rebelmswar Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 How could it turn into a Tevez saga? Some big club will want him and use some serious paperwork and legal tripe to turn his head. I may just be hung over and twitchy, if this is not possible please feel free to tell me how.
LeChuck Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 Rovers might not be making a big deal of this, but the media certainly are. We're headline news on the BBC website; fantastic publicity for the club.

philipl Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 Yes Matt, good to see the Rovers getting prominent coverage all day on the BBC web site. Presumably the unveiling will take place at the isolation unit at a local Hospital?
RevidgeBlue Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 Presumably the unveiling will take place at the isolation unit at a local Hospital? Very good for you that philip! I'm really looking forward to seeing this lad play, the one thing that worries me is that if he turns out to be an absolute sensation, a "bigger" club will just pinch him off us. Maybe if he settles quickly and is quite obviously the real deal we can finalise a permanent transfer at an early stage.
vyeo Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 Going by the reports, it actually sounds cast-iron that villanueva's ours as long as we want him. He has apparently agreed terms to on the three year deal, while his club has also agreed to the 4m pounds fee, both to kick in should rovers choose to exercise it. It therefore appears to be that if we want him, we simply pay up (ie: he's already bonded to us). The club has used a similar tactic before when negotiation ooijer's contract, by inserting the 3rd-year clause to be exercised solely on our discretion (which we did, despite talk of ooijer wanting to leave). I think credit is due to John Williams for cutting a superb deal.

Am happy about doing the agreement with both parties to cover us if he turns out good.
Mc Love Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 When are the club gong to do an unveiling to the press?? Or are we such a small club, that we dont do this?
rebelmswar Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 When are the club gong to do an unveiling to the press?? Or are we such a small club, that we dont do this? I think they will wait until he no longer looks like a Join the Dots puzzle.
den Posted August 4, 2008 Author Posted August 4, 2008 Ince reveals that Rovers were concerned the deal was going to be hijacked.
T4E Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Ince reveals that Rovers were concerned the deal was going to be hijacked. Can't get that link to load, but from the address it looks like the point is Ince only wants to sign two more players? That is a surprise. Which positions does he say he's targeting?
joey_big_nose Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Glad to see he is now onboard. I think this will mean we are defiantely going to go down the 4231 route this season which is good. For it to work we are going to need some pace out wide though so the right winger we bring in is imperative. Not sure Gamsty is ideal either but we shall see. I heard someone mention that if we want to exercise our option to sign the pineapple one we need to do so by December. If so I guess we have to set aside 3.5m in this year's budget in case we want him permanently. Can anyone confirm/deny this?
3rdpillar Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 I was 19 yrs old when i got chicken pox.Nasty bugger that was! I got chicken pox at 30, lets say i went totally MAD. Serious 5h1t
John Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 The expert Tim Vickery's view Chilean international Carlos Villanueva joins Blackburn from Audax Italiano, a relatively small Santiago club.

Which positions does he say he's targeting? Yeah, I don't particularly like the tone of that article either, which seems to imply that Robinson and Villenueva have already strengthened the squad, i.e. they're additions , when in reality they're only replacements for players who have left. So to talk about "further" strengthening is a bit wide of the mark. Hope it's just the slant the LT have placed on it, rather than Ince or the Board sitting back and being complacent. Edit: The main thrust of the article in the hard copy of the paper was that Derbyshire was going to have a big part to play this season - which I think is extremely good news.
Eddie Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Villanueva is an addition, not a replacement. He won't be playing right midfield. We will need to replace the right midfielder, bring in a right back and obviously we are looking at least one more central midfielder (Annan, Sablé or whoever), so I think we can expect to see at least 3 new players.

T4E Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 So, now that we've got Simpson, does that mean we've only got one more coming in? And if so, I assume that we'll be selecting that one from one of the many trialists we have in. And if thats the case, where is all the bloody money going?!?!
JAL Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 This works. Interesting reading the comments page when you scroll down to a jinkyjase from preston, who talks about the players being embarrassed at the training quoting it as a step back to the eighties. This cant continue John Williams is going to have to step in and fire one or maybe two of the coaches and bring in someone whos top top quality that can stimulate International football players.
joey_big_nose Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 So, now that we've got Simpson, does that mean we've only got one more coming in? And if so, I assume that we'll be selecting that one from one of the many trialists we have in. And if thats the case, where is all the bloody money going?!?! I am pretty certain we will sign two more players by the end of August: One central midfielder, One right winger. On top of that I would be pretty sure we will see either another central midfielder or a striker. Plus, interestingly, we have a central defender on loan currently. No need to panic.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Plus, interestingly, we have a central defender on loan currently. Who is the Central Defender we have on loan?
joey_big_nose Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 The expert Tim Vickery's view Chilean international Carlos Villanueva joins Blackburn from Audax Italiano, a relatively small Santiago club. Interesting and perhaps contextualises everybody's enthusiasm a bit. We are going to mayb need to use him as a passer rather tahn an out and out striker, as someone who can float to find his own space, and have others running for him to make space for him. Seeing how him and Cruz work is going to be fascinating. I suspect santa is going to have to run the line a bit more and be bit more of a bully. If he drops off like he did for much of last year him and Villanueva could keep on running into each other.
