Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 We had a look for him when the team were warming up but he wasn't there. So in the stands I guess.

Eddie Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 btw how is it pronounced is it: Villa-new-aver? Villa-na-way-va
daren Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 more like a mixture - Villa - new - wave - a Spanish version of newton. (New Town)
Eddie Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 Not that it is really important, but that sound doesn't turn into "new" in spanish; the n is like in "number" but rolls into the wa sound.
grizfoot Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 I'm not sure I like all the current hype amongst this board about Villanueva. If he doens't score a 30 yard screamer within his first three games people will be seeing he's rubbish. Obivvously he musn't have been fully fit or I'm sure he'd have been on the bench against Hull. Hopefully he'll get a run out in the Carling Cup and we can see what he can actually do in the flesh as oppossed to a few youtube clips.

Eddie Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 villa (which in English, or from a lot of spanish speakers people say like villa in English, or you could go for the full out vee-ya)-n*way-v*a
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 Vee-ya-n-way-va. I'll stick to Villan-ooh-ever.
donis1410 Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 Vee-ya-n-way-va. I'll stick to Villan-ooh-ever. Just played with him on Pro Evo and it was pronounce: Vill-a-new-ey-va plus I also scored an awesome screamer with him as well, against spuds, but robbo were in goal for dem as it was me on master league when I had signed him, oh well
daren Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Not that it is really important, but that sound doesn't turn into "new" in spanish; the n is like in "number" but rolls into the wa sound. Only if you're pronouncing "new" correctly and crisply! It's a close enough approximation to be fair. It's more like "nu" pronounced like the greek character "mu".
den Posted August 25, 2008 Author Posted August 25, 2008 I'm going to stick my neck out here, - but I don't think that he will be able to hold down a central midfield position. I just don't think he'll be up to it, - as skilful as he does look on youtube. We will have to play 4-5-1 to accomodate him in the team, which isn't ideal. So I don't think he'll be as useful as some would make out. Take note, then blast me when I'm wrong
67splitscreen Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Here he comes, all be standing, enter the King. Villanueva set to face Mariners :brfcsmilie:
donis1410 Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Here he comes, all be standing, enter the King. Villanueva set to face Mariners :brfcsmilie: Officially confirmed now......... http://www.rovers.premiumtv.co.uk/page/New...1375240,00.html Is it me or does that shirt look a wee bit large on the lad? You can also see the millions of chickenpox scars on the king, bless him!!
T4E Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Does that suggest he'll be playing up front? RSC and Carlos in a little and large partnership? Sounds exciting....
RibbleValleyRover Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Sounds like he will play up front, I assume a roaming free role trying to run off Roque or Roberts.
rover6 Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 How does a Benni Mac, Villaneuva partnership strike you? I'm pretty certain that McSulk will start.
BRFC4EVA Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Shouldnt if be pronouced with a 'b' at the end, as in Spanish the v sound is replaced with b? So kinda billa-neue-ba (although when you say it kinda sounds like a v anyways)
joey_big_nose Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 How does a Benni Mac, Villaneuva partnership strike you? I'm pretty certain that McSulk will start. Not that happily struck to be honest. McCarthy does enough of his own roaming so if we end up with bothe of them playing we could well actually spend most of the game without anybody up front. Personally I would rest Cruz (he looked shattered on Saturday) but play Villaneuva, Roberts and McCarthy all together.
T4E Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Could he step into Matt Jansen's shoes? Interesting point - there are a lot of similarities
James No. 7 Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 http://www.rocketlanguages.com/spanish/spa...onunciation.php is an interesting page. "The ll sound is often pronounced like a y, as in yo-yo. Please note that this sound is difficult to pin down, as it is prounced in a variety of ways around Latin America." "V = beh." "Notice that the letters ‘b’ and ‘v’ sound exactly alike. That’s because there is no difference between the two sounds in Spanish: ‘v’ is pronounced just like ‘b.’"
tonyoz Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Interesting point - there are a lot of similarities Yes, I thought so too. I was always a big fan of Matt - I was living in Carlisle when he came to fame. We have missed that unpredictability and flair.
Tim Southampton Rover Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 What are the similarities? Personally I've never seen Jansen do tricks on youtube and i've never see Villanueva play.
T4E Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Both small, slight figures, skillful, left footed, play just off the striker, both have heads. Is that enough?
