Paulsman Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Do you know if the new bid from Newcastle was accepted / rejected etc Nicko?
nicko Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Do you know if the new bid from Newcastle was accepted / rejected etc Nicko? It won't be accepted at that level, but I am stunned that this has not been ended. Makes you think it could happen...strange one.
Bobby G Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Would be disappointing if he didnt join...Castillo I mean.
nicko Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Would be disappointing if he didnt join...Castillo I mean. Castillo said he was coming to sign and he had a three-year contract. Rovers now say they are 'taking a look first.' I wonder what Castillo will say when he reads that quote.
socngill Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Seems like the boss really wants Robbie...but might not be so sure about Castillo... http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport...burn_boss_Ince/ It just says that he had a 20 hour flight and so they have not really been able to get an idea yet, but will over the next few days. Doesn't really suggest Ince doesn't want him though. Definitely a trial though as Ince made the comment "You don't just buy players on people's hearsay". As for the Newcastle and Warnock saga, I think somebody needs to tell Keegan that prices have gone up since he was last involved in football £6-8m would be his market value - but when a club don't want to sell it will cost you more. I mean is Berbatov really worth £20m+, or Bentley £18m????
hawkiiz Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 i thought toons were looking to get rid of the big earnes this summer? why not offload first and see what they are left with and what they need...if prio is to get wages DOWN i dont see how signing warnock is on the table
socngill Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Castillo said he was coming to sign and he had a three-year contract. Rovers now say they are 'taking a look first.' I wonder what Castillo will say when he reads that quote. Could it be that a 3-year deal is on the table if he impresses Ince and his team? I very much doubt if he is training for a club, having not actually signed anything and is oblivious to the fact that he is having a trial... Seems highly unlikely.
EwoodGlory Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Hopefully he can't read English Can we not put in a £500k bid for Beye or something, and see how Newcastle respond.
Paulsman Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 I know for a fact that the whole "Newcastle are cutting back on wages" thing is nonsense, just media stirring. The thing with Warnock is, he's never been a "fashionable" player, therefore clubs (not just Newcastle, many clubs act like this aswell) will try and get him on the cheap. The "fashionable" left backs in the country at the minute are Bridge and Shorey, both of which get a lot of positive press. For some reason just because they get more press, this translates into higher transfer fees.

Castillo said quite specifically before he came that he 'wasn't going on trial' because he 'wasn't a kid' and it turns out he is being watched in training before Rovers make a decision. This one is going to have to be watched very closely.
Veevs Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Well the only thing bothering me about this is where we might have been if Hughes - who by and large could spot good player - had been given the cash in the first place. And that we seem to be finding a lot of cash in real terms for a manager without any buying history at this level. If it works out we'll be pushing fourth place - if it doesn't - have we any margin of error left? Nice to know the trust see the value of the investment. Perhaps the empty Walkersteel plant has focussed a few minds. We actually got a large chunk of the cash from hughs going.. plus a chunk for not having to pay him and his team for a while.. Only other difference is the trust putting the fund back in place but that was kind of expected as a new manager has arrived, most new managers seem to get a fun to make the squad their own.
joey_big_nose Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Castillo said quite specifically before he came that he 'wasn't going on trial' because he 'wasn't a kid' and it turns out he is being watched in training before Rovers make a decision. This one is going to have to be watched very closely. I think we will be alright providing that no one else swoops in, which at present doesn't look likely. We can look over him as he has nowhere else to go. To be honest if I was Ince I would be pretty alarmed that he is jumping the gun so much, saying he has a contract etc when he hasn't. It suggests a few ego issues and also suggests he is trying to rush things because he has something to hide. I imagine the observation in training is to see what he is like as a character as much as his quality. We don't want to sign a complete knob jockey unless they are really worth it (a la Bellamy).
1&OnlyRover Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 nicko, do you think that rovers will be able to agree a fee for robinson, beacuse you said last week that this deal should be completed and fridel would have joined villa, yet speaking nothing sems to have budged yet apart from villa have come in with a bid which is no surprise, at this rate, it may be christmas before they agree anything Also any news on right winger being looked at, and right back - any one worth getting excited over like Carlos Villaneuva

Villa's offer is better but it will still take Tottenham accepting an offer for Robinson. It's like a dog chasing its tail. Only not as funny.
alexanders Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Nicko, concerning Castillo. Do you think he will play in the Rovers shirt next season? Considering Ince's quotes, i get an impression that he isn't bankers yet.
Blue n White Rover Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 It looks like Castillo is on a trial which again you have to give full credit to Ince and Jw for making this happen. Ince can take a good look at him and being a midfielder himself he will know if he is good enough. If it doesn't happen then I won't be to disappointed, because I trust Ince's judgement on this. Any new developments on the 4 that were going to Sunderland and anything on Bentley?
1&OnlyRover Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 apprently were in for a mystery winger I saw maloney of villa yesterday on SSN hes a class player, wouldnt mind him at rovers
RevidgeBlue Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 It's like a dog chasing its tail. Only not as funny. It's no biggy from our point of view though is it? The situation wasn't of our making and whilst it would be a real coup to replace Brad with Robinson at little extra cost, it's no problem if he stays either. Can't see him suddenly going down with a plague of mystery ailments like Mr. Bentley.

Considering Ince's quotes, i get an impression that he isn't bankers yet. I would say Castillo is just 50-50. It is not the cut and dried deal that the player thought it was. Mind you, where are you going to get the strong-running midfielder you want for a similar price?
socngill Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11676_3852706,00.html Oh it's Christmas come early!!! Please tell me this is true Nicko? 5 people chasing the "Rovers Star". It just goes to show that nobody watches us these days.

I would still say it is likely, but when you deal wth Spurs - and they want one of your players - it is a long slow and annoying process.
RevidgeBlue Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 We have almost completed the signing of two south american midfielders that look like a massive creativity improvement. Other than that its just speculation and rumours. By the same token, whilst we haven't sold anyone, the two South Americans could be far from completed. We only seem to be taking a look at Castillo, and there are ownership issues to resolve, and Villanueva hasn't even linked up with the squad yet.

Sounds like agents talk...the old 'ignore any stories with five clubs after one player' rule applies here.
