nicko Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 Nicko, any idea on the "mystery" club in for Nicola Zigic? Yes, but he's not going there...so I will leave that one in the 'one that got away' tray.
Zulu Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 Garners, I love the Dixie Dingle photo - seen it here many a time. I can figure out the gist of it but can someone tell me the actual sequence of events, before and after the piccy please? Did he get a second arsehole tore out etc? Apologies to you guys if it's a boring question, cos I'm sure you all know exactly what happened, but I genuinely don't. Thanks
FeedTheHare Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 Yes, but he's not going there...so I will leave that one in the 'one that got away' tray. Fair enough. Any chance of a clue as to who it was?
nicko Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 Just a minor update, but possibly significant. Rovers watched Stuttgart's UEFA Cup qualifier with Saturn in Russia yesterday to see Osorio...but he didn't start. I wonder how that will affect his chances of moving...can't help. Fair enough. Any chance of a clue as to who it was? Put it this way, they just signed another bang-average striker instead...

So what other right backs are they looking at besides osorio?
nicko Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 So what other right backs are they looking at besides osorio? Once they have watched them I will let you know...this one may take a couple of weeks. All of the other deals have moved very fast. So no need to worry.
roverfanuk Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 Nicko, quick question. Roque Santa Cruz was again linked with a move to Arsenal in the Sunday Times today. The supposed price is 11.5 million. Isnt that a bit cheap? I know Arsene has to have this, sell high buy cheap process (to pay for their stadium for anyone who didnt read the article about Arsene the other day), but surely Rovers wouldnt be interested in selling that cheap? Tell me that article is a load of rubbish...? Surely we wouldnt sell Bentley for £17 million, and Roque for 11.5 million?? http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/foo...icle4364066.ece Alan's article today if anyone hasn't read it: http://www.people.co.uk/sport/football/tm_...-name_page.html
Hi Mack Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 Winner of today's star prize... YEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSS! do i get the 11pm'er early as my prize?
Ozz Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 Garners, I love the Dixie Dingle photo - seen it here many a time. I can figure out the gist of it but can someone tell me the actual sequence of events, before and after the piccy please? Did he get a second arsehole tore out etc? Apologies to you guys if it's a boring question, cos I'm sure you all know exactly what happened, but I genuinely don't. Thanks It was in the FA cup match at Turf Moor in one of our recent runs to the semi finals, 2005 I think-Hughes first season. Feb 20th 2005. Nil nil, and we won the replay 2-1, late winner from MGP! The bone head on the pitch just ran on half way though the second half, thinking he could take on the Rovers players in some sort of way. He was escorted off the pitch, and given a position on Burnley Borough Council.
roversmum Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 There was also a streaker, who was allowed to cavort about unhindered doing cartwheels whilst all their stewards gawped at him until someone from our bench gave him a pair of shorts! After the match a row of Burnley supporters were in the club opposite the ground with their bare bottoms pressed up against the windows as the coaches drove past. They probably weren't used to the warm February weather. Further up the road a group of children of about six were held back by a policeman lest they attack the coaches ...................... Fun afternoon, that.
Zulu Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 Thanks Ozzie. We had a similar experience in a pre-season friendly in Darfur, East Lancs a couple of seasons ago. Here's a piccy of the young scally threatening a group of women and children from Bolton. Do they all walk like that in Burnley? I would love to say that he was immediately choked to death with a bag of crisps by the young lass in the stripey top - but he just got led away by the rozzers! I would be delighted if someone had the technical nous to make that picture bigger, by the way! (Oh, and thanks Roversmum too!)
Hi Mack Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 why was my last post deleted? The "I think Ince should Hijack the Chimbonda deal" post? A bit off topic.
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 Dixie (his real nickname by all accounts) ran from the Jimmy Mac stand behind the goal up to the half way line and then was persued keystone cop fashion on the pitch by the boys in blue after assualting a female pc.The sight of him waving his arms in circular motions as he tried to avoid capture made the day of the 4,000+ Rovers fans at Turf morgue. They cant take these 'big' games with East Lancashires finest..they occur VERY infrequently you know!!
1&OnlyRover Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 nicko, according to your article today youve mentioned that "Castillo is going to arrive on similar on similar terms as Carlos Villaneuva, so is going to be another season long loan, so if you look at it we get both Villaneuva and Castillo in on loan we will have brought in 2 players without dipping into the transfer kitty
SAS Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 Was`nt he targetting robbie savage, but soon poo`d his pants when nelsen and reidy confronted him

Don't want to get to December, find out we have two world beaters in the side and then have no money to pay the relatively modest fees for them.
philipl Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 True but I wouldve thought we'd want to keep that money back either way. Don't want to get to December, find out we have two world beaters in the side and then have no money to pay the relatively modest fees for them. Well we could always sell Bentley to Spurs in the January window.. Seriously, Rovers have significant unused borrowing capacity both in absolute terms and relative to most other Premiership clubs. If we need to borrow £10m from the banks on 31 December, chances are we will be able to.
1&OnlyRover Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 nicko, according to this rovers are looking at £5million belleti, good player no doubt, loves to get forward and scored a few crackers last seson but maybe slowing down a bit http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport...icle1443622.ece

Tom 1 Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 Tom ,If you're saying Scharner's not good enough for Villa you must be the sort of fan who only ever watches one team. Scharner's a top class player who can play in several positions, funnily enough the same positions as a certain Villa player who's been linked with Liverpool, I'd find a place for him at Rovers no problem. The other guy , I've never seen him play. No I keep a close eye on everyone and i've had an ST for years, my rage is at the Simpson thing. I just cannot fathom how a position can be this much of a clear problem for years and instead of sorting it (and there ARE right backs in the market am sure) then why loan out and be Uniteds feeder club. Do people not remember the last right back we loaned from Man United, he was absolutely awful. Simpson might do all well and good but then he goes back and we're back to square one, I want to build a team of players who's actually going to stay here long term! I'm not bothered about Scharner either way, we sign him then fine we don't then fine as well. We need depth and versatility and he fits the bill.
