Robbo or Gomes. ? B)

Ask The Gobby Muppet :lol::lol::lol:

Drop {Robinson}, he's pants.

Anyone still want to claim he's a good keeper?

Even Brad Jones had a great game against us the other week, better than any single display Robbo's put in this season.

All the other keepers in the teams around us have outperformed Robbo this season. Gomes might have made a few hilarious errors a few months back but he's also played a few blinders.

{Robinson's} simply not good enough and I don't even think it's a confidence thing.

Spot on mate and he took stick from the spuds fans all the first half, his save shut a lot of them up well done Robbo

He got a standing ovation from the Spurs fans as he ran towards them.

I've been critical of him in the past but he made a supurb save today. No keeper would have saved the pen as it was perfectly placed.

Hopefully his confidenece is high and will play well until the end of the season.

For me Robbo is one man that no blame can be aimed at for yesterday, made a few good saves and couldn't do anything about the goals imo

I feel sorry for Robbo at the moment. He had big shoes to fill and he's just had a couple of seasons where his confidence hasn't been great. This season he has had a make shift back four and a poor midfield in front of the defence. If we were better defensively then just maybe he would prove to everyone why he should be pushing for the England goalkeepers position.

Robbo could have done better for Aggers goal.

BUT given the team let Agger walk into shooting range unchallenged, and given that robbo made several fantastic saves which kept the score respectable, I think we can let him off that. Thought he had a good game against liverpool and is one of the few who can hold their heads high after the game.

I'm at odds with the prevailing view that Robbo was 'outstanding' against Liverpool. That was the word Allardyce used to describe him.

He was at fault for Agger's goal and I almost cringed when he turned his back on the ball to get a block on I think it was Mascherano in the second half.

He isn't a particularly goalkeeper at the best of times and he seems to suffer interminably from a lack of confidence. That and things like turning your back on the ball points to fragility.

Ideally we'd get someone else, Kameni's been linked in one or two of the newspapers, but realistically it looks like we'll have to persevere with him.

He was already on the floor at that point, and when the ball bounced to Mascherano the only way he could close him down in time was by rolling his body forward. He wouldn't have moved towards the ball just before it was about to be blasted if he was 'fragile'. This was actually one of a number of goal-preventing saves and you're criticising him for it!

Agger's goal was a bit of a soft one but he made some cracking saves throughout the game that kept the scoreline from being very embarrassing.

I thought it was a good save until I saw the slo mo and saw that the big girls blouse turned his back. He got lucky.

Kameni linked with us?

QOTSA I totally agree with you!

Yeah, it was in one of the Sundays, either the News of the World or the People.

Doubtless he wouldn't mind a move to England but I reckon Sam's going to stick with Robbo and hope he comes good.

I don't understand why he'd close it down at all if he was scared, he could easily have stayed where he was.

At full time the players all trooped heads down towards the tunnel with the exception of Robinson who walked straight to the Rovers fans AND on the way called 4 or 5 of the team over to come with him. For me he gets full marks for that action.

We sat next to the stewards and ambulance staff. They were all reds and impressed with Robinson's performance.

I can't recall whether he was already on the floor when the ball came to Mascherano, but, even if he was, he should still do his utmost to spread himself and face the ball because that way he maximises his chances of making the save.

He made a conscious decision to turn his back on the ball when he could just as easily have gone face first. Granted it doesn't sound pleasant but that's what goalkeepers have to do!

In the first half too when Torres missed with his left foot, it was Robinson's spill that gave him the chance. It was a weak shot from Mascherano again I think that should have been pushed away from goal.

This all makes it seem like I've got it in for Robbo when I haven't, I just don't think he's very good.

Wow Robinson now gets slated for the way in which he makes a goal preventing save.

Sure if that was Brad it would have been brilliant improvisation. The man can do no right it seems.

Three weeks ago, I was getting concerned that Robbo was sliding downwards in performance.

But in the Liverpool and Spurs games I thought he did much better and most importantly besides some fine stops, is commanding his area and communicating with his defenders much better.

With regards to the Agger goal, I think he had every right to expect Andrews to get across and put a block on. In which case holding a central position and close enough to the line to prevent a lob (including a deflection) was the right place to be. Agger had the full goal to strike at given the defence backing off and smashed it with power and swerve. It was one of those where even though it was coming from 30 yards out, the keeper could not be blamed for it.

Incidentally, I saw Friedel looking distinctly middle-aged in the Villa v Everton match. He is still a fantastic keeper and has even improved his coming for balls into the box but his movements are looking much heavier now.

Absolutely spot on. Robinson is a bottom-half of the Premiership keeper and if we have ambitions of finishing higher next season (if we stay up  ) then we'll need someone better.

Teams are built on good keepers, Brian Clough always did that.

I'm afraid I'm having to agree with Scotty here, Robinson needs to be added to my list of players that we have and simply aren't of the required standard.

not even remotely a robbo fan..........but before we can even think of getting a better keeper in he'll have to be shipped off and given his wages that seems impossible

I think Robbo suffers simply because he is not Brad. I've seen him make some magnificent saves and i can't honestly recall him costing us many points at all.

Brads made more mistakes than Robbo this season and thats only from what I jave seen have resulted in goals, not saying Robbo is a better keeper but the fact remains Brad was in need of replacement and to get money and bring in a younger keeper wasn't all bad.

Brad's positioning for Ronaldo's goal last week was appalling.
