Fylde Coast Fan Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Wouldn't that be better than straight cash, considering Arsenal's supposed percentage of sell on fee? I guess it all depends on if we really rate Robinson as our best option. I'd rather have him than Green to be honest on the basis that Green has had one decent season, whereas Robinson has had many more. But that's not to say Green won't overtake Robinson as the better future goalie. The trouble with a cash plus player deal is that the value of Robinson becomes a factor. We would argue that Bentley sold for £13.5m because we big £3.5m for Robinson. Arsenal would have a strong case in saying "Spurs valued Robinson at £6m so the Bentley deal was worth £16m total", because Spurs did state more than once they wanted £6m for him. If we took £10m plus Robinson we would end up paying Arsenal £6.5m (16-3 divided by 2), so we only have £3.5m to spend on a replacement for Bentley.

Zulu Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 A couple of you guys mentioned Al Habsi from Bolton and some of you dismissed the notion. Let me tell you this guy is a very good keeper. He may not be too happy about the new four-year deal that Jaaskelainen has just signed. I hope he doesn't go up the Devil's road because I believe that any Premier League club needs two quality keepers and we have them in Jaaskelainen and Al Habsi. I do rate Friedel and he will be difficult to replace. I rate Al Habsi to be comparable to Robinson today - and he's a lot younger too. Someone will have a big job restoring Robinson's confidence wherever he goes after Spuds.
Hughesy Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Best way is Bentley goes for £14m, we pay £500k for Robinson in seperate deal. Same profit of £13.5m on bentley, only difference is Arsenal only get a cut of £11m (14-3) rather than £14m. Im sure Tottenham would be happy to screw Arsenal over too! Nicko - Thanks as always. Do you think its likely that Spurs will offer for Bentley before they look at Arshavin? Just a horrible thought they may try to drag our deal out and complete that one first?

orwot Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Just because it deserves to be noticed by all; It's all going downhill for Hughesy now... first his boss might be getting jailed, leaving him with no funds... now he's soo far down the ropes he's appearing on Jeremy Kyle! Should have stayed at Rovers! LMAO!!! alomst cryin' when that loaded; with a bit more of a welsh twinge on his accent, that could be hughesy in 10 years no prob.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 It'd save us money if we got Robinson in the deal by my reckoning. Say there was a 10% clause and assume Robinson is worth 4 million. We get Robinson and 14 million - Le Arse get 1.4 million - we end up with Robinson and 12.6 million. We sell Bentley 18 million - Buy Robinson say 4 million, plus 1.8 million for Arse - we end up with Robinson and 12.2 million.

We have to pay Arsenal on the value of the transfer, not the amount of cash received. Doesn't matter if we take £18m worth of jelly babies, Zimbabwean dollars or any ratio of player plus cash - Wenger gets the same. The club want to do it as an all cash deal because it removes the uncertainty and room for argument from the issue - whatever we declare as Robinson's value in the transfer will be taken by Arsenal to be an attempt to fiddle them out of their fair share. We'd do exactly the same in their situation.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Ah, turd. It's times like these you kinda wish you had BFS and his brown paper bags lying around... EDIT: It changes bullocks to "Very Good". Odd.
orwot Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 just hope this whole drama ends before Chinese Democracy is released before eternity? possibly... 10% sell on fee? try closer to 50...

I rate Al Habsi to be comparable to Robinson today - and he's a lot younger too. Someone will have a big job restoring Robinson's confidence wherever he goes after Spuds. Al Habsi has alot of promise for the future but I wouldnt say he is in that top bracket of prem league keepers yet. Robinson on form is! Id much prefer us to go with an experienced prem keeper like him over your 2nc choice. I don't believe it is 50% Me neither mate
rebelmswar Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 I don't believe it is 50% I can not see that getting by the board to be honest. I had Williams down for better than that. I feel 25-35% might be the real figure.
Rover down South Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 I don't believe it is 50% I read last week on an Arsenal forum that it is 20-25%. I'm not saying Nicko is wrong, but that is what read.
rog of the rovers Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 ahh sorry! Looking for posts around 11pm. I do apologise.
67splitscreen Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 It is in black and white so to say. Weather is gospel, Who knows. http://www.arsenal.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=508122
EwoodGlory Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Is it true that Rangers are set to sign Davis from Fulham, in the very near future, after Fulham dropped the asking price? Relevant to Rovers, as we have been linked with him recently.
Hughesy Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Lifted from here or something in it? Robinson to Rovers
Paulsman Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 When you say that the WARNOCK thing is still live, does that mean Blackburn haven't rejected Newcastles bid.
roverfanuk Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 At this rate, Ince is going to sell more players in the space of 2 months then Hughes purchased in his whole stay at the club... One thing i liked about Hughes was he didnt chop and change the squad in bulk, which i think kept it settled and made it able to know each and every player. Granted for the likes of Friedel and Bentley, i don't really think Ince has a choice! At this rate, were going to start the season with half a new squad if not more. They are going to be playing each other not knowing what to expect. It's very worrying... To the best of our abilities, this is what seems most likely at the moment: Ins - Segundo Castillo, Carlos Villanueva, Robbie Fowler, Paul Robinson, Keith Andrews and Ricardo Osorio. Outs (including frees) - Bentley, Berner, Henchoz, Encks, Friedel, (possibly) Warnock, (possibly) Santa Cruz It seems rather sad that we have all forgotten about cutting loose our lesser players, ie, Mokoena, Gally, Rigters and building on what we have got (better players), and now we are worrying about loosing the better players. If it continues in this fashion, i don't see how clubs which are financed such as ours will ever be able to stay in the top 10 and achieve European football. Something which is related to young England players coming through, ie, kids playing football on the roadside in a small Lancs town. It's all about who can poach young up and coming Spanish/French/Portugese players now for hard cash. Their is no doubting that if we dont pull of a couple of very good transfers, it will have been a poor window for us. We need to replace Bentley like for like, that in my opinion is certain. We also need to bring in a couple of proven Premier League quality players. Im all in favour of going for the Segundo's and Carlos's of this world, but we need a couple of proven Premier League players too. It's way too risky without!
tcj_jones Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Roverfankuk, we have agreed a fee with Villa for Friedel. I'd say he's as good as out the door.
Drakefyre Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Apparently Stoke want Mokoena, and there have been no bids for Santa Cruz. No accepted bids for Bentley or Warnock either. I doubt Warnock will leave - this is what happens every summer. Our best players are linked elsewhere and usually end up staying. We still have Pedersen, Reid, Nelsen, and Benni, remember? Relax.
LeChuck Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 The Warnock thing doesn't seem to want to go away...but I'm positive he'll stay. Newcastle already have a very able left back in Jose Enrique, I can't see them pursuing it for very long.
