West Ham United for a similar fee last summer. ..." http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/foo...icle4228234.ece

Given my location, in true Parliamentary fashion I should declare an interest, in that The Rovers would be featured very heavily on the local EPL channel over here if we were to go in for him :tu: . Benayoun however, playing behind BMC & RSC would cause most teams problems, wouldn't they? Any possibility of Ince going back to his old club?

Also, the Anelka sale notwithstanding; how are BWFC raising the cash to lavish on journeymen players like Elmander? Was there anyone else chasing him, I can't remember seeing any other club linked with him?

Nicko, I saw an interview with Sam Allardyce in which he said that he rang John Williams to withdraw his application after "an incident". Any idea what this was?

Something about an angry local mob waving sharp instruments and shouting 'kill the beast.'

You could do worse than Benayoun...

Bolton trousered the Anelka money up front and haqve also shed a lot of wages recently.

Elmander's deal is in staged payments, so they can squeeze it into their budget.

Fulham fancied Elmander too and there was an interest in Germany. However Bolton pushed harder than anyone.

I'd be very happy with Benayoun. He'd solve a lot of problems, and might he even add that little extra that could enable RSC and BMC to work as a unit that little bit better? I think he just might.

There's the makings of a very believable rumour with the Liverpool connections too - Not a bad shout at all.

Surprised nobody asked me about the Rovers 'senior coach' appointment story...

It seems this only appeared in certain editions of the Mirror today. There is more I could say about that editiorial decision at this point, but probably better not.

Anyway...Paul Ince wants to recruit Archie Knox as the 'Premier League-experienced coach' he mentioned when he came.

Knox is on gardening leave at Bolton where he was assistant and briefly caretaker. He worked with Ince at Man U and is well-respected.

I understand that the way is being cleared for this to happen. It is not guaranteed but it is very likely to go through.
