I can't recall Hughes selling any players for big money? He didn't want to sell Bellers and fought tooth and nail to keep hold of the rest of the squad. beyond selling those who were no longer good enough, I don't think he could have been classed as a selling manager at all. Or were you expecting him to sell Bentley and Cruz for big money, having brought them in for peanuts? just like he did with Benni?

Hughes was about squad improvement. Replacing a player with a better one was his forte. Who the hell could ever have imagined replacing Stead, Dickov and Kuqi (2.5m ffs!) with any 4 from Bellamy, Roberts, Derbyshire, BennyM and RSC for about the price of Spurs reserve keeper?? Neill replaced by Warnock, Todd / Samba, Nissa / Nelsen. In comparison to what has gone before AND the scenario with other clubs the man was a genius and we have been denied the next level up where he would have had maybe 15m-20m to play with after the sale of Bentley and maybe the same again from RSC.

You having a laugh half-wit.

Half wit eh Will? 'Half a loaf is better than none' .... as they say. :wstu:

I was commenting on your description of rovers as a selling club, and using Hughes to highlight that. To me squad improvement does not make you a selling club. What makes you a selling club is accepting any decent offer that come in for your players - we never did that under Hughes unless that player was a fringe squad player. There have always been offers for our players over the last few seasons - Nelsen, Gamst, Benni, Bentley to name the obvious ones. But we have always refused to sell. That is not a selling club - it's a progressive club.

Thinks he should be playing in the Champions League

But where has he ever said that? In his drunken SSN interview he said "Champion's League or Europe", to the best of my knowledge he's never said he thinks he should be playing in the CL.

He probably wants to, but that's totally different, every player wants to. He's only ever said excellent things about the club, fans and the general set-up...his words could easily persuade other up and coming stars that Ewood is the best place to nurture their talents.

Despite his brilliant full England debut and excellent performances for us, he's still being overlooked for an aging Beckham on the right for England. Maybe he's probably come to the conclusion that he needs to be playing at the highest level possible if he wants to be starting in the World Cup in two years time.

Has it really come to the point that we'll boo any player who wants to try and progress their career? I could understand it if he was refusing to play/train or slagging us off in the press...but he's not. He turned up for pre-season, didn't appear to be sulking in the slightest in the pictures, and still says that we're a wonderful club when the issue of him wanting away comes up.

It's very, very childish to react like you are.

Perhaps if he wanted it that badly you might have thought he (along with the rest of the team) might have at least broke sweat against Birmingham in the last game of last season. Worse still neither he or the other ten looked remotely arsed that we had got beat.

It's ironic that Bentley goes on about being in Europe. If he had squared that ball to Roberts and not tried shooting against Fulham before Bullard equalised we would have won the game and probably been in Europe.

Well if you want to be like that - if he hadn't been our best player all season, and provided a fair few goals and loads of assists we wouldn't have got anywhere near Europe

And if he hadn't done all the brilliant things he did, we would have finished in the bottom half.

Correct. Watching the DVD review of last season, it's amazing how many goals Bentley set up, mostly for Santa Cruz.

One member on here that I was supping ale with the other neet reckons that Friedel's gaff at Brum (which led to us losing out on our European place to Villa) was done on purpose cos he was already lined up to go to Villa back then.

Of course I could never believe such rubbish.

Good point! RSC couldn't score in a brothel before he came here! Maybe we'd better be selling RSC before anybody else cottons on.

What would that make the bloke who's your uncle at the mement? Your auntie's gay lover? But surely they would be lesbians, and not gay?

And how would your Mum feel about it?

Well that's made everyone shut up.

Yes indeed. I am surprised though as lesbians are much more accepted in society than gays.
