Mr Creosote Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Why should Tottenham say Robbo should be in the deal. The deal is in our hands and they should realise that. I dont think we are as much in the box seat as we were as Spuds will now know we are soon going to be desperate for a keeper.

Wolves_Rover Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Rovers wanted to do it separately - Spurs said no, they wanted Bentley in the deal - that's where we are at. I said all the way through that this would be hard to nail down because THREE players are involved, when you include Brad. It HAS come a long way. It's just the last bit that can often be the hardest part. Thanks Nicko, A deal of this nature was never going to be sorted overnight I guess, Nice to know who stands where etc and have an idea of what might be.
BuckyRover Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Williams has categorically denied any interest from Rovers today. But then Nicko has said that Andrews himself thinks he is coming. Sounds to me like Ince promised to take Andrew with him when he moved on. But that conversation happend when it seemed Ince would be off to the Championship rather than the Prem.... Now he is at Rovers he has asessed things and decided that he would offer little to the team and is dropping him like a hot potato. Andrews is probably going to be a mite peed off. With us scrambling for the cash for Robinson, Castillo and Villenueva he hasn't got a snowbell in hell's chance... That's a pretty good shout Joey. Better than the popular "INCE IS DESTROYING THE TEAM, HE DOESN'T KNOW WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A PREMIERSHIP MIDFIELDER ANYMORE, HE IS A BURNLEY FAN AT HEART"
BRFC95 Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 I'm writing the Bentley story just now- Just slip in there that at 17m spuds have got him on the 'cheap'
neophox Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 I heard from a friend in Germany that Brad has left the squad today and travelled back to England. So it must mean that he's about to sign for Villa today? Can you confirm this Nicko?

leon Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Nicko - any idea if Bentley actually wants to go to Spuds? All his talk previously was about going to a CL club, which obviously they aren't. Does he just want to leave Rovers, or does he actually believe that he has a better chance of progression with Spuds, Villa, et al? Perhaps he's just realised what the rest of us have - if you play for Spurs, even if you are arse, and your team is arse, you still get in the England squad!
farhanology Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Hi Nicko, Assuming that too much hassle is done in haggling for Robinson, and/or Rovers does not meet the extorbitant Spurs valuation of Robinson, and assuming big Brad goes off, do you think the club believes that Jason Brown could do a job stepping up filling in Brad's gloves? Or does Ince have a second, relatively cheap keeper in the radar?

I think Bentley now sees Spurs as the right move for him at this time. Honestly, if you get £17 million for the kid you have swum the Channel. If Robinson does not come, Brad does not go. However I feel this will all come to an end in the next few days...even if it feels like it has been going on for years.
LeChuck Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 CARLOS VILLENUEVA - ... He is, as you will see, ledft-footed. He is NOT the right winger I hinted at - that one is off. At 5ft 8in Villanueva is small but skilful, and would fill the gap if David Bentley leaves. Make your mind up Alan. The kid does look a bit special though, and at that price we really couldn't go wrong.

There's quite a big 'if' there though isn't there? but, if £17m is the business price we'll either get it or have a (probably stroppy) Bentley in our squad next term.
nicko Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Make your mind up Alan. The kid does look a bit special though, and at that price we really couldn't go wrong. As a crowd-pleaser and taker of goal-scoring free kicks. Do you have a degree in nit-picking? Maybe not as big an 'if' as you imagine. Make your mind up Alan. The kid does look a bit special though, and at that price we really couldn't go wrong. FROM TODAY'S STORY... He is also a free-kick specialist who would fill that gap at Rovers if David Bentley leaves.
LeChuck Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 As a crowd-pleaser and taker of goal-scoring free kicks. Do you have a degree in nit-picking? Unfortunately, no. I was only joking by the way...don't take it to heart. It would be interesting to see where he would fit in to the side. On the videos he seems to appear in all areas of the pitch, so maybe ideally he'd play in the centre of a 4-2-3-1...which would also suit Ince's alleged liking for wingers and a lone striker.
rovgers Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Does anybody know where I can get a new f5 button, I seem to be overworking mine these days. Very interesting times lie ahead for us and at last it seems to be good news!
Tris Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Tris said that Brad wanted out No Tris didn't Tris also said he would only go to Man City No Tris didn't

I'm quite happy with that - I'm just curious as to how the lad's mind works. Seems funny to go on about CL football, furthering career, etc, and go for a step sideways, or at the most, slightly upwards (if you are looking at stature in the game rather than the league position, trophies, etc). If I was him, I'd be asking my agent to tout me around the European clubs. That really would be a learning experience for him and could be the thing to really push him up to the next level. Actually, if I was him I'd probably be rolling up £50 notes and smoking them. Oh to be a premiership footballer.
LeChuck Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Seems funny to go on about CL football That's a myth that has slowly developed on here for some reason. In his intoxicated interview with SSN he said something like "I'd like to be playing Champion's League or European football", which to me sounds like he'd be happy with the UEFA Cup. Teams like Tottenham, Man City and Aston Villa can offer him this...so in that sense it would be a step forward.
modes98 Posted July 18, 2008 Author Posted July 18, 2008 No Tris didn't lol, Maybe my memory is failing me in my old age. I could have sworn you said if he left it would be to join up with Hughes. So Brad is flying to Denmark then Nicko? Do you know where Robinson is at the moment? Has he been allowed to talk to us, pending any move, etc?

Yes, they can this season but if you think that 2 of the teams got into europe via the back door (intertoto and fair play) theres no guarantee that they be in europe every year, unlike the big four.
1&OnlyRover Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 nicko, tell us that this is not true http://community.footballpools.com/blog/20...onal-playmaker/ what stage are they at after making a bid, have his club accepted it yet. also if anyone sees unleaded give him a call, he might get an interview on carlos villaneuva like he did for castillo

rovgers Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 I hope that we have put in the first bid and put us in the driving seat. we need to act fast and get him here if he's that good.
