[Archived] Brad's Replacement

Recommended Posts

Ah, but you didn't say they gave you their opinion. You said they told you as though they knew.

It might be there opinion or it might be what they have been told. I have said what they told me.

Doesn't it seem that a lot of people do believe they are the experts and will do all they can to try and make out that they are better informed.

All we can do is wait to see what happens. Then we can judge therm.

According to one of the Sunday tabloids I glanced at this morning, because Ince was digging his heels in over Friedel, Villa were turning their attention to Robert Green as a possible target.

Read that too. But is it manipulation to get us to sell? Or is it genuine?

If the tragedy happens, the only suitable replacement from the Prem I'd say would be Green. The praise for Robinson makes me shake my head to be honest. We would be hard-pressed to find a bigger failure of a player. To go from Friedel to him is just mind-boggling. Robinson is one of the last players I'd want to see at Ewood Park.

Right, because youth coaches are told who is being bought/sold?

They might not be told directly, however you'd be amazed at what can be over heard.

How the heck do you think Nicko and his mates in the media get to know things.

I wil say it again and again, but the best keepers in the world have had bad periods in their careers. Robinson ive seen make some realy, cracking saves, yet people always tend to forget that, and look at the blunders he has made.apart from last season, It was calamity James for so many years ,he is 38 i think and only finding his feet now.keepers realy peak in their mid to late 30's. Robinson, just needs a change and he wil be better player because of it.

I never realised two out of form keepers and Robert Green were the only three goalkeepers in world football...

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAH... Hang on a minute, Robert Green was superb last season and has been progressing very well ever since he joined West Ham. How on earth he didn't get an England call is beyond me.

Of course, none of Robinson, Carson or Green are in the same league as Friedel, but I think that we're extremely lucky to have three quality keepers available. We wouldnt have had this luck last season. Cudicini would also be a cracking replacement.

because no one from the very top would speak to them about issues like that. I'm not doubting that they said that to you, but they could have come on here and read the various threads and then been able to say "Friedel looks like he will go, Robinson has been chosen as the replacement".

Ah, but you didn't say they gave you their opinion. You said they told you as though they knew.

Come on guys give the lad a break! Football clubs are gossip monsters, news spreads like wild fire.

Exactly like schools, offices or hospitals or just about any other place where people work together. However, not all of it is true and there are always some who seem to know everything and others who think they do. All i said was that the guy who posted it said it as if the people who had told him knew when in fact it was their opinion/ the feeling they got/ rumour. We all do it but we also, most of us, know to take it with a pinch of salt till we hear it from those who actually know.

Thanks for explaining how gossip works, It had always baffled me before. Picking up on people's grammatical errors and none eloquent use of the English language, must be a real kick. I'm glad you managed to describe yourself in your last post, its quite depressing really to see someone come on here post what he's heard and then have you, chastise him for it! Whether its true or not, by your very own expansive explanation should you not have taken the higher moral ground and just left alone.

Brilliant news. I mean, if Brad were two or three years younger I'd be distraught, but the reality is he has one or two years left at the top and we've managed to sort ourselves out for the foreseeable future...something I was very concerned we wouldn't be able to do when Brad retired.

Fantastic news, he may well be an important factor in Robinson joining us. Now that we have lost Brad it is of massive importance that we get a quality keeper in right away. Hopefully we'll see the Robinson of three seasons ago and not the Robinson of late.

How good he is is completely irrelevant. Villa completely blew us out of the water by offering him far more money than we sensibly could.

Brad could have turned it down, but taking the blue and white tinted specs off, would have been pretty daft to.

Having said all that, I don't think we've handled this very well today. By accepting Villa's offer (subject to conditions) we've

1) Conceded the moral high ground to Brad. Instead of telling him he's under contract etc. the onus now sort of switches to us to conclude a deal elsewhere.

2) Given other clubs (including Spurs) carte blanche to screw us into the ground on the price of their keeper.

I've backed Rovers JW and Ince all the way on this but the way it is now developing is getting worrying.

Robinson in, Friedel out seems good long term business.

Friedel out, no real idea who's coming in, is bonkers.

Personally, unless Spurs demands for Robinson are totally outrageous, I'd pay it. 3.5m seems on the low side to me and if any add ons are linked to England appearances etc. his value will increase anyway.

Whoops, if that's true, ignore my previous post.

Great news if true.

Rev, you've also missed the point that the acceptance of Villa's offer is subject to us getting an offer accepted for another goalkeeper first...

Friedel out, no real idea who's coming in, is bonkers.

...which makes this scenario virtually impossible. :)

Well, not quite, if the two deals were practically simultaneous job's a good 'un.

If we'd told Friedel he could go (subject to conditions) without being any nearer signing Robinson, that would have put us in a very weak bargaining position all round.

If it goes through, tremendous bit of business by Ince imo. We weren't expecting it to crop up quite so soon, but assuming it goes through we've solved the "How the hell do we replace Friedel?" conundrum we've all had in the back of our minds for years.

For a net 800k?

Edit: if it goes through as planned, thenodrog will be delighted that his mate Paul Ince has followed his previous advice so faithfully: i.e. get the replacement in before you sell!.

I can't see how the "how the hell do we replace Friedel" conundrum will be solved by signing one of the worst keepers in the league...
