Hughesy Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Could be a very handy player if played in the correct position - it will be interesting to see what the new manager makes of him and the rest of our squad players like Treacy, Roberts, Mokoena, Vogel etc...

EwoodGlory Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 I hope we don't lose this one, he has the talent, but nor really given the chance. He's on loan until the end of the season, we should keep him until at least then.
neekoy Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Absolutely crazy to let him go, barring Tugay he is probably the most talented player in the squad. He certainly hasn't been given enough of an opportunity, I think playing him in a free role with some defensive cover in midfeild would see him be a superstar.
AussieinUk Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Based on the current situation (club finance and league position) and considering other posters input on Carlos, I would let his loan contract run through to the end of the season, WITHOUT putting a bid in the January window. The valuation of £4-5m would be put to better use, in filling the current gaps in our first XI. Admittedly, Carlos does have talent, but we cannot afford the luxury of buying a player while other positional issues need to be addressed. Added to the comment, would it not be wise to save such money, before the next manager takes the role on. What if the next manager (whoever that may be) feels that Carlos is not a current first XI player at all? It’s better to keep the powder dry and leave this money in the transfer kitty until the next manager takes control... IMV, Audax can make all the noise they want, but I don’t think there will be other clubs looking at Carlos anytime soon. As I said, Carlos has talent, but is too lightweight at the moment..

Agreed, the guy is talented but he's too slow and lightweight for the prem.
Bobby G Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 So does that mean if he is sold in January he leaves us in January or June?
AussieinUk Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 So does that mean if he is sold in January he leaves us in January or June? He cant be sold in January Bobby, as he is on loan till the end of the season (June). If we want to keep him indefinitely, we need to sign him in January
Hughesy Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 June - we have him on a season loan with an option to buy at a fixed price in Jan. If we dont then he simply becomes available to others and also the price could increase.
Bobby G Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Price definitely wont increase unless he performs. If anything price will decrease if we re-negotiate.
Cocker Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 A player that can beat people and finish a chance - why would we want him again I am gutted that the lad hasn't been given more of a chance. When we start playing defenders and strikers in midfield and we have this guy chomping at the bit to get on it just seems like an even bigger waste. Can anyone else see him going somewhere else and becoming a star - I can.

Iceman Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 You either gonna have to play him on the Wings, or as a striker if Dunny and Grella ella ella eh eh eh ella is fit… Dunny should be a 1st choice selection, Grella will be the defensive mid. That still leaves Villanueva out in the cold, unless he plays as a striker, or as a left winger or something. Still believe the lad has loads of talent, but how people can judge him, with him hardly playing is beyond me. I hope Vogel will also be given more of a start, the same goes for Zurab…
Majiball Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 OK look at villa in a different way. If he's not getting good coaching he will not progress, I am more certain than ever that the training at Rovers has been seriously sub-standard. Better coaching may get more out of him, for me he's a keeper till the end of the year we did pay 1M for it, and I don't mean that in the sense Ince would. However I think we should consider more transfers of this type. Building a reputation for being a place south american footballers can develop in the premiership would not be a bad thing.

Ince has gone, there's not much chance of playing Carlos as a keeper!
American Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 I'd really hate to see him go. Spent a lot of money getting his name on my shirt this season!
Billy Castell Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Fat Sam might make him our Jay-Jay Ococha
T4E Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I'm very interested to see what Sam makes of the lad. He could well turn him in to a star. I'm far more confident in him being decent for us now than I was before.
chileandude Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Hmm...poor Villanueva...first his transfer to Real Sociedad went to hell when the club went bust...then his transfer to the Premiership turns into a nightmare as his club spirals into the depths. ...third time lucky? I hope so...he's a good lad and deserves better...I hope what little experience he might have obtained in the Blackburn reserves squad serves him well to mature as a player and as a person. I'd like him to get one last chance in the Premiership under a coach that knows what he's doing though...
Amo Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Sam will either think he's lightweight and move him on, OR make the most of his attacking flair. Hopefully the latter.
beerwins Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I think this guy has the makings of a star, but he needs a free role, license to roam so to speak, its a bit of a luxury we cant afford atm, i cant see sam being able to justify spending so much on him when were in the brown stuff, if we were in mid table he could have a bit of a tinker with this fella. If we could extend his loan which doesnt seem probable i could see him being a real good signing, apart from good skill he has very good vision, we just need a bit of time to tweak him, i think ince signed him as a bit of a mouthwatering gesture , he never seemed to get the best out of him (or anyone really)
bazza Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I like Charlie Newton. He reminds me of yesteryear players; small in stature, low centre of gravity, clever ball control and a good shot on him. I could be talking about Bryan Douglas! Or Juninho, Maradona, Zola.(similar build;not necessarily skill) I'm sure BFS will note his class but 5 million is way too much to pay for him.

Douglas had pace and being two- footed he could go either way.
chileandude Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 I'm sure BFS will note his class but 5 million is way too much to pay for him. I'm sure he's not worth 5 million...I think it's more like 3 million...Blackburn has already paid about 1 million for the loan + wages...

den Posted December 19, 2008 Author Posted December 19, 2008 If we had to pay just another 2M I'd go for it I wouldn't want him. Doubt Sam will either.
