AggyBlue Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Thought id be the first to spread the gfood news!! \ although i'd say the journo put a spin on it! i hope!! Sounds like he's almost ready to throw the towel in.
JAL Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Thought id be the first to spread the gfood news!! \ although i'd say the journo put a spin on it! i hope!! When your paying close to £5m for someone clearly Rovers have to know if hes upto it, they are testing him mentally on and off the training ground on wether hes has what is takes. Reading Carlos seems like the doubts are there from him can he adjust time will tell.
Roost Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 'It was hard for me to get used to driving in England. The first week was like giving birth to a baby - I was not used to being in a car with the steering wheel on the right. Eh?
DanLad Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 'It was hard for me to get used to driving in England. The first week was like giving birth to a baby - I was not used to being in a car with the steering wheel on the right. Eh? A man giving birth to a baby would be the wrong way around, right. Just as, to him, the steering wheel is on the wrong side. You know, a metaphor?
brfcjon Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Spending 5 mill on a player and not making sure everything he needs to fit in is really stupid. Not many modern companies would hire someone from which they expect a lot and then just leave him be. Sometimes football clubs are run as if it was still 1950 og 1960. Since players are the most important ressource why not make the most of it... If you want someone to perform you need to make sure they feel at home and confident. I wouldnt be suprised if someone on this boards would say the players earn a lot of money and should just pull themselves together. Fact of the matter is though that a lot of time and money are put in to signing the guy and then the club apprantley doesnt do enough to integrate the chap (or others as well I expect). I dont think rovers are any worse than other clubs but it just seems that not enough effort is put into the psychological part of management in the football world.
RibbleValleyRover Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 I hope its a case of the press trying to stir up some ****, the Daily Mail aren't exactly our biggest fans. Wasn't it the Daily Mail who spread the crap about Ince's training methods and the players hating the new manager?
gumboots Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 I hope its a case of the press trying to stir up some ****, the Daily Mail aren't exactly our biggest fans. Wasn't it the Daily Mail who spread the crap about Ince's training methods and the players hating the new manager? He didn't look discontented on the big screen on saturday. If he complains about team mates kicking him in training think what he'd be like against some of those who were really out to get him.
LeChuck Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Well, it says the interview is from the 'Las Ultimas Noticias' newspaper in Chile. If anyone can find that article we could see how close the Daily Mail version is to the original. I expect some things have been poorly translated deliberately to make the story more interesting. Edit: I've found their website, but it's the worst I've ever come across for a newspaper!
Rover-the-Top Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Seems like Carlos has a sense of humour to me, with jokes about driving on the wrong side of the road and Ince's knowledge of Chilean football starting and ending with Ivan Zamorano... the Mail, of course, try their best to make you believe he's got a genuine grievance about being forced to drink Paraguayan tea with Roque and Julio...
T4E Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 That's all very concerning (and also quite amusing). Ince only ever talks to him about Ivan Zamorano? Surely thats not true?
Hughesy Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Its just paper nonsense. They have used parts of his interview from Rovers and just added bits.
novella Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 i found the article on the original chile paper website but the link doesnt work and gives a page error.
BiggusLaddus Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Seems like Carlos has a sense of humour to me, with jokes about driving on the wrong side of the road and Ince's knowledge of Chilean football starting and ending with Ivan Zamorano... the Mail, of course, try their best to make you believe he's got a genuine grievance about being forced to drink Paraguayan tea with Roque and Julio... Thats exactly how I read it. It seemed like a positive and humourous interview, interspersed with lots of negative journo drivel.
92er Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 There was an interesting article a few months ago in the Financial Times in which a journalist was portraying how many Football Cubs go to the effort of signing foreign players and then do nothing about helping them to settle in the country. On that basis, and hearing yonks ago about a French player arriving at the club and their getting some member of staff who had very limited French to interpret doesn't make me too hopeful. But the main reason for my coming on this topic is to speculate that we won't sign him in Jan. If he is going to be Ince's main signing at £5m, presumably he's going to have to be pretty darn sure of him being able to perform for us at a high standard.
A cup of beans Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Seems like Carlos has a sense of humour to me, with jokes about driving on the wrong side of the road and Ince's knowledge of Chilean football starting and ending with Ivan Zamorano... the Mail, of course, try their best to make you believe he's got a genuine grievance about being forced to drink Paraguayan tea with Roque and Julio... my feelings exactly. - a light-hearted interview given to a chilean newspaper. it's only the daily mail embarking on their rovers witch-hunt again. it's not even their own interview. they are experts at taking quotes out of context (as it often shows in the news and comment sections of the paper). we shouldnt let those yogurt-knitters get to us! in any case, i find the mail's sports reporting really lifeless and boring. id rather read the daily t*ts (star), than the mail. And that's saying something.
RoverRich Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Well looking at that picture and reading the article, maybe he should get some bigger shin pads
herbergeehh Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 ChileanDude, can you find this in the paper mentioned?
'arrod rover Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 i seem to remember the papers saying Tugay was unsettled in blackburn back when we first got him - they just love stirring it up!
novella Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 "I am very happy because I am going to be playing competitive football," said Villanueva. "I'm very keen to get things right and I hope to play as much as possible as I intend on staying in England for a long time. "I know that I will have to work hard, and I am not travelling thinking that I will immediately hold a position but I hope I can win a place." anyone remember these comments.... not a chance he is fed up already.
Tim Southampton Rover Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Anyone speak Spanish here? Probably a good chance to make some footballing friends! Call King Carlos over for a chat in Spanish, invite him over for some Pro Evo or some English tea, become mates with Villanueva, he'll invite Roque and Bro around for some frozen pasta and then you can get them on the BRFCS boards, they'll give you free tickets for games and probably get to meet Paul Ince and talk about Zamorano and hey presto, you'll be best friends with the squad. I can't see it going wrong.
BRFC1995 Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 what an absolute non-story............makes out that a very well payed premier league footballer stays at home eating pasta bored every night, fairly certain mr dunn will point him in the direction of some birds from hollyoaks to give him something else to do at night shortly. is'nt this the same story every newspaper trots out about jonny foreigner before he starts going through the hollyoaks cast.
philipl Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 That is a damning disgrace of the Ince regime. This was something the Hughes set-up got right with foreign players signing for Rovers. 92er, you are absolutely right that for an industry that invests so many millions on individuals, football is down in the Ricky Gervais league of managing them and getting the best out of them.
