[Archived] Blackburn Sign Chilean Superstar Carlos Villanueva

Hi guys, sorry for the delay...

Phew...that's it.

Thanks, Chileandude! I think that clears that up!

By the way, your English is excellent! Come over here and be Carlos' translator! Bring some of that excellent Chilean wine over too (for me, not for Villaneuva ;-)

I'm a fan of Carlos from what I've seen of him. I'd like to see him playing more often. If Ince thinks he can only play 60 minutes then play him for 60 minutes and then take him off. Then play him for 65 minutes the next game and so on. How can you get up to match speed with no matches?!?

The agent seems pretty annoyed about everything...I wonder what Ince will make of this...no doubt he will stumble upon the Daily Mail article.

Yeah I thought that, he doesn't sound pleased at all. Ince knows what drivel papers write especially the daily mail as he found out when they made up all that rubbish about the players hating him. Glad everything is fine and dandy with Carlos. If he can settle even more and adapt to english football over the next 2 months I believe we will sign him and he will be a class act. What have we learnt from this article? Carlos is happy enough with the way things are going and can laugh about it, and also, what we pretty much already knew.................................the daily mail is ####!!!

Yes thanks Chileandude. I happily withdraw what I said and just marvel at how warped the interview with the Chileans became in the hands of the Daily Mail.

Agent's clarification on Sky.

Official site - Carlos anger over reports - Chilean hits back

That is a damning disgrace of the Ince regime.

That is the perfect illustration of what is happening on this MB. A large group of posters are instantly seizing any snippet, any hint of bad news, any murmour of discontent, and using the lot as sticks with which to beat Ince around the head.

It's been like that all summer long. I really don't understand it.

I certainly agree that there are 2 very divided camps about PI and I think this is reflected amongst many other supporters of the club who don't come on here.

! group is quite clearly in favour of his appointment, think he is womderful and think that because he is manager of our beloved club, he should be supported.

The second group is not necessarily against him. Some are, I am sure and would like him to be sacked. Now. But I believe that is a very small section of this group. A larger section of the group are waiting to be convinced. They have many doubts about his signings, his tactical nouse, his ability to motivate players, his actual knowledge of the abilities etc of our players and his knowledge of the history of our club. There are probably a lot of areas I haven't covered.

And part of the problem for this section is that as soon as Ince gets something right ( and as ParsonBlue quite correctly pointed out he got the tactics spot on at Newcastle) he goes and blows it the next time.

Eh? There isn't a single poster on here who would belong to the first group as you define it. No-one comes on saying he is wonderful no matter what.

I think there is a group who believe, on principle, that someone making such a step up should be given time to settle in, accepting that mistakes will be made, but then judging him on performances and results. As we stand mid-table at the moment - one of our better starts to a campaign - that group, of which I am a member, sees the glass as half full.

Then there is the second group as you describe, many doubts and a bit glass half empty, which is fair enough.

Then there is a very vocal (when we lose) 3rd group who will never come round to him, for a variety of reasons.

Anyway, this is the impression I have formed from the messageboard, the Telewag and speaking to my friends and family still in the area. But then growing up in Tockholes does leave one with a positive outlook on life :D

Nor do I and it really is starting to p'ss me off. I've never seen such a constant stream of drivel and twisted logic than on here recently. Someone is bound to say it's because of Ince... I honestly wish people would come out and say just why they have the atitude they have towards Ince and the management and be completely honest. It's not just on here though, it's in the press as well.

The news of the 'lost in translation' journalism has arrived in Chile. I found this article in 'La Tercera' that mentions how some English newspapers totally misinterpreted Villanueva's interview with 'Las Ultimas Noticias'.

http://latercera.cl/contenido/82_59883_9.shtml

I'll translate a bit...

Villanueva faces his first controversy at Blackburn Rovers

The British media misinterpreted declarations he made a couple of days ago, for which he had to give explanations to the club's management.

Carlos Villanueva is of a tranquil and respectful personality. One could say he is an example for the rest of his colleagues. For this reason it's strange to find him involved in controversy such as the one he's had in the last few days and has had to give explanations for to the club's management.

...the article goes on to explaining the misquoted 'Las Ultimas Noticias' article and then the reply from Carlos at the Blackburn Rovers website.

