nicko Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 A deal has been done between the clubs. So Rovers won't be able to better the offer to the Mexican side - even if they wanted. Now down to the player. He is not 100 per cent keen on going there, but I think he will all the same.

LeChuck Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 Odd decision. It sounded like he wanted to be in the Premiership to test himself in one of the best leagues in the world, I was convinced he'd go to Spain this summer. Instead he's taking the money option and going to an Arab league.
Rovers in America Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 A deal has been done between the clubs. So Rovers won't be able to better the offer to the Mexican side - even if they wanted. Now down to the player. He is not 100 per cent keen on going there, but I think he will all the same. Since when did UAE move to North America?
j166429 Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 Since when did UAE move to North America? I think he means villanueva's club
Tim Southampton Rover Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 I can't believe Nicko has made a mistake. Ban him.
j166429 Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 Who are Chilean. LOL !! True. It's like some weird kind of Chinese whispers between a group of deaf people!!!
Muddboy Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 I think Carlos' team in Chile has realised that nobody in the Prem is daft enough to meet their ridiculous asking price for him so they have 'cashed in' with a UAE team to get as much in the bank as possible. It's a real shame. Carlos has the potential to be an excellent player (not necessarily with Rovers) but what will he learn and how will he develop playing for a sh*t team in UAE? His club side in Chile obviously care more about money than they do about Carlos.
modes98 Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 Now down to the player. He is not 100 per cent keen on going there, but I think he will all the same. If I were Carlos I would get my barge pole out. UAE is not the place for a young player looking to make it in europe.
Amo Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 I can't believe Nicko has made a mistake. Ban him. Do you stop people stealing his pocket money too?
Rick_Blackburn_91 Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 Didn't we have First Option to buy him once his loan ran out?
Backroom Tom Posted May 17, 2009 Backroom Posted May 17, 2009 We had to decide to sign him in January if I recall correctly.
nicko Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 CHILEAN club right enough...100 lines. Anyway, the fee is too big for Audax Italiano to turn down. The player also makes money from the sale and a good wage. I don't think anyone will better this offer. He will end up there.
Rovers in America Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 We had to decide to sign him in January if I recall correctly. Yup, that's correct. We had to exercise the option to buy him in January.
Tim Southampton Rover Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 I think the idea of having Carlos come into the club and producing the youtube tricks probably excites us more than the reality of his time at Ewood Park. He's not been good enough to become a regular first team player who can produce the goods week in week out and become a reliable consistent Premier League player. Let's hope Rovers use the £3 million wisely and buy a player who can physically make an impact on our midifled and help move the club forward. I wish him all the best and hope he fulfills his potential and maybe in the future we'll see him back in the Premier League as a success.
Bobby G Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 Looks like I will be getting a closer look at Carlos then.
Hughesy Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 £3.3m deal agreed - and you say Villanueva gets a nice cut? Offer them £2.5m (all thiers) and give him decent wages and we will win surely.
modes98 Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 I'm a fan of Villaneuva but even I don't think he's worth splashing £3m on at the moment. I think he can play a good role for us but it means changing everything to fit him in and he also gets knocked off the ball very easily. Very good player just not the right time and league for him.
Rover4ever Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Looks like I will be getting a closer look at Carlos then. Shame he didnt come to my 2nd team, Al Wahda......as I could see him every week then. Villueneva is pretty well suited to the league here, he is skillful and would have a feast like Valdivia...... However moving to the UAE league has never progressed careers apart from maybe the Ivorian Sango, who is at Stuttgart I think...
philipl Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Sign of the times. Derbs in Greece and Carlos to UAE. It will steadily get more difficult for lower Prem teams to get and hold outstanding but flawed young talent sadly.
Hughesy Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 According to the press Carlos will pocket 500k from the deal.

True. It is just impossible to see where he will play. If he had two yards of pace, or was a foot taller and 15 pounds heavier it would be a no brainer. But he can get marked out of a game so easily as it is. great turn on him, but that only buys him a second or two.
brfc4ever Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Let's hope Rovers use the £3 million wisely and buy a player who can physically make an impact on our midifled and help move the club forward. Huh ? Anyway, good luck Carlos. I had high hopes, but it was not to be.
brfc4ever Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Mirror "The Chile striker - on loan at Ewood Park - was upset at being ignored by boss Sam Allardyce for much of Wanderers' survival fight and will switch to the Emirates League." Can't be THAT upsetting, considering he was playing for Rovers....

Anyway wasn't it you who said Carlos didn't really have a choice in the matter? Journalistic licence I suppose... Poor little Carlos, set off to some tin-pot league in the desert.
