LeChuck Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 ------------------Freidal You keep doing that! And still spelling his name wrong after all these years.

DingleBaiter Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 Isn't it all just a teensy bit laughable when folk jump to praise/criticise too early? I can understand fans doing it, they're often biased/hypocritical/daft/partisan etc. But for Craig Brown to wax lyrical about 'head of fragmentation grenade' before the game on Five Live yesterday smacks of status anxiety. He was saying Carlos was brilliant (we know he is) and a great player, yet he could only have watched the one game, surely? I doubt the old goat can even work a phone, let alone Youtube, so he's basing his opinion - and expounding it to the wider world - on one occasion. Maybe that explains why he loved Christain Dailly so much? A lot of the Spurs-biased media did the same with Kabboul last season - they saw one game in pre-season and got all warm & fuzzy about how we was the future for Spurs. Season later he's offloaded as a makeweight for buttons to buy Bentley with. We should bear in mind Brett Emerton's first proper league game for us, and how it took him a few seasons to live up to that. Personally, I'm sure Ince and Carlos will prove themselves over the fullness of time, and I'm soooooooooo excited about Carlos, but we do need to temper our expectations as everyone says.
T4E Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 We should bear in mind Brett Emerton's first proper league game for us, and how it took him a few seasons to live up to that. You're not wrong - we're still waiting! If he plays like that just one more time we can all die happy.
Laurence Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 I don't think it was the sort of game that we could aford to lose width by putting on another striker. However with Treacy coming through and hopefully a new quicj signing on the right this could be what Ince is aiming for. -----------------Cruz Treacy---Carlos-----Dunn---[NEW GUY] ------------------Grella Warnock---Nelsen---Samba---Simpson ------------------Freidal (Robinson!!) If Treacy can cut it then we could play Pedersen on the right (he's actually right footed after all).
Paulo Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 Laurence i have to stand by the fact that the Gamst ''right foot'' thing is the biggest lie in English football.
Laurence Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 Laurence i have to stand by the fact that the Gamst ''right foot'' thing is the biggest lie in English football. Oh I'm sure there are bigger ones than that. I'm also sure that I saw an interview where he actually told the story of him training his left foot etc....

Paulo Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 I've heard him discuss it, i just dont believe him! If he didn't train that left foot of his, he would be a pop star because that right peg is a wild child
bellamy11 Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 Oh I'm sure there are bigger ones than that. I'm also sure that I saw an interview where he actually told the story of him training his left foot etc.... The one thing I don't get about the whole situation is why doesn't he take set pieces and so on with his "natural" right foot? Having primarily used it until his mid-teens it must be strong enough. If we want to take in-swinging corners then surely he can take them with his right on one side and left on the other? I believe the story about him starting to focus on his left to make him more two-footed and able to fill a difficult position, but why does he never use his best foot for set pieces when he isn't under pressure from defenders?
S15 Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 So can anyone clear up which foot is he meant to be good with?
sparky12 Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 So can anyone clear up which foot is he meant to be good with? rite he's naturally right footed but he taught him self to use his left. he is still strong with his right but is alot stronger and has more confidence with his left
S15 Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Do they not teach you about irony in schools anymore?

joey_big_nose Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 You keep doing that! And still spelling his name wrong after all these years. Yep. Force of habit. Do wish the big man was still here, willing to give Robinson time although he has shown his recent form in having two good games and one bad one. It's strange because Robinson was such a good keeper three years ago. I guess we need to let him settle and get to know the back four. If it does not work out this Bunn guy is supposed to be good as well. Good hedging by Ince.
modes98 Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 He is playing for the reserves tonight at 7.
only2garners Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Do they not teach you about irony in schools anymore? Not sure they even teach ironing, let alone irony
Clitherover Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Do they not teach you about irony in schools anymore? Yeah, it's like bronzy and goldy, only made of iron instead.
donis1410 Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 so does anybody know how he played against the scum last night?
Bobby G Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Look forward to a report on the game. Cant find it anywhere.
Mark Atkins' Bald Patch Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Look forward to a report on the game. Cant find it anywhere. There's a couple in here ... http://www.brfcs.co.uk/mb/index.php?showtopic=19821
67splitscreen Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Chile Vs Brazil Monday coming, anyone know if Carlos has traveled. Must watch LIVE if he has.
modes98 Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Team The biggest surprise from Bielsa's selection was the exclusion of Blackburn Rovers striker Carlos Villanueva, who was originally one of his most consistent attacking players.
LeChuck Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 They're a bit spoilt for choice in Carlos' position, Luis Jimenez isn't even in that squad either. I think we really need to calm our expectations of Villanueva, we're billing him as the superstar of Chile but in reality he can't make the national team on a regular basis. Mark Gonzalez is ahead of him and he hardly set the Premiership alight at Liverpool.
67splitscreen Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Not so much expectations, as a opportunity to see him against World class opposition.
philipl Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 hey the guy has been pretty heavy duty unwell. I don't read anything into his ommissions... yet.