EIT will be pleased to read that according to the most recent article the club helped him find his flat and have organised English lessons for him.

I never thought that they wouldnt. It's Mr Angry in Malta who needed reassuring that the Mark Hughes Relocation and Shopping Service was still fully functional

They've dumped him in Manchester. It's not good enough. What's wrong with Tockholes?

Yesterday, Sky publish this tripe: "Ince annoys Villanueva."

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11676_4256226,00.html

Today, they have the nerve to publish: "Rovers Star Denies Comments." It contains this wonderful statement............

"However, he has been quoted in the English media, after conducting an interview in his native Chile, as saying that he was unhappy at Ewood Park."

I find it embarrassing that a young lad, new to the club and country should have to go to Ince and explain that his comments have been mangled by the press.

On a more pleasant note......thank you Chileandude for the translations and clarifications.........that was excellent work and much appreciated.

New interview from Carlos to La Tercera...

----

The Chilean from Blackburn Rovers commented the triumph over Argentina, the projections of his friend Fabián Orellana and his present in the Premier League.

Carlos Villanueva sounds happy. Maybe it's because little by little he is winning a space in Blackburn Rovers or because he is now in company of his mother and girlfriend. The truth is that the silence he had imposed on himself was over so that he could speak with La Tercera.com about his adaptation to the competitive English football and the historic triumph of the national team over Argentina.

The last time that the attacking midfielder conceded an interview to a national paper he had problems in England, although as he himself explained, it was only a misunderstanding. "It was a translation error. The word 'bothering', which there in Chile they used as 'taking the mic' here they threw it as if I was angry with Paul Ince. I talked with him and he told me he had no problems, that I should relax because he went through the same when he played in Italy, that the English press translated badly'.

And that good relation with the coach is evident, since he is slowly winning a place in the Edwood Park squad. My adaptation is going very well. It has all been progressive and I am very happy with what I am living here. Little by little I'm winning a space. I have had the chance of playing a couple of matches as a starter, one in between with Manchester which I didn't take part, but I'm calm because I think I am doing the right things and I have to to keep this up to win a space.

In fact, his contribution in the beginning of the season to the Premier League has been valued so much by the fans, that they already note him as one of their preferred players, so has the directive of Blackburn Rovers, who have already exteriorized their desire to buy the pass of the Chilean. "I'll be happy if that gets to happen. I am very happy here, the people and generally everyone in the club have been very gentile. The facilities and the atmosphere in the matches is from another world, so I would very much like to stay here, I'd be very happy".

ORELLANA AND THE NATIONAL TEAM

Maybe the only thing that Villanueva is missing to complete this sound panorama would have been participating with the national team in the historic triumph over Argentina. In spite of this, he woke up early to watch the match on TV. "I saw it with my mom and girlfriend, and well, we were left very happy because it was a great triumph."

"I wanted to be there obviously, but since it wasn't to be I passed on to become one more supporter. It left me very happy, I enjoyed the triumph very much, I was very happy for Chile and for the group of players as well, and obviously one always dreams with being in the national team, but I am calm. I hope one day I may return to the national team", he completed.

The ex Audax Italiano had special words for Fabián Orellana, author of the winning goal against the transandinos. "It makes me very happy, happy that he was able to play and even more if he scored the winning goal. For any player it's something very emotional, very happy and a very big step as well. Because we are good friends it makes me happy and I hope he continues like this because he has all the conditions. I hope everything works out for him because he's a quality player".

"Is he ready to play abroad? I think he has the conditions to move abroad. It was already proven in this match and in the Toulon tournament where he was also good. He has demonstrated that he can perform at international level, so I believe he is qualified and I hope he does very well. I think he has demonstrated it in every ambit, in the national tournament as well as abroad", he noted.

The next challenge for 'La Roja' will be the next 19th of November against Spain at Villarreal, encounter Villanueva is aiming at, although without putting pressure on himself. "Anyone would like to be there, but in reality I have to worry about mi team, try to add more minutes in Blackburn and have a good performance, and then wait for a new chance".

----

There! So it looks like Carlos is very happy and looks forward to improving his performance in Blackburn so that he might get a call for that interesting match against the Euro champs.
