Wasn't the figure was 4 million Euros?

That was a figure Ince has mentioned for Grella in fact.

Perhaps a good comparison would be if you had 3, 4, or 5m to spend - would you spend it on Grella or Carlos?

Because I can't say Grella has pulled up any trees so far in light of his injury record.

If that is the case I stand corrected!

Anybody considered the fact he's playing out of position? He played well, I thought. Certainly an ordinary keeper wouldn't have saved his shot.

He was poor on the wing and until he was 'allowed' to play support to the striker when he comes into his own much more. His shot would have been stoped by most keepers imo, it was just to the right of Cech and at about a perfect height for a keeper..... he needed to have kept it low. Big chance, big miss.

Agreed, I was very disappointed he didn't bury it. Having said that, I was equally ticked that MGP didn't just smack it in rather than palying what was a not very good pass to the Chilean

I was impressed with him today, considering he was out of position.

Are you having a laugh or a Burnley fan in disguise, he brought nothing to todays game hes too small, too slow, too weak, the premier league is the wrong league for Carlos Villeneauva championship maybe.

Yeh - and that Deco is c*** as well - too small, too slow for this division :P

Carlos shows more flair and inventiveness than most EPL players. We need to find a way to harness his talents.

I thought he was hit and miss today - but far better in the 2nd half when he had a more positive influence on the game. I think you must have watched a different game - or maybe you have to take your socks off to eat bananas ;)

BTW - if he had pace, he would be playing for a far bigger club than Rovers.

I'm surprised at all the negative comments. IMO he has been very good for us, had he bagged a couple of goals everyone would be begging for him to sign. He hasn't found his range yet but he is getting closer, playing him is the only way he will improve, as with Olsson.

A bargain buy as he will come good and be a vital player for us by the end of the season.

Disagree modes as time is running out - fast, also with Olsson he could do with being taken out of the firing line so as not to damage his confidence.

At this moment in time the team isnt strong enough to carry him we need better players who are ready and capable, just dont think Ince understands the quality that is needed.

I think Ince should bite the bullet and lookt to play 4411 and stick with it. We look better when we do it, and Carlos gets more involved which is important. Plus we look more solid. defensively and it lets our fullbacks who are avery attack minded bomb on.

We need to settle the formation and the team.

I thought Carlos looked good in the second half but to be fair Chelsea did not look to shakle him. I think he struggles with man marking as he lacks the pace and power to deal with hs man.

new club..new country-just getting used to the pace of the league-against a top team- he didnt look out of place at all..yeh he will lose the ball on occasions but he has something special about him-he is well worth signing in my opinion..

i thought he did well today-he isnt a winger but the way he tracked back and helped simpson out i thought was good..you can clearly see he has something about him-and a few of his passes opened chelsea up..he is better behind the striker where he can make things happen..

You really are looking for a argument aren't you...

People dont agree with you, so you say exactly what you know is going to get an angry response. Then you can turn around and start accusing people of being silly...

In every one of Carlos's games, he has got better and better and better. He is getting used to the game. Even though he has been played way out of position for the vast majority of his games.

I said this in a topic the other day, but will repeat myself if you haven't read it.

If we allow Carlos to go, and another team in the league came in and gave him the chance, in the correct position, we could be made to look very silly indeed.

Anybody with a footballing brain and heart can see the lad has talent. You can also quite obviously see, it will take time for him to come to speed and adjust to the league. Unhelpfull inaccurate opinions such as yours should be reserved for the pub on a late sunday night in Burnley! ;) (oh no am i being silly)

Needs Roque fit and firing on all cylinders for that to happen!

To sign somebody for a sizeable/majority/all of a manager's potential transfer kitty just to reduce the risk of looking silly smells of an even bigger risk of looking even sillier if it does not come off.

At the moment Carlos is still looking a hefty gamble to sign permanently at present. If it does come off then Ince would reap the rewards but is it a bet Rovers can afford at present?

At £1.5 or £2 million then I think Carlos would be worth a punt. However, at £5 million he seems rather expensive. My main concern about him is that he can only really play in one position - floating behind the main striker. At the moment he is a bit of a luxury that I'm not sure we can afford. I think I would prefer the money to be spent in January on bringing in a creative midfield player and a proven striker. If we are going to survive what looks like being the tightest relegation battle since the Premiership began, we are going to need goals. At the moment I'm not sure Carlos is sufficiently at home in the English game to provide them.

To be fair, and I dislike Ince as much as the next person, I thought Carlos looked like he could do a job. Not the fastest, but running in porridge, who was? I totally forgot Grella was playing, and there were some distinctly fourth division touches about Andrews. Robinson not bad, though. Better than I thought.

Whilst you might have thought Carlos wouldn't fancy the appaling conditions yesterday, I thought he adapted as well as any of our players.

Conversely a powerhouse like Roberts who you thought might revel in the tricky conditions seemed quite subdued I thought.

Carlos definitely has something about him, but he probably needs to do a bit more, not least score a couple of Premiership goals to earn a permanent deal.

I hope he does.

I think if the club could then they should try to keep Carlos on loan until the summer, giving him abit longer to hit hot form and then decide on him. I suppose it depends really on how much money we have in total for our Budget as we really need a right winger.

Again guys...I really don't think he's £5M...I say £4M AT MOST! If he goes at £5M he will become the highest player sold from the Chilean league. The Audax Italiano president is a cunning business man, he has managed to buy players incredibly cheap, get the performance from them and sell them for the best prices possible. Paraguayan international Salvador Cabañas (to Mexico), Franco Di Santo(to Chelsea), Nicolas Corvetto (to Udinese) and now Carlos Villanueva (to Blackburn Rovers?)

As much as I like to support my fellow countrymen I will put myself in the place of a Blackburn fan, and as someone else said, whilst Carlos really has the talent and probably more touch than any other Blackburn player, he is still a luxury for a team like Blackburn. He can only feel at home in the middle and when he plays at the sides he is more of a £2M player.

I think Audax Italiano thinks they can squeeze Blackburn the same way they did Chelsea...but both teams are not comparable budget wise. Chelsea have money to through away so it is natural they could afford the ridiculous £4M they put on Di Santo, who was not even a regular at Audax Italiano.

I think Blackburn should counter offer. 4M for Villanueva...or maybe 3M and let Audax keep a small percentage of the player.

He'd be a fantastic tactical option at £2m, he's very useful just off the front man. Sadly that's really the only position he's effective in at this level which for a team like Rovers, who need flexibility in their players, is a huge negative. I agree with many posters on here, he doesn't have any pace whatsoever and he is on the short side, however, he certainly has that bit of genius that we lack in the team.

I'm undecided as to whether we should take the plunge on Carlos - though obviously the more playing time he gets the better chance of an evaluation.
