My first car was a Hillman Hunter. It cost me 40 quid when I was 18. All the welds around the bottom of the front wings had gone, and once you got above 30 mph they started to lift up and out, and flapped around in the wind. The passenger seat wasn't fixed either, and I used to be able to catapult unwary passengers into the rear of the car if I put my foot down fom a standing start. In short, it was a death trap, but you seemed to be able to get away with cars like that back then. I got pulled a couple of times in it and was simply told to get it mended.

It was the first of several cheap but cheerful motors - I also had a Capri, a Mk1 Cavalier, Mk1 Golf, and a Chrysler Thingy. Now I have a boring reliable Zafira, and a '78 VW Camper in my garage undergoing restoration.

Back then, most lads first cars were cheap rustbuckets, but to keep them going you had to learn how to fix them. That's the difference between then and now - today kids pass their test and swan off down to the Saxo garage and buy a brand new one on the drip, and if owt goes wrong they just take it back. Some of the young lads I know now don't know the difference between a clutch and a carb; one guy I know didn't even know he had to put oil in, let alone where it went.

SatNav's - there's a thing too. Some people can't get home without one, let alone go anywhere new without them. What's wrong with a 4.99 road atlas? Pointless gadgets for halfwits.

Started of raging scramblers around fields and tacks in my early teens, mainly 125's and 250cc. There was a Kawasaki 250cc, not sure of the model but it had power bands and well they were good times.

When my feet could touch the pedals and see over a steering wheel of a car, some mates and I would pick up old bangers on the cheap, take them to a field (so many fields in Wales) and nail them round all day. A variety Pug 205gti's, xr2, xr3, rs turbo's, Cavaliers, mini's, golfs, anything nobody wanted.

Got my cbt at 16 and was going to get a road bike and I done my knee in playing football, so that was curtains.

Come out of plaster and turned 17, got my full drivers license and the old man bought me my first car which was an:

escort mk5, 1.6 16v. Front wheel come off while driving

astra GTE. Amazing car, blacked out windows all round were standard. Engine blew up.

xr3 convertible. Was the summer, was cheap and was a good laugh. Some ###### hit her when she was parked.

toyota celica. Replica of the famous castrol one, sold because she got to much attention.

Currently got a bmw, love beama's! It's black, got all the trimmings and nice wheels. My mum thinks it's gangster material lol.

'72 Ford Impala - always thought that if I ran into a brick wall, the wall would be more damaged than the car

'84 Toyota Camry - ran the sucker into the ground after about 200k and working as a driver

'89 Ford Mustang - fun car, but the insurance broke me, so exchanged it for:

'90 Subaru Legacy - Serviceable car, nothing fancy, but did the job and was comfortable enough. Sold it when I moved across the country.

Toyota Celica - Owner before us had treated it like crap, so that was how it treated us.

'82 Volvo 240(?) Diesel - won it in a raffle at work, only needed it for a few months, which was how long it lasted for. Best $5 I've ever spent.

'94 Volvo 850 - great car, probably our favorite. At the time our second car was a:

1988 Oldsmobile. A tank, but a serviceable second car.

Haven't owned a car in a couple of years due to living and working in the city, but while out in Utah rented for months at a time (current year models):

Pontiac G6 - Never thought I'd like an American car so much.

Toyota Camry - Was a dog going up hills - very disappointing after my last Camry.

Chevrolet Malibu - good drive, but Chevy is starting to lose it because they don't think of the small things when engineering, such as how many large drinks you can fit in the front, how the trunk itself fits larger items than you can actually put through the trunk opening, etc.

My first Car:

256J2F.jpgRIP

Brakes locked up on a rainy day coming home from school. The car didn't make it, lucky enough I was unhurt. I loved that car, hope to get one like it but newer when I get out of Uni.

This is the car I drive now. Purple Dodge Intrepid. AKA the boat because it's functional underwater. Just Kidding.

But Not really.

H Reg Polo 1.0 I hated it so much my mum ended up having it, it didnt like the long journys I was making and I didnt like how slow it went had it three months my mum had it for about 3 years

S Reg Citeron Saxo 1.4 got this on finance at 3 years old had done 37,000 miles, It had a few scrapes but lasted me until it had done 120,000miles. got very expensive towards the time of getting rid of it :(

05 Punto 1.2 active sport 16v I loved this car bought it Brand new but gave it up because I couldnt really afford it anymore after a year

03 Punto 1.2 Active Sport Same car slightly older wrote it off 2 months after getting it not had another since because I actually no longer need a car to get to work and my insurance premiums are sky high.

My old man uses one of these gizmo's every where he goes now last time I got in the car with him I told him to turn it off before I threw it out the window. What a annoying voice!

Indeed a wolf in sheeps clothing especially with a few tweaks under the hood! I once drove from Auchterarder to Andover to pick up a Pool supporting mate, then up to ewood (they didn't post my tickets Grrr) across to Anfield back to Andover and then back to Auchterarder. 3 points and £200.00 plus quid in fuel, great car sorely missed, died so young!! :(
